For any mums breastfeeding out there, please be reassured that your period coming back, fussy behaviour, long feeds and sucking hard is not an indication of low supply, but completely normal behaviour for a 6 week old baby. Saying that however it is absolutely your choice whether you with to carry on at that point (or any point) and 6 weeks is Still an amazing amount of time to BF, as is 6 hour or 6 months :) just please don't worry about low supply because of these things xx

    • @nayanafairgrieve2553
      @nayanafairgrieve2553 Год назад +24

Totally agreed!! I went through all of that. It’s definitely not an indication of low supply. Just kept going and it got so much better. We are 19 months still breastfeeding. I think us mums need more help and support with breastfeeding, it’s actually more rare for a low supply to happen apparently? It just seems like we have low supply, especially if you try pump and barley get anything. That’s what happened to me but my boobs never reacted the same with the pump as my baby that’s why I wasn’t able to pump a lot I think! Truly hope these comments help other BF mums to push through if they feel like they want to. It is stressful thinking you have low supply but most of the time we don’t ❤️ the newborn stage is hard for BF but it gets so much easier x

Thank god someone said it! Breastfeeding can be such a hard journey - I'm so envious of everyone who finds it easy as I haven't! But I'm persevering. Insinuating that you have to stop breastfeeding because you've started menstruating can be really damaging to someone who might not have support or information.

For all the new breastfeeding mums out there worrying about your supply or the length of your feeds. At 6 weeks old 2 hours is normal. It's called cluster feeding. And you can absolutely get your periods back when breastfeeding and this is not an indication of low supply. I got my period back at 6 weeks post partum and I'm still breastfeeding 8 months on. Molly I'm proud you breastfed for 6 weeks but please be careful of spreading misinformation! Also 6 months is the norm and what is adviced by medical professionals for starting to drop night feeds for formula fed babies, not 10 weeks. So all you mummas out there who's babies are still waking for feeds... It's normal ❤

    • @Ilovetaylorswift744
      @Ilovetaylorswift744 Год назад +33

Yes cluster feeding is totally normal, the baby is going through big growth spurts and developmental milestones at that age. Go with your baby, the more you feed them the more milk you'll produce. It does get easier, sleep when baby sleeps😊

Omg molly if she’s waking up wanting a feed, please give it to her, she could be going through a growth spurt and your denying her food to help her with that 🙈 if a baby wakes crying, it’s because she’s either hungry, has wind, needs a nappy changing or she’s teething (a bit early for that though) I feel like your really need speak to a health visitor for advice 😬

It’s biologically normal for babies to continue to wake through the night.
You shouldn’t drop their night feeds. 10 weeks is too little to stop night feeds.
They are growing.. they need food!
It’s actually recommended to slowly drop their night feeds at 6 months.. but even then they still wake up hungry.

Hey Molly, just some advice about the suit in the car seat. The risk isn't as much Bambi overheating, the reason babies shouldn't wear coats or car suits in a car seat is because the seatbelts are going to be sat on top of a layer of padding, rather than against the babies body, causing the harness to fit incorrectly, so if there was a collision or crash, bambi wouldn't be safe. A collision can happen 2 minutes away from home, and even if you're a safe driver. An unsafe driver could crash into you. Please research why coats/snow suits shouldn't be used in car seats for Bambi xx

Because we live in a time now where more mums than ever are working, things like sleep training and schedules for newborns is being normalised when its infact so damaging to babies and will affect their development in many ways as they grow. Before women have children, they need to be very aware that they have to adapt their lives around the baby, not the other way around.

If you a new mum watching this and you baby is feeding for two hours, it’s not because there is no milk there. It’s completely normal they are cluster feeding to up your supply and breastfeeding is so much more than just getting milk and just because you have your period doesn’t meant to say you have a low supply. Also at 3 not even 3 months old a baby shouldn’t have night feeds dropped if they are waking. I hate to be negative but it can be detrimental to a breastfeeding journey to hear information like this.

  • @gracebailey4174

For a 10 week old baby they should be feed a few times in the night! It's helps they development! She shouldn't be going that long without a feed. 'From a developmental perspective, babies are able to sleep through the night - defined as a six- to eight-hour stretch - without eating when they're between 4 and 6 months old. In this age range, most babies reach the 12- to 13-pound mark, the weight where they no longer metabolically need nighttime feedings.' Xx

I just want to put it out there for anyone watching this. Two hours latching is normal. It’s cluster feeding. It doesn’t mean you don’t have enough milk. It also doesn’t mean your supply is going and your baby doesn’t get enough milk. It’s so normal. Only 5-10% of women who actually breastfeed have a reduced supply.
Chances are baby is getting plenty, but they are just going through a developmental phase key to their growth. Anyone reading this if you aren’t sure - wonder weeks app is amazing at explaining the different changes they are going through and reiterates how they’ll react when going through them.

