I recently received a lovely new slide from Thalia Capos and was about to look for a good introduction to slide guitar. Out of the blue, I get just the exact email I needed. Well payed, sir and thank you for such an easy to follow and informative lesson 😊
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy the slide, Ian. I haven't seen that one from Thalia yet but I've used their capos in the past, quality stuff. Good luck with it! John
Hi John, i never comment on RUclips-Videos but i have to now. Thank you so much for all your high-quality videos that helped me improve my playing. Especially the tutorials for the likes of Doc Watson or John Fahey are amazing. Your teachingstyle, your positivity and your clarity are the reason i keep coming back to your videos. Is there any way of sending you a little tip for your work? All the best from Germany!
Hey Brad, I do. There are many on my channel and I teach more in-depth slide skills and tutorials with tabs in my membership at Blues Guitar Institute.
Great beginner's lesson on an amazing sounding guitar. Just posted a song "Rosetta West - Elmore's Blues," which incorporates a lot from your lesson. I hope you like it. All the best.
I’m loving your Delta Blues videos, I have a question about your Honeydipper guitar. I try using my acoustics but they just don’t feel set up properly for slide, is the Honey dipper guitar action and general design made specifically for slide? And If I get one will it have to be set up. Well thank you and look forward to more from you.
Hey Timothy, I personally play a mix of fretted notes and slide on the honey dipper so I don't like it "set up for slide". I setup my resonators the same as a regular acoustic. The Honey Dipper came with a middle of the road setup though. The trick to playing slide with "normal" action is in your slide technique. I talked about this at length in my recent video on slide in standard tuning. You may want to check that out.

Somebody needs to get this man an award. May be a Shawn Michaels Bantomweight Belt or something. Thanks for all that you have done in music teaching
Thanks! Been going down a Bret hart/HBK video rabbit hole lately so I very much appreciate your comment :) Cheers!

John is the man...the best on you tube.
Great to the point video. Do you offer slide tutorial lessons , paid or not.

Please, let me know which gauge strings do you use? General they are too hard and stuff for fingerstyle. Light possible or Custom light possible?

Thank you very much for helping. I will watch your standard tuning slide. It’s definitely a tough style to learn, but it’s fun 😎
Cool lesson. Thanks! What resonator is that?
That is a Gretsch Honey Dipper. Very popular choice for a resonator guitar at it's price point.
Yep, it's the Honey Dipper thanks Eli! I really enjoy it, great value and I love the sound.
Fantastic, it looks like I've lost the next 5 hours of my day now ;) many thanks for the great lesson and idea.
ha! Well, hope it's a fun 5 hours then, Richard. :)
I write my own like they used to no covers
