The important thing is that the anthem should be sung with dignity. That pretty much goes out the window once the anthem becomes a personal audition for "American Idol," "The Voice," or "America's Got Talent."

@cristitoma106, thank you very much for your kind comments. Romania has been a very supportive ally in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as providing bases for NATO.
Made me homesick. Former 02T teaching guitar, concert choir and elementary music in the El Paso area. I was lucky enough to receive quite a bit of your material for my classroom from one of my former Assistant Principals. It really helps to have the video to reinforce what I am teaching, and the students are amazed at the fact that you cared enough to do it!

Though we may be a very imperfect country I wouldn't trade being American for anything. We're where all of the world comes together in one place and the experience of being around people of so many different cultures has taught me to be truly understanding to the world around me. I do admire the rest of the world but the United States of America is a truly beautiful country.

Credit where credit is due, but the Army produced this video. I merely compressed it to a size and format that RUclips would accept. I did this because the Star Spangled Banner is one of the most debased tunes by American Idol wannabes, so I wanted to be sure that people know there is a version out there that maintains the reverence that is due this anthem.

@PatriotTexas, I'm aware of the version you speak of, but the US Army Band did not perform that version. I posted this video because it is a broadcast-quality recording, and it is performed by an official military band. In fact, we use this as part of our Army ROTC graduation ceremonies. Those who wish to see that version you mention can easily find it themselves.
Go to the US Army Field Band website. At the lower right, there are two links for the high-resolution, broadcast quality version of the video. If the file size is too big or you don't have the software to convert the video to a format you can use, just get RUclips Downloader or Orbit Downloader to download the lower-res version I put on my RUclips site here.

I don't know if there's any single "official" arrangement, but I know a good one when I hear it. This is one of the good ones!
I so agree! I almost want to go back to the days when the anthem wasn't played before sporting events; this only began during World War II. If they can't sing it right, I'd just as soon they not sing it at all.

I would really like more places, sports arenas, etc, to adopt a policy where a strict interpretation of the anthem is used, and a military band/chorus like this is the best. I know there are good singers that mean well, but too many, even the good ones, embellish this song. We all know that. There's a million other songs they can sing and be as creative as they wish to be. This is one song that should be consistent.

@smyleyhigh5280, I'm not sure what you are referring to. This video features the US Army Field Band, not the Marine Band. Are you referring to some other video? (I am a former Marine enlisted and retired Army officer, so I appreciate both bands...although since the Marine band has its roots in John Phillip Sousa, I give them a slight edge.)

It made me cry... in a good way! Loved the ending. Very well done. PS: prior Army myself. I served proudly as a 91S back in the mid-80s in 3rd Armored Division, Frankfurt, FRG. I miss it.
