Sam fitted me for a PXG 2 iron, carry it with a 5 wood. 2 iron for low flight in the wind, summer and 5 wood for much higher flight. Distance is similar but very different flights.
Have a wilson staff utility 15 degree, great club so no driver. Gave it one day to a great iron,he teed it off and it nearly went 300 yards! It was 40c and dry so the carry was huge. Love the club.
@@garymartingolf thanks for your query, yes i still use it in winter even in frosty weather ,find it workable, low in wind and suppose im used to it. Suits my swing which is fast. Sold my driver and hybrides and use 2 iron onwards besides the 15 degree. Its flight can be high but ball position determines the shot. Sometimes use it under trees for flat shots towards the green. Enjoy your golf.
Enjoyed this vlog. Content you cover with Sam is very interesting. Sam mentioned he carries a mini driver. Could you do a vlog on this club explaining how and when it’s best used. Cheers
I would like to see the difference when hitting off the deck or the first cut of rough. Just watched you on James Robinson, it looks like money well spent on your driver fitting. He owes you a pint!
Question for Sam please. I have Ping G425 Max 10.5 driver & Ping G425 5 wood set to 16.5 deg. Regular stock shafts & driver swing average around 92mph, neutral attack angle. Happy with distance & get plenty of launch but I’d like something to play off tee in high winds and hard / dry conditions. Don’t think a 1 iron is for me but what do you think would be a good option? Thanks
Interesting video. I'm a high handicap and I just did a fairway wood/hybrid fitting. I was fitted into an 18 degree 3 hybrid, TSr2. It was landing where my 5 iron was ending, so it worked. I was then fitted into an 18 degree 5W. I can hit a 5W much more consistently than a 3W. The 5W was flying to where my 3 hybrid was ending basically. So they are gapped pretty well. Mentally I'm having a hard time getting over two 18 degree clubs even if one is 20 yards further.
I know what you mean, I’d be the same with 2 clubs the same loft, it would play havoc with my mind lol I’d seriously probably try have it filled in or covered in some way. OCD 😅
For a semi beginner. I’m not sure I’d recommend either 😄 My biggest regret as a semi beginner was not playing a 7 wood because I wanted to look good with a 3 wood. My mate had a G2 7 wood at the time I ripped, whilst I had a Taylormade V steel 3 wood I topped 99% of the time. Keep some loft on your woods and hybrids.
@garymartingolf thank you i currently use my 5 wood alot but was thinking I need something with less loft to bridge the gap between my driver and 5 wood. Hybrids seem easier to hit 😕
I love driving irons ( I have seriously like 5 different ones I have been fitted for). My current gamer is the Ping iCrossoveer 2 iron (set down 1 degree to 17 since its adjustable) but I do have a Titleist u505 1 iron (2023 model, 16 degrees) and that thing is incredible on windy days/tight courses. The Ping is great, very easy to hit but that 1 iron is such a nasty club that I love swapping between the two of them.
Really interesting video. No problem with a 1/2 iron in the bag. Mor3 people should at least have a try. Random side note the cables on the wall around the desk are driving crazy. All pinned in neat but all on the piss and not straight 😭
You didn’t try your 3 iron Gary. I imagine it would have gotten a bit less distance? I can’t get my 2 and 1 iron to go any farther than my 3 iron. I don’t know what it is.
It wasn’t it my bad 😞 I’d switched it out for the hybrid. A-bit extra carry, as our ground conditions are waterlogged atm. I did want to do that test 😐
@@garymartingolf tough call. It has to be the ultimate utility wood. From the tee, driver, 3wood, driving iron. From the deck, 3 wood, hybrid, and iron.

Thanks Gaz just booked for fitting in January , fingers crossed it works for me as well
I’m so sure he’ll get you sorted!
love the content mate your doing a great job 🤟🏻
Thanks buddy, appreciated. Really enjoying making the videos! Can’t wait for the summer to take it back outside 😅⛄️
Loving these videos with Sam.... its the UK version of TXG Club Champion. Keep up the good work 👏
Haha, thanks 🤟🏼
Very enjoyable video mate and if I was you I would definitely be getting a 1 iron especially for the summer
Loving your content Gaz. You always manage to find something a bit different.
Haha, thanks 😊 Got abit of fake stuff coming in from China, be good to see how good or crap it is 🤣

Yeah, I’m really dying to try that club. Do you think it’s worth comparing it against a driver or 3 wood ?
@@garymartingolf
I am interested in comparing it against a 3 wood. Looking forward to next vlog
Cheers
That 1 iron in the summer/windy conditions will be 🔥
Forgot you didn’t go down for this one 😂🤣

Well done gaz 😊
Thanks
You'll be pushing to have rules changed so that you can carry 36 clubs ha Gary 😅....... must admit though that 1 iron looked a corker!!!🎊🌟🤩🥳
Try the titleist u505 1 iron it’s a perfect blend between hybrid and iron
I would too. It looks a great head 👌🏼

A lot of the 15 deg 1 irons on eBay look like something that was sold on TV 10 years ago at 3am in the morning… 😂
Great content again Gaz 👊🏾
Ahaha! They know when to get you🤣😂 remember the plus 10 driver! 😅

@@garymartingolf I think I'm going to try a shorter shaft in the 3W head and see if I can hit it a little better than the 5W.
Would you recommend a 2h over a 3 wood for a semi beginner

@@garymartingolf thats a tough choice but I would end up with the Ping just because I can hit it easier off the deck vs the u505
Oh my word...that driving iron goes further than my driver 😂
I think I need to get some weight off and speed on 😂😂😂
I couldn’t believe it to be honest. I thought 255 tops. 268!
@@garymartingolf it smashed it out there Gaz...dispersion was pretty good to 👍

I took my 3-hybrid out and replaced it with a 3-iron
I do like the added feel of control you get with an iron

Burner mini.
They’ll be something coming which includes that weapon! What do you think it should be compared with ?
@@garymartingolf tough call. It has to be the ultimate utility wood. From the tee, driver, 3wood, driving iron. From the deck, 3 wood, hybrid, and iron.
Personally I'll take a hybrid over a driving iron every time. The versatility is what wins it for me.
I’m tending to go that way myself now. I must be getting older 🤣😂
@garymartingolf Hey I'm 45 and I still get 110-113 driver clubhead speed, so there's hope for anyone lol
My clubhead speed is 89mph with driver so a driver iron may not be suitable for me
I’m not sure about that, I will ask Sam. I think with the right launching shaft and swing weight, it maybe still possible to get enough launch.
When you guys refer to a free wood and a free iron is that clubs that you don't pay for ?
Ahahaha I wish 🤣
no one struggling with fairway woods are hitting a 1 iron
