Romsey Station on 5th June 1990
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Romsey Station taken on 05/06/1990. The location for me had just retained some interest still clasping onto several interesting workings, such as the DEMUs and 50s on empty stock. Unfortunatly the 33s on the Pompey/Bristol services were now in the hands of Sprinters. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material. Авто/Мото
Great days - my Gran’s old house backed onto the (then) freight only line through here to Eastleigh. It was a bleak location around the station but still lots of interesting kit about as you say. Thanks for taking us back to more halcyon days! (To think back then we took all this for granted)…
I would have loved to have lived there myself......yes..insight is a wonderful thing...Many thanks and best regards...Mark
29:16 Good to see a 33 at work on the ballast! 🚂👍
You're most welcome there Dave and many thanks....Mark
Bagpipe 33s did still appear with TCs to idle at Salisbury overnight, but buzzing straight through. It's getting interesting now so keep that juicy footage coming.
I will do my best Duncan.......thanks....Mark
What frequency was the Southampton Salisbury service back then ?
Also love the sound of those Thumpers
Every 30 minutes and many thanks for your interest....Mark
More brilliant footage of the time. Chandlers Ford station was still closed at this time (reopened 2003). It does look bleak there, you'd think it was a winters day, not June. A nice mix of traction and trains, it's just containers and aggregate traffic now. I remember the oil and gas trains passing through Eastleigh on my spotting visits back then, it all goes by pipeline now. The passenger trains seemed very lightly used back then, from my few visits to the area they certainly appear to be used more now.
It was very early to catch the 50......many thanks....Mark
‘Wedged’ is the word you’re looking for, particularly when a 2-car unit turns up on a Cardiff-Portsmouth diagram!
My brother commutes to CF from Gosport and does say the 2 car 158 is not enough now in rush hour needs to be a 4 car
@@limeyfox Yes and stifling....Mark
@@peterharvey1762 A cramped 4 car even at that....many thanks....Mark
Good video but you missed the Foster Yeoman and possibly ARC class 59S
probably I was not there long enough....many thanks....Mark
Another 47 on my layout spotted, 47535 on the parcels train. Correctly employed, as she was a parcels sector loco by this time!
Your layout is maybe inspired by the vids......many thanks to you....Mark
