    In this video we go over why you don’t need to do the fafsa form or any college financial aid forms when the forms first become available. While the fafsa form becomes available starting October 1st the truth is you had a lot of time to get the forms in you don’t have to get them in the first few days.
    "The FAFSA becomes available on December 31, and some schools award financial aid on a first-come, first-served basis. That's why it's so important for families to fill out the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available - because it increases the likelihood a family will receive an aid amount they are comfortable with.
    The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a form completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. The FAFSA is different than CSS Profile, which is also required by some colleges.
    Student financial aid in the United States is funding that is available exclusively to students attending a post-secondary educational institution in the United States. This funding is used to assist in covering the many costs incurred in the pursuit of post-secondary education.

    Whew! Thanks for calming me down about FAFSA! I had to do it decades ago, when it was all on tons of paper, and I believed it was first come, first served. Just this one video gave me more info than the school guidance counselor did! Thanks so much!

    Regarding the new version of the FAFSA. When parents are divorced it asks that they use the income of whoever provides more financial support. In the case of 50/50 placement and custody, what are the metrics to use to determine that since it may not be the parent who makes the most money.

    Ed, Thanks for the great information. The FAFSA 2024-2025 uses tax year 2022 income. My wife and I were married that year (2022) and filed a joint return for 2022 but are now divorced (and will each file as head of household in 2023 as we have 2 kids). Schools and the FAFSA look at the 2022 return and see that we did a joint return but later in the form we put we're divorced. What do you suggest for putting for (and how to notify the school) "Parent Tax Filing Status" for 2022? We did file joint return (2022) but are now divorced? Also, do we just put down the 2022 income for the primary parent (happens to be the lower income of the 2) to possibly get some financial aide and estimate the taxes that were paid as if that parent were single for 2022?

    I am not finding much info online on how to come up with the net worth of a business for the FAFSA. We have a restaurant and I am finding it tricky because we rent the space. Do I need to use the retained earnings listed on the Form-1120S as its net worth? That amount would be higher than my guess on what I would get if I were to sell it, since we don't own property. Would love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi Ed, we filled out the CSS in November and since then overall financials have changed a little - do we fill out the FAFSA with the financials on the day we are filling it out? Is a small discrepancy in checking/savings account and investments a problem and need to be reported? Thanks!

    • @ruki247
      @ruki247 6 месяцев назад +1

      Reach out to the schools that you added in your CSS profile and share what’s changed. Please note that they might not worry about it until they’ve assigned funding using your previous css info. At which time, they’ll ask you to submit an appeal form attaching documents showing what’s changed. You could also simply reach out to the school you’ve been accepted to and want to attend and ask them their procedure on how they’d want an amendment or appeal handled and what they will need. This way, you’re submitting what’s actually needed. Financial aid offices will help you if you reach out to them. They’re not the devil they’re perceived to be😂 they help when asked.
