How To: Use the Fishpond Net Release

- Kelly shows us how to use the Fishpond Net Release. This is THE best net release on the market and the best way to carry a net for anyone using a vest or jacket that has a D-ring by the neck.
Check it out on our website:
I’ll add that one can refine the position of the handle by moving the net attach loop right or left on the net hoop. Located in the center, the net will hang vertical with the handle in the center of the back as is shown. Moving the attach point can move the handle right or left. I’m tall with a somewhat long torso. Moving the vest back attach point down a few inches below the normal location with the hoop attach off center puts the handle in an easier to reach position. Just have to play with it and experiment.
Kelly, I’m sure you’ve had other things going (a well deserved vacation, maybe) but I’ve sure been looking forward to your return.
Thanks for the videos, some of the best. Love the Border Collie, by the way. They’re little sweeties and almost too intelligent for a dog.
Myrl, that is a great point and something I have never tried, I will now. Thanks for watching and for the tip. Kelly
It’s the best time of the year! Kelly’s return to RUclips!
Amen brother
Wow I've had one of these sitting in a box cause I never felt it did what I wanted - come to find out I was using it wrong. Thanks for this!
My man...I just watched half a dozen videos of people saying they didn't like to attach it to the net part....and they were all doing it wrong... Hahaha thank you!
Perfect timing for me and anyone else needing to get this "correct"! Thanks Kelly and all involved in getting this out here! Appreciate ya!
So many products in flyfishing where the manufacturer does a horrible job of showing how to use items and features. THANKS for this !!
Thanks Kelly! I almost had it right, had the rubber attached to the net by the handle, very challenging to get magnets to find each other. Now we know. (and knowing is half the battle, GI Kelly Joe, an American hero)
I agree with Kelly. I have this net release on all the vests I own. I hook them up a little differently than Kelly did.
That Fishpond Net Release has been sitting in the bottom of a drawer for years because Fishpond didn't include directions for it's use and I couldn't figure out the best way to make it work. Now I can dig it out of the drawer and put it to use.
I’ve owned that Confluence Net Minder for 5 years and couldn’t figure it out! Now…I’m using it!
Thank you for explaining this! I've never been happy with a net release and thought they were gimmicky. Come to find out I've been doing it wrong. Not surprised.
No wonder why I have struggled with carrying my net, I have been doing it wrong - excellent video.
Thanks for the video. Great information and much better explanation of how it works. However...agree with one of the previous comments that the magnet is too strong, in addition to being hard to find magnet to reattach.
Great now everyone knows about these and how they work , this will slow down my net collecting . I have a very nice collection of nets I’ve found over the years on the rivers but I’m particularly proud of all the Borden’s and Fish Pond nets I have . Oh well hopefully it’s just a fad . I was kind of hoping that this was going to be at least 30 minutes but no I guess I will have to wait for some winter tying videos. Thanks for the video
Wholesome content right here.
THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED!!!!!!!
I've tried it both ways and actually like it with the handle facing up. Maybe I'm a weirdo though. Nice video man
Same, I don't like the weight of the magnet on the net end, and I also don't like the wet net up against the top of my vest. Tried it both ways, definitely prefer it handle up.
Yeah I agree with you guys. handle up and it works great for me and is more comfortable for me. Plus you can see the tether getting tangled in the net as he’s doing it.
I don't understand what the issue is with hanging it behind you with the handle up or why that's "ridiculous". Works perfectly fine for me.
I was wondering when Kelly was going to start making videos again. I had forgotten to turn on notifications. Silly me. Keep the good stuff coming Kelly.
Hey Kelly, have I been missing you or what! So good seeing ya again and thanks👍
I admit, I’m one of those people who was using the net release wrong. Cool video. Thx
Great product. I am looking for a net holding system. Your website is showing a photo the opposite of your vid on how to hang the net! LOL
Welcome back
Been using this for several years (correctly). The magnet is way strong, actually too strong I think. Can be quite hard to break it free from back of vest/jacket. I actually have 2-3 layers of electrical tape over one side of magnet to lower it strength.
This thing is great except that the split rings seem to always deform. I’ve replaced the split rings with paracord. Works great.
He's back. 😀
Welcome back! Hope we can count on more videos soon. Would love to see the kill whitey get tied!
Awesome to see a new upload Kelly!!! Lets see a funky new streamer pattern on the vice! Something you might even be unfamiliar tying, we all love the sense of humor you have when figuring things out "on the fly" :)
Classic Kelly. Too good to change his ways to a rubber net bag. Oh boy, always right I’m wrong.
Thanks, it was confusing, but a great piece of equipment!
Welcome back Kelly.
I attach mine to the handle, seems to work just fine. Using that old net bag on trout is brutal. Put a better bag on that nice frame.
Mega Thx Kelly ! I always learn something from your videos
Thank you so much!! Haha
Thank you! Great video!
I ended up just using a retractor instead. Pulling the magnets apart felt like I was about to tear the D ring off my pack
I find the magnet on the confluence just too strong, it's near impossible to pull and have it release without it actually almost ripping off my d-ring/tag. I've rigged it as a side mount with my FP Canyon creek. YMMV
Thank you.
Welcome back!
Kelly, at 3:13 when you have your vest on the table, I see what looks like a light for night fishing in one of your vest pockets. Do you know where I can get one? I lost mine. Thank you for another great video.
Looks like it was the Original Flex-Lite made in Kalamazoo MI. Doesn't look like they're still being produced. Found a few OG ones on ebay, a more modern version may work better.
haha done that wrong for many year omg feel so stupid 😅 thx Kelly
Anybody else deformed the split ring pulling the magnets apart?
The magnets are so strong that the split ring split and both of the magnets were still together. Now I need a split ring strong enough to handle 11 lbs of magnet pull force.
Oddly enough the clasp provided by fish pond doesn't fit on the end of a fish pond net
can you use a CLOSE UP SHOT on the explanations?? get close with that camera let us SEE!!
“This net is a work of art, I wouldn’t wrap anything but rubber on it.”
Bangs net on table. Lol.
I’ve never liked that setup. Fish goes in the net and rubs fish slime off .... then transfers the slime and the river water to your vest or shirt. But “dangle by the handle” and the wet slime is on the back of the waders, below a short vest. Also due to shoulder damage it’s much easier to reach the handle behind my head vs trying to get it in my mid back. I tend to use my smallest net when wading. If I’m in the Fishcat 9, I have a good size Nomad on deck.
So this is just straight up wrong. They literally have a video on the product page on the fishpond website showing you how to use it, and this is not it. You're supposed to do it the way he says is "ridiculous", not have the leash stretched across the length of the net, which is actually ridiculous. No idea where this guy got the idea that this is how it's supposed to be used but this is not correct at all.
Never could make magnet net holders work. Holsters do.
I was today years old when I learned I was attaching the wrong part of the net lol
Seriously! people cant figure this out?
Nets suck. Until you need one, lol
SORRY, DON'T LIKE IT - EVERYTIME YOU NET A FISH, YOU'RE VEST GETS WET.I'LL PASS.
Great!! I’ve been doing it right the last few years..after doing it wrong, and fighting a swinging net with a handle that was hard to reach for a while. 🫤😂 Thanks for all you help us with Kelly and Slide Inn crew. 👍👍👌🎣✌️
