WHY PERFUME WAS BORN IN FRANCE... In the 16th century, France was the country where perfume was most produced and consumed. However, it was thought that the application of perfume into the body would cause diseases, perfume was only used to mask stench. For this reason, perfume was applied to clothes, gloves, handkerchiefs, even jewellery.
WHY PERFUME WAS BORN IN FRANCE...
It is known that perfume is produced to prevent bad odors when there is no toilet habit in France. At one point, there were no toilets in France and all of Europe, people were doing toilets in the streets or pouring buckets of streets.
3,000 years ago, from the ancient Greeks, who had a bath culture, Europeans regained the habit of bathing, but in the 19th century, it was not in the first world that they had acquired a bathing habit. it will take place towards the beginning of the 20th century.
Perfume comes from the Latin word "perfumum", which means scented smoke, and is quite old in history. About 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians burned scented grass for the sun gods Râ from sunrise to sunset. They used scented oils to put mummies, perfume bottles and scented creams on their graves. As a matter of fact, perfume bottles and cream vases were removed from the tomb of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamon during excavations. In their daily lives, the Egyptians used scented oils and pomats. Among them, it was a fragrant oil called "kyphi" which was their favorite. Kyphi was a mixture of honey, wine, rice, sturgeon, saffron, mule and juniper extracts. Nefertiti bathed in jasmine and after bathing sandalwood, amber and rare flower extracts on her body.
The first known fragrance with contemporary qualities was the 14th century. It was built in 1370 and was attributed to the Hungarian queen, famous for her beauty. It was also not forgotten that this mixture, which is derived from a mixture of essence and rosemary oil and alcohol and enriched with lavender oil, was given a special name: "Hungarian Water".
With the advance of glass art in the 16th century, the process of perfume's development accelerated. In the 16th century, France was the country where perfume was most produced and consumed. However, it was thought that the application of perfume into the body would cause diseases, perfume was only used to mask stench. For this reason, perfume was applied to clothes, gloves, handkerchiefs, even jewellery.
17th and 18th century. In the 19th century, the perfume industry has developed considerably. Grasse region of France in particular has become the center of the perfume industry.
