@ to be honest I hadn’t actually heard about Super Paper Mario until I watched this video! From what I’ve seen Super Paper Mario doesn’t feel like a Paper Mario game in my opinion, it reminds me personally of a modern-day Super Mario 64 but with a Paper Mario theme. I feel like that’s why some people hate it, but looking at it objectively as its own game and not a sequel, it looks super fun to me and I’m keeping my eye open for a good deal on a switch. I also didn’t know they remade the Thousand Year Door for the switch until I saw it at target this morning! I haven’t played it since it came out on GameCube. I THINK if I listed my top 3 games of all time based on good memories, nostalgia, and how it replays today In no particular order would be; the OG Paper Mario, Boarderlands 1 or 2, and the call of duty MW2 from 2009. How about yourself? Do you have a top 3?
Playing with difficulty mods on Dolphin changed my view of Super Paper Mario a lot. The biggest issue with the gameplay isn't anything fundamental, it's just that it's too easy. (TTYD had this problem too) Even when you just half the EXP you gain, the game becomes considerably more challenging. It's also very fun to avoid using Bowser and just try different Pixls with Mario. For example, you can use Barry like a superguard in TTYD and reflect projectiles. I found bosses like Brobot and Super Dimentio to be extremely fun at this higher difficulty. I'm fully convinced the gameplay just needed a bit of fine tuning. I really consider SPM to be the best in the franchise.
5:13 According to Shigeru Miyamoto, the “Mario Brothers” alludes to the two brothers’ surname, not the red brother’s first name. That is, their names are Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. So the “Mario” on the house is their last name, not Mario’s first name. Whether you want to take that seriously or not is up to you.
@@BomberDuck child hood show in 6th grade. This onepiece and scissor seven got me back to anime. I am kinda rewatching it but havent touched in week and i am on ep 4
i'm so thankful to nintendo for remaking ttyd, it became my favourite videogame ever After that i've replayed super paper mario, it was also my first paper mario game and i didnt remember it to be THIS GOOD, the story is crazy for a mario game And just recently i've played stiker star. what was that.
Man, I remember playing every Paper Mario game up to Sticker Star. Even enjoyed them all, too. Hit an economic snag and was never able to pick up Sticker Star. I was keeping an eye out for friends' opinions and online reviews, and it didn't look good. At all. I think if I actually would have had the money to get it, I would have been done with the series. Not even sure how much of it was an exaggeration. It was disappointing. Now Color Splash being Sticker Star 2.0? Great description. Also agree with the rest of your sentiment. I had just beat Lemmy and our toddler broke our wii u game pad. It was an accident, and we found out it was very difficult to get a new game pad. My husband refused to send in his limited edition game pad to be repaired after he had his last special edition one replaced instead of repaired. I was hoping they'd re-release it on a later system, or I'd find a garage sale game pad someday. I enjoyed the heck out of the world building in that game, though. I just can't bring myself to play oragami...mostly because I can't afford it. The 2020s are not treating me kindly, either, and I got a kid to buy games for first.
Very infuriating that IS seems to do the exact opposite of the critism of super. Where people jated the huge gameplay change and loved the characters and worlds. To only toads and now u gotta do a fkkn slide puzzle for combat.
my biggest pet peeve in paper mario discussion is the notion that the games stopped being RPG's. the only game in the entire series that I'm comfortable not considering an RPG is super paper mario. EXP isn't the defining characteristic of an RPG its not the end all be all of the genre. I argue this especially for origami king because that game has literally everything that makes a turn based RPG a turn based RPG, but just cuz there's no experience points suddenly it's just an action adventure game. despite the fact there is a clear leveling system through the max up hearts anyway. idk it just irks me
It's the developers claiming that they don't want the "newer" Paper Mario trilogy being RPGs, so if anything, that's where this whole debate originates from
damn, yet another paper mario video trashing on sticker star. nothing will change. edit: just saw your other videos thumbnails, holy shit you really are a paper mario fan!
Super is deffinatly top 3 paper mario games. Just comming off TTYD the gameplay shift was alittle dissapointing. Probabably the best storywise. Ive personally played up to sticker star
On my replace on the switch remake, my memory was the glitzpit was the longest most tedious part but playing back through it, it didnt seem that bad. Chapter 2 can go fuck itself though
Super Paper Mario was fire. I retried it last year and while the platforming is boring and very basic, the rest is absolutely top notch. Origami King was sadly 200x a time waster than SPM, what a waste man...
This has always been a weird point to me. The platforming is like, 90% of Super. Regardless of whether or not it has a good story (which it does), the rest of the thing is a slog to get through. Sorry, but I do believe that...
@@Danominator I replayed it a few weeks ago and was shocked at how poorly it holds up, even if I remember not having that good a time with it. It's so chronically unfun and the very-occasional story cutaways don't really help, that's still a LOT to get through to get to a reasonably good climax.
@@Ah0yKatie ngl I wasn't able to afford a lot of games when I was younger, so I watched all the cutscenes for this on RUclips a few years after it came out. Everybody had told me how good it was so I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Years later I actually got to play the thing and the experience was a heck of a lot worse. Weird perspective maybe, but Super Paper Mario is much more fun to watch than it is to play.
Ah. A multi hour video essay on something I already know too much about. It's a good day.
Yes the algorithm finally figured out what I live for.
5:00 I can confirm. Kirby was pissed. That's why they could only get him to do spin offs on Gamecube.
No one Kirby looked mad on the cover of the game.
This is good content. Great video, youre actually pretty funny.
Lol Mario's name is on the house because, surprisingly, Mario is the brothers last name 😂
Reference to the 1993 Live Action Mario Bros movie with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo and Dennis Hooper as Koopa
I owned paper mario n64 growing up and to this day it’s still in my top 3 favorite games of all time
I’m guessing #2 is Super Paper Mario and #1 is Thousand Year Door?
