I agree with you because she went ahead to take a picture. I won’t even lie that wouldn’t come to my mind asap even tho I watch true crime. I mean cops first then if I look out the window and see a truck that’ll spark up my brain and I’d take a pic of the plate number. But if no plate number I’ll leave my phone at the window recording in a discreet way until the fool comes out. Only place i don’t have a camera is the washroom especially since i started watching true crime I didn’t think the door camera was enough

@@LSPD1909 Not everyone thinks it's a great idea to call the police these days. Justified or not, the situation exists. People often don't want to involve themselves with the police. No more anonymous pay phones to use, either. These days, if you call the cops, they know it was you.
I was attacked by a stranger outside of my apartment. He was on drugs and drunk and very violent. He tried to hit me and grabbed and tugged my hair. I saw people in the windows but nobody did anything. I eventually was able to call the police myself. I was extremely dissapointed nobody helped me.

Cops ignore anonymous tips and are *required* to say who called. What if the neighbour is into bondage or some shit and the truck belongs to the guy she called to tie her up and whip her? Do you really want to live next to a neighbor that will be permanently pissed off at you? Have you ever been in a situation like that before? Also everyone knows that if you're getting murdered you scream "fire, help!" people take that shit way more seriously.

I had her as a computer teacher in 2006. She was wonderful. Taught me so much, many of the cool keyboard shortcuts I use everyday. Hell, she even taught me how to type properly. I'm sure I'd be tying this comment at least 15% slower if it wasn't for her. I remember she brought stress balls to class often, taught us how to avoid carpel tunnel syndrome, how to use Paint, and so much more. One time, she caught me playing iSketch during class (an old online Pictionary game). I thought she was going scold me, but instead she asked if she could play with me. It was a powerful moment for me, as I wasn't used to this sort of interaction from teachers. I always remember her as one of the better well-rounded teachers. She will be missed by many I'm sure

The reason why the neighbour is disturbing is because she had the ability to potentially save this woman by calling the police the second she heard the blood curdling screams. The fact she didn’t lift a finger to help (besides take a photo of the truck) is really eerie. Can you imagine being the neighbour and sitting through all that screaming and begging for mercy yet making the conscious decision to just listen to it and not help....that’s unbelievably disturbing.
I've been attacked and screaming for help so that neighbour saying she heard a woman screaming and asking to stop makes me really upset. I understand you may be scared but at least call someone, turn a light on, call out - do something! I don't expect people to put themselves in danger, but sometimes just the belief that someone is coming to the rescue may cause an attacker to flee.

Someone once told me if I’m in danger or being attacked and need help that I should scream “FIRE”. For some reason ppl are more likely to take that seriously and do something.
"Fire" is a proximity based threat, and if there's fire alarming someone enough close enough you can hear, the fire could easily become your problem too! It's stupid, but "Help" is usually too vague, and is too common with people just playing around for EVERYONE to ALWAYS take it seriously. There was one time my father heard screams of distress and went racing down the street and it was because a little girl was scared of a large dog asking to be petted. -_-

I'm so glad to know Kobe got adopted and hope he found the home he deserves. The poor dog looked so scared in the truck and who knows what he went through with that psychopath for an owner. It's an attempt to understand people's (supposed) behaviour ("supposed" because afaik, the original event that inspired it was misreported and in reality, the more bystanders there are, the more likely that someone will intervene). So, people can criticise it for being exaggerated or wrong. But there's a huge difference between trying to understand something and trying to justify it.
I thought the same thing. This is why they used to teach women to scream "FIRE" when being assaulted because people will actually come to help put out a fire. 😔

I told my significant other. If I'm murdered unless they need my body to charge, don't make a deal for my body. I'm already gone and I'll just be buried again. These stories where a neighbor hears and does nothing makes me more grateful for my neighbors at my last apartment. My then boyfriend had fallen pretty heavily onto the floor. He was fine and it was just one thud but it was hard. Police showed up not long after and wanted to see he was safe even after I said what happened. If he had actually gotten hurt, if someone had hurt him, he would have been possibly saved due to that neighbor. We laughed about it at the time but it makes me a bit emotional now. That neighbor and the cops that day were looking out for him...and it was just a thud. How do people ignore screams for help? It just breaks my heart...but I think to those neighbors and though I didn't know them...I'm wishing them extra well for looking out for their fellow man.