☆ Cluster feeds and night feeds should be baby led on demand. Till they start newborn/infant solids so 4mths to 6mos depending on Pediatrician Doctor, baby, and parents.

Also the thick suit in car seat is not so much for overheating as it is for safety in the straps. The thicker outfit means straps are not as snug to her. If she wore that to bed at night then yes overheating could be an issue depending on weather.

Getting a period is not an indication of low breastmilk supply. Everybodys hormones are different so everyone gets monthly cycle back at diff times. How much she was getting while nursing is usually different to how much comes out whilst pumping. That doesnt mean she was not getting enough milk. That means that is how long feeds take her.

My 2nd baby was same always attached to me. My sanity went bezerk but it was what baby needed for emotional affectionate bonding. My firstborn wasnt much easier. They are 7 and 3. Night wakes dont always get much better depending on ec kids personalities. What we want as parents goes out the window unfortunetly and we tend to our children how they Each Individually Require it ALL. 🥰😇😍🤩

You look fantastic and Bambi is adorable!! I just wanted to say for other mums maybe on here who have listened to your story re breastfeeding that it is common for babies to feed up to an hour or more at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. They are cluster feeding to build up your supply as they transition through a growth spurt. There is the same amount of milk but they will cluster for days/weeks to get your milk supply right. Just an FYI for those who may think they have no supply and might give up without wanting to. You smashed it by doing it for 6 full weeks, it's so hard but creates such a lovely bond. ❤❤

congratulations molly! ur daughter is adorable 💞 i had my daughter at 20 and she’s 8 months now. i never really like people telling me what to do with my baby but i do want to quickly say what made things a lot easier for me and what i wish i knew sooner.
if baby is still waking up at night feed her, at 10 weeks they’re only drinking few ounces (just assuming for you) so they most likely will get hungry again soon. if baby is getting all the milk she wants during the day it could lead to her being satisfied throughout the night
for me having baby sitting up right for her to wind worked wonders for me. best position for winding. gripe water helps with the discomfort from gas
last thing, to get baby to sleep through the night have the same night time routine every night ( i used to hate being told this because newborns do what they want, how can you put a routine in place when they wake up when they want 😭) but keep bedtime roughly around the same time every night, bedtime is always in a dark room with a dimmed lamp if you want so you can see, white noise helps babies sleep and before you know it they’ll get used to it all and start to understand that this is the time to sleep. my daughter sleeps amazingly after having a bath. bath time, fresh nappy/clothes, warm bottle dark/ dimmed room… perfect 💞 also in the mornings draw the curtains, let light in so it can be nice and bright, then bedtime close up for a darker room. babies don’t have the same circadian rhythm as us when they’re born but being in brightness during the day and darkness at night helps regulate that for them. keep daytime naps in a bright room and only make the room dark for bedtime. this will help them understand the difference in daytime and bedtime.
i hope this helps xx i’m never judging i want motherhood to easily on all of us so i love to share what’s helped me especially after having a baby so young. love you molly keep doing u, you’re honestly amazing and so inspiring xx

These are great tips! My baby is 10 months and these are all things I wish I'd known sooner!
Another little thing I found worked great before bath time was taking 5 to 10 minutes walk outside in a baby sling, the fresh air just knocked mine right out for bed 😝
Night feeds are so hard especially when baby doesn't fit the norm.. my little guy woke up every 2 hours until he was nearly 8 months! I was told once he started solids around 6 months he would sleep better but mine also teethed quiet early, first tooth at 3.5 months and had 6 teeth by 7 months (now had 8 at 10 months🙈)! Then one day randomly he slept through the night at 8 months, when I woke up naturally at 5 am and realised he hadn't woke since midnight I never jumped out of that bed so fast to go check on him 😂

If you’ve decided that you want to use a bottle that’s completely fine but you need to make sure you’re feeding her properly. Babies at 10 weeks shouldn’t be going through the night without a feed, and if a baby is waking for a feed you shouldn’t deprive them of that at such a young age.
Also, the 2 hour feeds would be cluster feeding. Which is SO normal and not a sign of low supply. Not all babies do it but it is so common and a way of upping supply and/or because they’re having a growth spurt.

