    Excellent video, we have a CS, when we restored the cluster we used LED lights also, big improvement.

    You are braver man than me with regard to using superglue to install the acrylic lenses Mr WM......but pleased to see it all turned out peachy in the end......they look fab doooood, a huge improvement!

    Regarding fixing the acrylic cover might have been worth considering a black bituminous rubber glazing strip (the sort of stuff they used for fixing windscreens in cars). Flexible, absorbs vibration and is waterproof etc.
    Yes acetone is really bad…. so bad in fact that many years back apprentice draughtsmen would be told to soak plastic instruments in it overnight for a “deep” cleaning….. leaving just a residue of sticky goo the following day. But at least it smells nice.;D

      You can't beat a good ol fashioned acetone related prank! Good idea with the glazing strip. Next time :)

    Nice job, thanks for sharing! Great you managed to DIY it -- new instruments are expensive!
    Is the LED light for the charge state (battery/regulator) bypassed by a resistor? I think it needs one as otherwise it can cause regulator failure. I imagine if it was from a special kit for an airhead then that would be factored in.

      Thanks. The green LED lights were only used for the background on the dials. The index lights are still incandescent bulbs. There is a Katdash kit you can get to change these if you want. I’m guessing they have figured out the correct resistance for the charge light.

    Great job, especially when considering how many small, unwitting mistakes could have ruined the whole project. You made it look easy!

    My 1982 R100CS has needed little repair over the years but the speedometer and the instrument cluster lights did need repair/replacing. The LEDs are a big improvement.

    Very interesting and inspiring! The speedo on my GoldWing is making squeaky noises every now and again. I'm afraid i will too if i dive into it and fail.. :)
    Cheers mate!

    Great upload, really interesting to see the clocks stripped apart. Are you a watchmaker by any chance?

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  Год назад +1

      I have taken a couple of mechanical watches apart in my time. I certainly wouldn’t call myself a watch maker though.

      @@WildlifeMoto fair play to you, it's quite a complex thing to attempt.I'm learning the trade and focussing on clocks at the moment, part time, and hope to go full time in about 12 months. It's fascinating and if you fancy building your own watch, have a look at a one day course at A World of Time in Studley, Warwickshire. I'm loving your channel and am playing catch up with your uploads. Thanks and keep up the great work 👍

    Good result. Very clear and concise instructions. Have you tried the bulbs yet ? Were they from Motorworks ? Some people say the Katdash led replacement ‘panel’ is too bright. Yours okay ?

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  Год назад +1

      Hi Lesley. I got the bulbs from eBay. I've not tested them yet. I have seen a few kat dash installs and I agree that the lights are extremely bright. I only changed the bulbs behind the dials, so hopefully they'll be ok. If not I'll go with a green incandescent bulb.

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  Год назад

      It was around £70 for new visors, new lenses, new gaskets and the bulbs.
