@@jrossi91 He did say the UK which Scotand is part of the UK. Ireland is not but still considered in the UK. But you are correct they still hate England. So you are both right.
I think too many are heavily underestimating Italy because well that is not a stellar formation, but I also don't see anybody underlining how good the Germany team is, playing home nonetheless; so I am not surprised people just looking at other teams for the win to be shocked by the field results. This tournament will be decent for Italy, but I think that it's the worlds where it will shine.
I will be surprised if they get out of the group stage. Don't get me wrong I want them to succeed. But....This is not a team in good form at the moment. For me this is still a stepping stone for Italy. They are gearing up first to qualify for the World Cup in 26. Which they haven't done since 2014. Then showing well there. The U17 squad just won the Euros. That shows that the youth are coming but not till 2028 Euro and 2030 WC.
They are the current Euro Champion for U17 and U19. Lamine Is already in the Spain squad at 16 this Euros so anything is possible if the coach is open minded. Francesco Camarda will be 18 when the 2026 WC comes, it's up to his performance and Spalletti.
The two championships were in 1934 , 1938 when there's not many good teams in the world. The current Italy team do not have players to carry them toward the final so I think they can go as far as quarter final game
We have a lot of good players, but aside from Barella, DiMarco and Chiesa I haven't seen to many great players in this lineup. Scamacca and Retegui have a big opportunity to make a real name for themselves, and i'm hoping they don't disappoint.
The 3 you mentioned plus Bastoni and Donnaruma are world class in their respective positions. If Scammaca can continue perform at the level he was with Atalanta, they could be a headache for any big team.
I hope it's accurate what you're saying about those three being world class. Chiesa certainly would have been had he not blown out his knee. Very recently he's got some, not all, some of that burst back. But without it he's just a guy. That said it's a 2 year recovery in contemporary professional sports. I heard someone make what might be a good point about Italy being behind in modern sports medicine, rehab and recovery. Wouldn't surprise me if they're where the NFL was in the early 2000s re knee reconstructions. Beralla has got to get healthy Jorginho is not gonna be able to go 90. Especially not 3 times in 10 days. Same with Chiesa. Our best regista is suspended. The Inter Block back 3 is no longer with the Accribi injury Maybe Mancini goes full Materatzi in '06 Really wish Udogie was part of this, if nothing but for the impact it would have for '26 Do people outside of Bergamo and or Italy have any idea how good Scamacca can be. We haven't had a true #10 who can make something out of nothing since Vieri. That guy is gonna be THE break out star of the whole tournament! I feel like Quarters is a nice result. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Will be upset if they don't get out of the group.