Night feeds are needed if baby wakes for one - there is also a huge benefit from frequent night waking - a reduction in the risk of SID’s. Babies have sleep cycles of around 45 minutes, they are not biologically designed to link sleep cycles and frequent waking can stop them becoming in distress and being unable to rouse. When breastfeeding a mums sleep cycle starts to sync with her babies to alert Mum if there are any issues with baby too. Cool right?
If your baby naturally sleeps longer that is okay too, but only if its natural and not induced by sleep training or refusing night feeds.
Molly Mae reported feeling like she didn’t have enough milk in the night - when Bambi is more likely to be cluster feeding - we know this is a common misconception.
Bambi was EBF for 6 weeks and then Molly Mae felt her supply was getting too low. There is a huge growth spurt around this age which causes an increase in cluster feeding activity.
As breastfeeding professionals, we are often faced with Mums who feel they must not have enough milk when babies are cluster feeding and this common misconception is why a lot of mums stop breastfeeding before they wanted to so it’s important we address these misconceptions.
Molly Mae also stated babies should not be needing a feed between 11pm and 7am - were not sure where she has gotten this information from as its highly inaccurate. This is again a common issue with how popular the sleep training industry has become and it’s not fair to new mums, it gives them unrealistic ideals of baby feeding and baby sleep. Mums are being let down by being fed inaccurate information.
Molly Mae also talks about her period returning as a signal she doesn’t have enough milk and again this is completely inaccurate.
Periods can come back at any time, some women get their periods back 8 weeks postpartum, some 6 months, some 12 months and some not until they’ve stopped breastfeeding.
As trained professionals we wouldn’t advise actively night weaning until bare minimum 12 months but ideally 18 months plus. Milk is a child’s main source of nutrition until 12 months and then at 18 months it still makes up around 1/3 of a child’s nutritional needs. There is evidence showing breast milk tailors to a child’s needs until minimum 4 (but most likely for as long as a child feeds).
Cutting out night feeds prematurely can negatively affect supply, going for long periods of time in-between emptying the breast signals you don’t need as much milk and your supply drops. Frequent emptying of the breast promotes more milk.
Night waking is completely normal, and we know breastfeeding doesn’t only help with hunger but also helps with comfort, pain relief and much more, so not feeding may not necessarily change how often baby wakes either.
Molly Mae also talks about how Bambi would fall asleep attached to the breast and stay there which her friends told her wasn’t normal - but it is very normal!! Babies love to be close to their mums, their smell, heartbeat, sound etc is all babies has known for the last 9 months and its very common for babies in the 4thtrimester to want to be close and latched on to mum, they have a strong suckling reflex too this all aids a good supply and is all biologically normal and natural.
It seems Molly Mae is yet another victim to unrealistic sleep and feeding goals fed in to by the sleep training community and formula industry, as a population we have been pushed so far away from biological norms and it’s not okay! Molly Mae has been given inaccurate, misleading, and false information that has been detrimental to her breastfeeding journey, and she deserves better. As she’s spoken openly about her struggles on a public platform those myths are also now going viral which people are blaming her for, but she can’t know what she doesn’t know. She’s a new mum on her first ever breastfeeding journey and has been severely let down!
At BFLS we strive to support all parents on their feeding journey, provide up to date, evidence based and accurate information to allow people an informed choice around feeding their babies. This post isn’t to shame or generate hate towards Molly Mae, but to address the inaccurate information she has been given.

hi molly, just to let you know, overheating isnt the only reason you shouldnt put a baby in a all in one or a coat. If you got in a car accident your baby would unfortunately come out of the seat, due to the straps not being tight to her body, it creates a gap which in impact would not protect her. It doesnt matter the distance of your journey, please always put her coat on when you have got out of the car.
Also, in regards to breastfeeding, baby constantly wanting to feed is called cluster feeding, it is perfectly normal, all breastfed babies do it. I know you thought your supply was low, but it is possible to create a larger supply, if you would still like to carry on your breastfeeding journey reach out to a specialist and ask for help, it doesnt matter that you haven’t fed in the last few weeks - you should still get your supply back. hope this helps x

This is so hard to listen to, because of the misinformation in this video which is being spread to millions. I don’t blame Molly for a moment, because she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know, but a few facts for anyone who wants to breastfeed:
    • Sometimes a feed will last 5 minutes, other times (when your baby is trying to increase your milk supply), it will last for hours. This is normal & essential for increasing your supply. It’s like your baby sending a signal to your brain which says, “More milk please!” Your milk production will respond within a few days. I didn’t know this either as a new mama, because lactation education is so poor.
    • Some mamas, me included - do get their period back within weeks & it has nothing to do with your milk. It is not a sign that you are not producing enough. It could be a symptom of not feeding on demand 24/7 of you have put your baby into a routine at such an early age. Responsive, on demand feeding is recommended for the first 6 months of a babies life. If you are away from babe for more than a few hours in the early months, you are more likely to see your period return quickly.
    • It really is risky to leave a 10 month old baby without a feed for 8 hours at a time. Please, please speak to a medical professional about these choices 🙏🏽

