I'm surprised that Pencak Silat isn't included since I've seen many Muay Thai guys practice silat

"Transitions to Muay Thai the Best? " Sticking to " Transition", I'd rate boxing the sole Super class most likely to help the transition. In striking art, most important are the distance and fight rhythm. Training method is very similar with pad work as core, necessitating one on one. Bad habits are very difficult to undone. Both boxing and muaythai stress on bio-mechanical delivery of weapon.
With regard to complimenting muaythai, the art should be more for ground fighting. The art must evolve perpetually through professional level competition. BJJ reign supreme. Good gyms are easily accessible.

Perfect timing, I started muay thai a month ago with a 10 years shotokan background. I start out much more advantaged than someone who starts from zero, but especially in sparring I have habits that are very difficult to eradicate for example the guard position which in karate is more secluded but in Thai is more squared. Even strikes power is different because in karate the goal is to score points so you don't train knockout power.

Same man, 4 years in shotokan in middle school through highschool, now going to a boxing/muay thai gym in my working years. Tricky part for me is the headshot defense and elbows. Took awhile but my style is now muay mat because I'm a short guy and I love punches since my karate days.

I have a third degree black belt in TKD and got pretty far in the Junior Olympic circuit and when I picked up Muay Thai, everything lower body felt right at home
I think having any lengthy period in striking means that picking up muay thai will be a lot easier
