Glad you enjoyed it. I'm thinking it will be 6-8 weeks before a meaningful next update. Doing this has me wondering what the smallest corm size would be to grow a new plant. I'm scheming up a test for that next.
If you've got indoor space, you can do it whenever. Different varieties have taken different amounts of time for me and produced different numbers of new plants, but you should still have enough time to start now and get them growing by summer to pack on some real growth. Are you contemplating dividing an ensete or other variety?
I would give it a go. It's a scary thing at first... chopping up one of your plants. I've done it 4 times now and had success each time. The ensete has produced way more plants than my other attempts (Musa basjoo x2 and blue java). I think it's the nature of the variety and not something I've done.
Love your videos man. I covered my Blue Java the same way you showed on your channel with the bubble wrap. It's been hitting high 50s here on the key peninsula during the day so I uncover it wh3n I'm at work to absorb a little light and start to adjust to the incoming spring weather and then I recover at night as it is still hitting mid 30s at night here. When do you think fully uncovering them should be okay based on your experience? And another note..I'm assuming it's normal but the stem looks really nasty when being revealed from being covered all winter. I imagine the new leaves will eventually push upward through it?
I usually unwrap mine the first week of April assuming there are no days forecasted below freezing. That almost guarantees there won't be freezes. You'll want to adjust for your area. Google average last freeze date for your area and you can get a rough idea. As far as unwrapping, yeah they can be a little slimey when you first unwrap them. This hasn't caused me any problems to date and they have always pushed out new growth, often even before I unwrap them.
