the F-16 is limited by the fixed air intake. And by the fact that it lacks conformal/recessed hardpoints: everything on the Viper must be mounted on pylons and this means a lot and lot of DRAG.

Starting your turn to intercept at supersonic greater than 90° angle of bank? No surprise you lost your engine! That much air disturbance would (and probably did) compressor stall the shit out of your engine! And at that speed, it’s going to result in an engine failure/fire almost immediately. Be careful of how you maneuver at supersonic speeds. The jets are a bit more sluggish at that speed, and pulling too hard will over stress the airframe, knock out the pilot, or a combination of both! Fun video though!
The Lockheed YF-12 was a prototype that would win. In this scenario, the Mig 31 is the fastest. One other plane that is surprisingly very fast is the Mig 23.
Love the channel! Just curious why you didn’t have both the F-14A and B in the test? Both were used during the 80’s, but the A variant was much more prolific in that decade.

Time to time travel back to the 1940's? The outcome for today was expected. The Mig 31 is just ridiculous power and the F-18 the exact opposite. I thought Matrix was brave flying it. I wonder if you calculated the result from time in the air where Simba would be? Probably in 2nd place at a guess. Mach 2.3 beats Violet's F-14.
Only the F-15EX and other concurrent models of the F-15, like the IA and Q have fly-by-wire. All previous versions have old school hydraulic controls. With that said improvements to the F-15EX engines, body and flight computers make it faster than the current MiG-31 in Russia service. With an unclassified speed of Mach 2.5+, thought its believed it can approach Mach 2.8+ for limited stenches without significant strain on the engines or body of the aircraft.
Uhm, what kind of logistics is this? Why not arrange it so that you actually have a full rooster of human pilots available; find a time that fits enough people? Be careful of how you maneuver at supersonic speeds. The jets are a bit more sluggish at that speed, and pulling too hard will over stress the airframe, knock out the pilot, or a combination of both!
Fun video though!
Fun times watch these races! Can't wait for the next one.
The lighting electronics old but it’s record’s speaks volumes
The Lockheed YF-12 was a prototype that would win. In this scenario, the Mig 31 is the fastest. One other plane that is surprisingly very fast is the Mig 23.
Tried SR-71 here: 1960's (Attempt 1 of 2): ruclips.net/video/2KcH7XcHUR8/видео.html
Cap, have you heard of the F-11 Tiger? It managed to shoot itself down when testing the cannon, can you do something similar in DCS?
I thing they do this in dcs in the past

Love the channel! Just curious why you didn’t have both the F-14A and B in the test? Both were used during the 80’s, but the A variant was much more prolific in that decade.
guessing that they are the only versions available in game?
@@ThePereubu1710 The A and B are both available.
Maybe they didnt have enough human players?
@@rjminar1980 he literally says they ran out of players so they had to use AI for the Foxhound and couldn't take the Mirage in the start of the video....
@@BlackHawkBallistic then take the A over the B if it’s and 90’s race.
No Simba! :(
I REALLY DO LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOU FOR ALL YOU DO WITH MAKING THESE VIDEOS,I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO DO A GREAT DEAL OF RESOURCE FOR THE VIDEOS, TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE CORRECT AND TRUE.I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN REALLY FASCINATED WITH THE HISTORY OF THE MILITARY AND WEAPONS OF WAR.KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK AND I TRULY DO TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YOU SIR. THANKS.