I’m a trained breastfeeding support peer. The most important feeds are between midnight and 5am because this is when your prolactin levels are at their highest. Prolactin is the milk making chef and our babies know this, so it’s natural for them to feed at night.
Nope, breastfeeding does not deny a period returning, especially when you don’t breastfeed for hours at night. Gosh this girl has lots of followers to be giving this incorrect medical advice.
If you’re in the first 4-6 weeks, then baby needs to be producing 2x£1 coin sized poos per day and six heavy wet nappies. If you’re in doubt as to what’s going in, watch what is coming out.
Feeding for hours is called cluster feeding and it’s normal - unless it’s not normal. So if feeding is pain free and there’s lots of nappy output then yep, normal. Very tiring but happens during growth spurts and when they’re adjusting to the fourth trimester. Optimising latch and adding in breast compressions can support with how long feeds take.
Please follow IBCLCs for breastfeeding information. Not influencers who don’t have qualifications on the subject.
If you’re denying milk overnight, I’d suspect the baby will make up for it at some point so two hour feeds seem reasonable from the babies POV.
Just watched further on. 🤦🏻‍♀️ we don’t put puffy coats in car seats because they fly out their seats in a crash. Not because of overheating - although that is another good reason.

I love seeing your videos/posts but I must say I’m actually nervous knowing that you’re only feeding your baby to suit your night time routine at this early stage. It’s critical you feed through the night regardless of how much sleep you’re getting or not getting. The baby’s development is paramount. I hope you get to speak with a professional about this and they direct you properly. Much love ❤

Molly you look like you’ve taken so well to motherhood but please don’t deprive Bambi of those night time feeds, she needs them! 10 weeks is far to early to be dropping those, whoever has given you this information you really need to go back to them and confirm because this is not correct medical information and could really hinder Bambi’s key growth. She’s still so little and needs those nutrients form her milk. If she’s waking and you’re having to settle her, she will be waking for a feed not just a cuddle 😭💔

Encouraging longer stretches of sleep at this age, especially as a formula fed baby, increases SIDS risk. Night waking and night feeds are developmentally normal for 6-12 months, to ‘train’ her is completely wrong.

Before you know it she’ll be naturally sleeping through and you’ll miss those night time cuddles. You could look into “dream feeding” and wake windows/sleep routine for each baby stage, that really worked for me. Just know you’re doing great and the full night sleeps are on their way

Your baby is only 10 weeks and should obviously be fed if she wakes up at night crying. You are not supposed to «teach» such little baby to sleep through the night without milk, babies are supposed to be fed on demand, including at night time.
My daughter is 9 months and usually sleeps through the night, but if she wakes up at night crying I always feed her. She ultimately settles and goes right back to sleep; meaning she needed it. Please feed your litte baby at night, she is still so little and needs it.
Not being mean, just wanted to let you know ❤

I understand, but 11 PM to 7 AM is too long for a 2 month old baby to not feed. At that age, she can’t possibly not be hungry if she keeps waking up at night. Between 11 and 7 she should at least have one feed. You said yourself that she wakes up expecting miIk, so why don’t you offer her milk? I think it is important for us as mothers to not rush or expect our babies to be able to go through the night without feeding when they’re only a few weeks old. Dropping nighttime feeds CAN be encouraged when she starts solids (at 4 months), but not earlier, according to the guidelines here in my country. Most babies will need feeding a night up until at least 6 months. I would really advise you to speak with your public health nurse about this ❤

@@mollymae9879 A formula fed baby at 2 months old needs feeding every 3-4 hours regardless if it is day or night time. Babies this young are not yet biologically able to go a whole night without milk. You can’t refuse your baby milk for 8 hours because you want to «force» a routine. That is very wrong. You should not follow the clock, but the babys sign for hunger ♥️

Please feed bambi in the night. If she is waking up for it then she needs it, you can’t put off feeding her when she’s this little. Some babies do sleep though at this age without milk which is fine, but it’s very normal for them not to and still be waking up for milk. My first was sleeping through by 3 months, my second is not close at all but I still feed him through the night cause it’s what he needs and wants

This is a very inaccurate information that if you have your period you need to stop breastfeeding.
I had my period and I’m still breastfeeding. The same happened to my first son. I did that for 2 years actually. I don’t know where she got this information from but it is totally wrong.
I can understand to say that it was too overwhelming to exclusively breastfeeding and decided to do bottle feed because it’s normal.
I’m cluster feeding my second and it is great because I’m not too tired if I would have exclusively breastfeeding because it is quite tiring and difficult at times.
But please don’t spread misinformation for new mums or mums to be.
Also a baby needs feeding , especially at 10 weeks. They don’t understand that you are tired as a parent but they do need food.
My second son still wanted milk but he would not wake up 4-5 times at night but just at 5 am or 8 am from 10 weeks . However, whenever he would wake up I would feed him. Xx
