@@HeavySetTactical409 Hello....yes IS a tank....but thé Woodd in France are very hard so with my tomahawk coldsteel thé job IS easy......good day for You......ciao ...
I bought this knife in 154cm with the grey linen micarta scales with red liners from BladeHQ almost 5 years ago for $150. Miss those days. FYI, the micarta scales are thicker than the G10 scales by bit. Or at least they were back then. I absolutely love this knife. This was my first “real knife” fixed blade purchase and since I’m a poor man, I was undecided for months between this and a couple ESEE knives. I am so glad I chose this because of exactly what you said about the scandivex edge. It’s a wonderful edge geometry. It feels like a survival knife in the hand yet cuts like a bushcraft knife when you need it to. Mind you, it doesn’t make butter of wood like a true scandi like a Mora, but you have more control in your cuts with a convex edge. Also, I sanded down my spine to a mirror polish 90 degree edge and it looks super sexy. You’re so right about the fit and finish. It feels and looks like a $300 knife and I paid half. Sorry about the inflation now guys. Anyway, if you don’t own one, you’re missing out. The BOB will outlast me AND whoever inherits it. ✌️
I have a couple of Tops D fly blades that are incredibly good, my go tos. Have one of these coming. Curiosity got the better of me. I think it was wingman who modified the spine for ferro striker by dremmeling a small section of the jimping, removing one tooth with a small barrel sander on a dremmel. Brilliant really.
Hi John, Yeah, the TOPS BOB is a great knife. Regarding what you said about the 1095 carbon steel (which TOPS almost always uses), I agree it's not a modern "super steel", it can rust, and there are MANY better steels out there (e.g. CPM-CruWear, MagnaCut, 3V, CPM-M4, etc.), BUT 1095 is more affordable for larger knives, TOUGH, and easy to sharpen in the field. As long as I keep mine cleaned, dried and oiled, I haven't had any major problems with rust. Some other awesome TOPS knives (that are in 1095), but you still might want to check out are: TOPS Brakimo, Tanimboca Puukko, and El Chete. These are 3 of my favorite TOPS knives, and these 3 make a great combination for the outdoors (but the El Chete is for car-camping ONLY - I wouldn't want to go backpacking or even hiking with that hunk of steel!😄). I like the Brakimo even better than my BOB (no aggressive jimping & very comfortable handle), and the Tanimboca Puukko is simply wonderful to use for woodworking. It really bites into the wood with the modified Scandi grind, and the handle gives great control. The El Chete is just an AWESOME BEAST of a CHOPPER! Promise I don't represent TOPS, but, while I'm at it, the Scandi Trekker and Mini-Scandi Trekker are also great! I totally understand why you prefer knives that are NOT in 1095, but these 3 TOPS knives are SO great, I think they're worth getting in spite of not having a premium steel. Just my opinion, but everyone has their own preferences, and THATS OK! 😎👍I do hope TOPS decides to start using some higher quality steels, because they have some great designs (as well as a lot of really weird ones!) 😆, and I like to buy knives that are MADE IN THE USA!
Trying to decide between this one and the Lion Steel M5 with the leather sheath. Whichever one I get will be my every day carry I am an over the road truck driver and steel hauler.
I also have one of these. It's funny, but we seem to have the same taste in knives! 😅 Good knife. I also have the Brakimo, and I think I like that a little better, but they're both damn good knives. Mine is also the 154CM version. I got it for cheap in one of Apostle P's weekly sales, and it had his edge on it. Very very sharp! TOPS has a lot of really good knives. I have quite a few of them!
Tops are starting to use some premium "Super Steels" like Elmax in their product lines, the people have spoken. Looking forward to some more premium steels like CPM S110V, CPM S90V or even M390 would be nice. Although I'm not a fan of Tops knives in particular, due to the over use of 1095 and some of their designs like the Fieldcraft knife, if they used different steels and upped the anti on their hardness ratings, maybe I might be lured back. Until then, there are tons of other options for bushcraft/survival knives available out there with much better steel than 1095 or 154CM!
I wish one of the Brothers a Bushcraft could do a video on how to actually use that Shango Notch… It seems like nobody on the Internet knows just exactly how to use it on this awesome blade.🤷🏻♂️
Hey watch a lot of content, I have and use lots of knives daily living on an island in SC and being a garden designer and installer, but really like your reviews and take in terms of table top. Ever need anything for sone content let me know I got alot from work tuff to Barkies to latest evo typhoon, bug spectrum is all I’m saying, keep up the good work 👍
I love this knife but the fire steel situation is silly. Even if your way works (it barely does and it’s awkward in the hand) they lose points because it’s not intuitive. They wouldn’t have been sacrificing anything to just give it a 90 spine.
@@HeavySetTactical409 Totally. Anyway, still a great knife. Thanks for all the great knife videos. You’re easily one of the best knife channels on RUclips.
$200 and bitching about jimping included. It is fine if you’re a rich collector who never uses even a butter knife, but you can get an awesome practical European blade for half of that, or way less.

What about the corrosion resistance of 154CM steel? Is it rust-resistant? Is the sheath clip made of stainless steel?

Its a shame that some knife companies are going out of business this year
How do we get the knife reviewing community to keep their talking hands off the screen during these videos?
I think it's more of a sabre grind than a true scandi, but it works well.

1095 is tougher and easier to sharpen