There really only there for the aftermath of serious crimes and usually don’t solve them. Hence why so many crime shows/podcasts all cover so many of the same solved cases. They only clear 46% of violent crime. Maybe if they weren’t worried about stupid shit like sagging pants…

Look up Kitty Genovese...stabbed to death in the middle of the street; 38 witnesses saw, no one stopped the attack or called the police...it’s called the bystander effect...
People constantly bring up Kitty Genovese for the bystander but there's no evidence that there were 38 witnesses to her murder, much less 38 people that ignored her being attacked and did nothing. People did call 911 for help, a woman even held Kitty until the ambulance came. She died on the way to hospital.

I’ve learned a few crime tricks in life. If you’re being raped, yell “fire” and if you’re being attacked in your rich-neighborhood-house, yell “there’s a black man raping me!” That lady would’ve called the cops for either of those shouts, bet.
Just a couple weeks ago, I heard a woman screaming outside near my house. I thought of all these videos, and I went outside to investigate. I am a very petite woman, so it's not like I could physically stop an attack, but at least I could call the police if necessary. It was a domestic dispute situation. I didn't witness any violence, but the woman had bruises on her and told me that he had been violent in the past. Sadly, she ended up returning home with him, because they have children and she doesn't want to leave them with him. But I got her contact information and we now talk regularly. I hope I can convince her to leave before she becomes one of these videos. :(

Strikes me as bystander effect. She felt the need to do something she figured no one else did yet, but most people assume someone already called 911. It's why if you are ever around when an emergency happens, you tell specific people what to do. "You, in the red shirt, call 911, and you in the khakis give me some paper towels." And if you hear someone screaming, it doesn't hurt to be the second person who called, just call. It was one of the first things I learned in first aid classes before I was a first responder. Let's help fight bystander effect, do something.

The same indifference that the police displayed when they didn't send him to a psych hospital before anything happened. What would have been the downside? There is absolutely no downside. I was with a friend, and he agreed that we had to do something. We ran to the nearby 7/11 as our phones were dead, burst in there, and begged someone to call 911. Everyone in the store put their heads down and no one offered to call. The management of the store refused to let us call the police. My friend didn't want to get involved, so I ran to the police station. I waited for like a half hour to talk to someone. The detective started asking me questions, attempting to trip me up. I was like "Wait, why are you treating me as the suspect here?" Eventually, they said they'd call a car. Some days later, I read about a murder in that area in the paper. I will never know for sure, but ... The police told me that since I couldn't give them more exact information, there was nothing they could do. Oh, I also ran down a cop car in the street, and they told me to walk to the police station and make a report.
I don't believe she heard a thing. Some people just like to insert themselves into serious situations to make themselves feel important, the opposite happened here. Some people are just idiots.

You’re right, but I also understand why some people hesitate. I called the police over my neighbor’s boyfriend beating her, sounded especially bad and I SAW him punch her in the face. She thanked me by putting sugar in my damn gas tank because it was *my* fault her boyfriend was in jail. The bystander effect is another reason it happens... but if she took it upon herself to photograph his truck, I don’t see why she wouldn’t take it upon herself to call the police. That’s weird.

Was Kobe's demeanor during the arrest typical of Huskies? I know it was only a quick glympse but my Standard Poodle would be barking about all the excitement/trouble or whining to meet the new people if she didn't realize I was upset. Haha one of the last times I was at a video rental store in like 2006/7 (Hollywood Video) I walked in and there was no one around, no movie playing, etc. I was looking for Requiem For A Dream and went to the counter and no one was there that I saw. Then two guys popped up from behind the counter (manager and robber), and the god damn manager was trying to wrestle the gun out of this larger guys hands while I stood there instead of just giving him the cash. He wrestled it away and they kept fumbling around to the door and both got pushed through and cut up bad. Robber was found like 20 mins later and gun turned out to be spray painted water gun but like seriously WTF? JUST GIVE HIM THE F’ING MONEY! Never went back.
I remember screaming for help multiple times every time my ex-husband beat me. They never even asked. I was wailing earlier this year over a death, and my neighbor told me thought maybe it was a "domestic dispute" and that he didn't want to get involved. So ... Yeah.
Well, if it happened a lot, as implied by your phrase "every time", your neighbors correctly inferred that you chose to participate and would probably lie to the cops, thus setting them up for charges of false reports, not to mention putting them in danger from the man you chose, not them

Years ago in NY. Kitty Genoese was screaming for help and several neighbors heard her and did nothing. She was murdered right below their windows, which they had closed to drown out the noise. What does that tell you about humans.

