Mob is an awesome character, but I'd say Reigen is my favourite. Despite being a bit of a con artist he does genuinely care about Mob, and he does have charisma. Being able to walk into the villain's lair and convince most of the henchmen to just pack it in and be good to people is one heck of a talent.
He's the reason Mob didn't go on the dark side too. "Psychic powers are just another characteristic, it doesn't make you less human. You have to accept it as part of your life. Just become a good person" 👏😭
It's funny, because in the webcomic, Mob has a much sharper face. In the anime, he's quite soft and makes (unintentionally) cute expressions more often, but in the manga, it's like he almost has a glare.
I think that mob and ritsu parents did a great job raising them, because they are both teenager boys and yet they are not into that phase of rebellion, they are kind and respectifull boys who work hard to be their best selfs.
@LacticAcid Ritsu had a semi rebel phase, but he only needed the love of his brother to return to be a kind and caring boy, and he clearly do his best in everything he does.
@LacticAcid He got everything settled with how he sees his own worth and his relationship with Shigeo in S1, he had his rough days but he was able to come back as a better person.
I've been around the block a few times when it comes to anime. I've seen my fair share of characters specifically designed to look cute. But Shigeo Kageyama is easily the single most _adorable_ character I have ever seen.
I think framing it as "mob trying to be special in a different way" is a liiittle off the mark I'd say something closer to the Point would be that _nobody_ is inherently special or better than anyone else, what matters isn't how strong you are it's what you choose to do, or more specifically choosing to be a good person mob working to get stronger isn't just supposed to be him trying to be special, it's about trying to improve himself to be a better person !
Yeah I agree, Mob is not trying to become "special", since he considers himself just as special as anyone else. Mob simply wants to improve in the areas he's bad at. Believing that some people are more special than others has a negative side, such as when Mob's brother is jealous of Mob's "special" power. He did not acknowledge his own strengths or his brother's weaknesses and just saw Mob as completely superior to him.
Awesome but i think you could’ve said something about how even his brother ritsu has the look of anime protagonist and his struggle about his not problems make him feel less special. Actually now that I think about it you could probably do a whole video just about them throughout the first season.
One of my favorite things about Mob's visual design is that you could very easily lose him in crowd shots if you aren't paying attention. He's literally nicknamed after the term "mob character", basically a background character, and was designed to look unremarkable
Mob is very relatable and him having a well written character arc is one of the reasons why MP100 appeals to me far more than OPM ever did. He's the overpowered protagonist done right tbh.
I love both for different reasons. Mob is trying to grow through interacting with the people of the world. He's taken Reigen's teachings to heart and is absolutely incredible seeing him grow in subtle ways. It's not the "I changed my haircut therefore I've been developed" type. No, I think op is right. Mob does struggle with accepting himself. It's made clear as early as in ep 3 that he views himself as terrible. Accepting his emotions and learning to live with how different he is than everyone else is also a part of his story, not just self improvement. Because, in the end, Mob decides to improve himself so that he could be proud of himself instead of getting validation from others. Yes, he wants other's acceptance, but he's already got a good family and friends who love him. All he needs is to start feeling deserving of that love.