LOUD NOISES
@@slowhornet4802 😆😂😆 DAMN, Thank you I guess!!!
Any reason why the English electric lightning wasn't tested in any clip? Designed purely as an interceptor.
How about the Tornado F3? That had some interesting results against American fighters during its time in service...
there is no lightning in DCS
@@Elcicikos I don't play the game so I was just checking, guessing it's the same reason for the F3 too?
@@Jase29 Yes
Just waiting for a flyable public version to appear in game.
Off the books, F15 or MiG 25 should be the smashing this. F14 for third place.
Bring back the EE.Lightning! ❤️
I would have loved to have seen the Tornado ADV be a part of this. Someday I suppose.
@@ObsydianShade Really? That's very interesting. That type of result would have still been worth it to me. If the answer is that it would do poorly, I'd like to see it to find out and compare it to the other aircraft. You learn something either way.
IRL, what does am F-15 drop-tank cost, do you suppose?
I love the mig 31 because it's so good at long range intercepts
A crappy plane but maybe the best interceptor ever produced.
I'm not trying to be Critical, I LOVE your videos! But honst question, you said max fuel...can't the F/A-18 take 3 ext. fuel tanks? Left Center and right?
Pilot requested only 2 bags based on calcs, so allowed it.
@@grimreapers Awesome! Thank you, Cap!
It’s a great day!
never apologize for a jet's loudness lol
DCS where is the damn Mig23/23bn??
If it had enough fuel for that intercept, it would be probably second only to Mig-31. And to Mig-25 of course. Why there was no Mig-25 in 70's race ? :(
do a low altitude intercept ( under 500ft) at 350 miles and see who gets there fastest? or has that been done already?? good showing guys.
It brings some challenges. Fuel burn us MUCH higher low down, so you could do 350 miles BUT you'd have to go REALLY slow to save fuel.
@@grimreapers the target is at 350 miles and it's height is at 500 ft not your interceptors?
Three bird roast lunch - with plum crumble and cream Capt!
Lucky I am not flying in this one, after that meal I would need 300000 pounds of thrust and boosters to get me airborne.
Loving these Capt please keep um going.
If there is a mod for the avro arrow you should try the sixties run again with it
I’m with CAP on this in the start of this.. imho - F15
The tornado Adv F.3 is missing
I know cap bust he's jet.. lol. Good game. 👍😊
Want to See an F-111 in the mix
agree
Time to time travel back to the 1940's?
The outcome for today was expected. The Mig 31 is just ridiculous power and the F-18 the exact opposite. I thought Matrix was brave flying it.
I wonder if you calculated the result from time in the air where Simba would be? Probably in 2nd place at a guess. Mach 2.3 beats Violet's F-14.
The f-15 can stay on the burners longer than any Russian airplane in real life.
Mirage 2000s joins someways in and the MIG 31 is AI from the start...I don't get the reasoning.
Then again...you'll probably end up re-doing this as well, so...maybe its a me problem?
5:18 F15 was developed as a bomber. The F 16 as a fighter, didn't you mean the F16? Amazing video guys. Legendary stuff!!
Nope air superiority for the f15c bro
Mig-31 ZOOM climb to intercept the SR-71 - was always going to win
Do this with the draken, gripen and viggen!!
HAHAHAH man! the F15 is such a Hot Rod!!!!
nothing like a good bonking hey cap #trapdoor
The Harrier went into service April 1980 ....just saying but you guys know your stuff😆
also the Tornado went into service in 79/80
The F16 is the only single engine aircraft here, seems like it should have taken off 1st since it takes time to start a jet engine.
Enjoyed this. Had high hopes for the F14.😕
It came in third behind 2 land based jets. The F100s used by the F-15C have similar thrust to the F110s used by the F-14B, but the Eagle airframe is lighter.
@@christianvalentin5344 totally understand and agree but in my mind that F14 was always a winner no matter the odds. Great flight love these comparisons of who's machine is the best 😃👍
I can't wait to see an English Electric Lightning in the game - as soon as it is can you re-run these tests? :D
Hey cap you should redo video where you had the worlds Carriers vs the universe but instead of the legacy systems, use the modern technology.
wilco but it's a way down the line.
DCS needs more British fighters.
MiG-31. Next.
What about the F111 Aardvark? Not a dedicated fighter, but it could act the role.
My money is on the F-14 Tomcat.
Whait, The F14 is carrying a LANTIRN on an AA Mission?
Cap, I'm sort of surprised about your initial negativity towards the Su-27, whilst talking up the capability of the F-15, when the Su-27 was specifically designed to surpass the F-15 in capability as it's then perceived chief advisory......🤔
Once again, as in the case of the other 'Bomber interceptor' videos, I think the true reflection of the given fighter/interceptor designs true capabilities would be to compare them in climb rate, using their sensors and weapons (factoring in their weight and drag) to intercept the bomber.
Where are the mighty SAAB Viggen and Draken?
I think Viggen was in this one: 1970's (Attempt 1 of 2): ruclips.net/video/7yyt2tW27qA/видео.html
@@grimreapers True and thanks I found it. I actually expected the JA37 Viggen from the 1980’s and not the older AJS37 Viggen from the 1970’s.
JA37 had a RM8B engine instead of RM8A and ~10% stronger/faster.
AJS37 is an upgraded AJ37 to give it limited multirole capacity and ability for robot 15 (RB15), bomb 90 and Rb74 all weapons developed for JAS39 Gripen+Sidewinder+Surveillance, compared to the original AJ37.
Hey cap can you do another version of the uk/USA carrier striker group vs china/Russia carrier strike group
Yeh but there's a load of stuff we need to get working first.