I was attacked by a stranger outside of my apartment. He was on drugs and drunk and very violent. He tried to hit me and grabbed and tugged my hair. I saw people in the windows but nobody did anything. I eventually was able to call the police myself. I was extremely dissapointed nobody helped me.

I had her as a computer teacher in 2006. She was wonderful. Taught me so much, many of the cool keyboard shortcuts I use everyday. Hell, she even taught me how to type properly. I'm sure I'd be tying this comment at least 15% slower if it wasn't for her. I remember she brought stress balls to class often, taught us how to avoid carpel tunnel syndrome, how to use Paint, and so much more. One time, she caught me playing iSketch during class (an old online Pictionary game). I thought she was going scold me, but instead she asked if she could play with me. It was a powerful moment for me, as I wasn't used to this sort of interaction from teachers. I always remember her as one of the better well-rounded teachers. She will be missed by many I'm sure

I've been attacked and screaming for help so that neighbour saying she heard a woman screaming and asking to stop makes me really upset. I understand you may be scared but at least call someone, turn a light on, call out - do something! It's stupid, but "Help" is usually too vague, and is too common with people just playing around for EVERYONE to ALWAYS take it seriously. These stories where a neighbor hears and does nothing makes me more grateful for my neighbors at my last apartment. My then boyfriend had fallen pretty heavily onto the floor. He was fine and it was just one thud but it was hard. Police showed up not long after and wanted to see he was safe even after I said what happened. If he had actually gotten hurt, if someone had hurt him, he would have been possibly saved due to that neighbor. We laughed about it at the time but it makes me a bit emotional now. That neighbor and the cops that day were looking out for him...and it was just a thud. How do people ignore screams for help? It just breaks my heart...but I think to those neighbors and though I didn't know them...I'm wishing them extra well for looking out for their fellow man.

People don't want to get involved . In London you don't speak to your neighbours & you could collapse in the street & people would step over you . The North & Midlands are the complete opposite.
Or, they were screaming at each other all the time and the neighbors stopped worrying about it.
Maybe because they were doing something illegal themselves.. like smoking or snorting. Not all garbage human beings are killers.. some are bystanders that pull out their phone to record a crime instead of calling cops or helping.
Look up Kitty Genovese...stabbed to death in the middle of the street; 38 witnesses saw, no one stopped the attack or called the police...it’s called the bystander effect...
People constantly bring up Kitty Genovese for the bystander but there's no evidence that there were 38 witnesses to her murder, much less 38 people that ignored her being attacked and did nothing. People did call 911 for help, a woman even held Kitty until the ambulance came. She died on the way to hospital.

And then literally takes a photo of the truck in the driveway acknowledging that it's very likely someone is attacking her and this might evidence later and still doesn't fucking call the police lol
I’ve learned a few crime tricks in life. If you’re being raped, yell “fire” and if you’re being attacked in your rich-neighborhood-house, yell “there’s a black man raping me!” That lady would’ve called the cops for either of those shouts, bet.
Just a couple weeks ago, I heard a woman screaming outside near my house. I thought of all these videos, and I went outside to investigate. I am a very petite woman, so it's not like I could physically stop an attack, but at least I could call the police if necessary.
It was a domestic dispute situation. I didn't witness any violence, but the woman had bruises on her and told me that he had been violent in the past. Sadly, she ended up returning home with him, because they have children and she doesn't want to leave them with him. But I got her contact information and we now talk regularly. I hope I can convince her to leave before she becomes one of these videos. :(

I'm truly perplexed as to why they felt compelled enough to take a photo of the unidentified truck but never thought hey I should call the cops also!!!
I guess they didn't want to get involved...sigh. It does seem horrible that the poor woman managed to scream for help and was HEARD (!) yet nobody did anything.
Strikes me as bystander effect. She felt the need to do something she figured no one else did yet, but most people assume someone already called 911. It's why if you are ever around when an emergency happens, you tell specific people what to do. "You, in the red shirt, call 911, and you in the khakis give me some paper towels." And if you hear someone screaming, it doesn't hurt to be the second person who called, just call. It was one of the first things I learned in first aid classes before I was a first responder. Let's help fight bystander effect, do something.
What's even better is that it wasn't an unidentified truck. He lived in the townhouse with her until they separated, the neighbors knew it was his.

I can imagine maybe she didn’t think the police would care for a simple scream heard, I don’t know, in my country domestic violence is so common that people are desensitized. Like, they say that nobody should interfere in a couple’s argument. Really sad, for women at least.

I agree. Several years back I lived in an apartment and I heard a bunch of fighting. The minute I heard the young woman say you're hurting me I was on the phone with 911. It's sad more people don't do that.
The same indifference that the police displayed when they didn't send him to a psych hospital before anything happened. What would have been the downside? There is absolutely no downside. At worst, he would have ultimately been released and done the same thing. However, it is quite possible they would have prevented a murder.

I was with a friend, and he agreed that we had to do something. We ran to the nearby 7/11 as our phones were dead, burst in there, and begged someone to call 911. Everyone in the store put their heads down and no one offered to call. The management of the store refused to let us call the police. My friend didn't want to get involved, so I ran to the police station. I waited for like a half hour to talk to someone. The detective started asking me questions, attempting to trip me up. I was like "Wait, why are you treating me as the suspect here?" Eventually, they said they'd call a car. Some days later, I read about a murder in that area in the paper. I will never know for sure, but ...
The police told me that since I couldn't give them more exact information, there was nothing they could do. Oh, I also ran down a cop car in the street, and they told me to walk to the police station and make a report.

Guys, if you hear someone screaming "No!" like they're being attacked, please call the cops. Don't be like this idiot neighbor and just go back to bed or doing whatever you were doing beforehand. Even if the police find that there's no cause for concern, it's worth the call. You could be someone's last hope.

You’re right, but I also understand why some people hesitate. I called the police over my neighbor’s boyfriend beating her, sounded especially bad and I SAW him punch her in the face. She thanked me by putting sugar in my damn gas tank because it was *my* fault her boyfriend was in jail.

Was Kobe's demeanor during the arrest typical of Huskies? I know it was only a quick glympse but my Standard Poodle would be barking about all the excitement/trouble or whining to meet the new people if she didn't realize I was upset. Likely she'd be very aware of my yelling and be upset trying to get out to find me because she likes to be in the middle of shenanigans.

@@buzkxll771 If it is a gang hit, or mob related shooting and you get directly involved you can find yourself in a fucked up situation. Best to do it anonymously. If they know it is neighbors they will find out who it is. Happens a lot in poor neighborhoods, one of the reasons they don't call.

Haha one of the last times I was at a video rental store in like 2006/7 (Hollywood Video) I walked in and there was no one around, no movie playing, etc. I was looking for Requiem For A Dream and went to the counter and no one was there that I saw. Then two guys popped up from behind the counter (manager and robber), and the god damn manager was trying to wrestle the gun out of this larger guys hands while I stood there instead of just giving him the cash. He wrestled it away and they kept fumbling around to the door and both got pushed through and cut up bad.
Robber was found like 20 mins later and gun turned out to be spray painted water gun but like seriously WTF? JUST GIVE HIM THE F’ING MONEY! Never went back.

I was wailing earlier this year over a death, and my neighbor told me thought maybe it was a "domestic dispute" and that he didn't want to get involved. So ... Yeah.
Well, if it happened a lot, as implied by your phrase "every time", your neighbors correctly inferred that you chose to participate and would probably lie to the cops, thus setting them up for charges of false reports, not to mention putting them in danger from the man you chose, not them

He said he wanted to “remove himself from the situation” because he felt like the world was ending due to Covid-19, but that explanation makes no sense because he killed somebody else.
He is in the can for the next 38 years..........So i guess his plan to remove himself from the situation worked quite well.

Years ago in NY. Kitty Genoese was screaming for help and several neighbors heard her and did nothing. She was murdered right below their windows, which they had closed to drown out the noise. What does that tell you about humans.
