- My podcast is about crochet, knitting, crafty stuff and other lovely things!
This is a little video I made as I was trying out a Christmas gift - a kit for dyeing yarn with Kool Aid. It's not intended to be instructional in any way - just me messing about and experimenting :) It was a LOT of fun and I would highly recommend trying it out!
Really enjoyed your podcast. Please do not feel you have to apologise for the ukulele, it was lovely to see you and your daughter play & sing together xx
Loved watching. Both came out very nice
Well done Alley. Great video. I liked that you showed both methods of dying and cant wait to see them crocheted or knitted into something wonderful.
+Crochet Cavalier thank you! I had a lot of fun with it!
Hi, hope your well? I am a new viewer! 👋 youtube recomended your channel, i love your podcasts, (i am subscribed and now watching all your other podcasts) im a keen crocheter but love all things yarny! 😁 ive just watched this dying vid with my 6yr old daughter, we loved both the skeins and im now on amazon looking for kool aid, definitly something wed like to do together this year! Thanks for the vid. 😍
Oh how cute that she watched along with you! Let me know how you get on, it smells lovely! 😃
I happened upon your video quite by accident as I was watching other videos on dyeing yarn and I have to comment on your video because I thought you did a marvelous job! You made it seem effortless and as if you were experienced in this process. I was very impressed and I had to subscribe and smash the like button so I can come back and see what else you're doing! You have given me some more confidence to try this out for -It looks like loads of fun! Thanks for sharing! Happy Knitting and Crocheting and Dyeing, of course!
+Marie Hahn - thank you Maria! What a lovely thing to say 😊 It was fun to do and honestly really simple, using the Kool Aid made it feel more relaxed and "safe" to do and I was really pleased with the results! Definitely worth trying it :) I'm really glad you enjoyed my podcast, Ali xx
I bought some yarn and the kids and I will be trying to dye it this week for Easter. I am going to let them watch this video then we are going to have some fun! Thank you for posting! By the way, did you ever knit or crochet anything with the yarn you dyed? If so, please share on one of your podcasts. I know you did this right after Christmas and you might have shared it already. I am a little behind on watching your podcasts even though I think I have watched them all. I really love your podcasts by the way.
I love how you dyed these skeins Ali!!!💜💚💛💙❤
I really enjoyed watching this. I've wanted to dye my own yarn for a while but as I live in a small flat with an open plan and kitchen and I have small children I was worried about using dyes. I'd seen the dying kit on Rosies' store and now that I've seen the results, I may get one for myself. I love the vibrancy of the hand painted one and look forward to seeing how they knit up.
I am really glad you enjoyed it! I actually did some more dyeing with my two daughters the weekend after making this video - we put down plenty of newspaper, lol! They loved it - they did the creative bit, all the yarn painting, and I did the "boring" heating bit. Then when it cooled they loved unwrapping it from the cling film. Lovely crafty fun :) x
Ali great video , I think it my turn now to dye yarn, so far I've not been able to find kool aid anywhere, but I expect I can get some on the Internet, you are funny, you say you would not want to drink it if it dyes yarn, beetroot!!!!!!! You eat that don't you 😎😎🇩🇰
Susanne - try Amazon for Kool Aid! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💕
@@LittleDropsofWonderful thanks I will, I'm really excited to try this, im going home to Denmark on Monday, but I hope my mum will let me do it at her house, enjoy your Easter break, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Friday. Love Susanne.
Hi, this was such an interesting video, thanks! I've toyed with the idea of dyeing for a while but hadn't got round to working out how to do it! Your two skeins look so pretty!
+Eldenwood Craft - ah, you will love it Emma! It's so much fun! Definitely worth a try with a bit of Kool Aid! xx
Great job, the colors are brilliant !☺️
Thank you Monique - I had a lot of fun with this :) x
Thoroughly enjoyed that! It makes me want to dye some yarn!
Thanks Ali, I bought some Kool Aid sachets on line. Thanks too for the tip re sweet shops - was visiting my daughters in Brighton recently and found that Caramella in the lanes stocks some flavours. Now awaiting yarn and the fun to begin!
I am so pleased you found some Jacqueline! You will now have so much fun dying some yarn, and the best part is it smells gorgeous! :) Let me know how you get on xx
Good job, messing about! And nice slippers!
😄 why thank you! xx
Like the colors
Great vid! I'm going to be dying for the first time soon and I definitely want to try with Kool Aid.
Thank you! Good luck with the dyeing, it’s great fun and smells yummy! x
Found that very interesting & enjoyable thank you for sharing
Thanks Sue! Are you going to give it a try? x
Awesome video thank you!
I love loom kniting
I enjoyed your video. I want to try the process too. For the yarn in the pot if water how long do you heat it for and how long do you wait to start coloring it? I can't wait to begin!
That's great. I think your colors came out really well. I've dyed using food coloring and I made it self striping. 👍🏻😊
+Victoria Williams wow self striping would be fun to try! x
Little Drops of Wonderful You can check out my process here. ourlifeinidaho.blogspot.com/2010/04/having-fun-with-yarn.html?m=0
Kool Aid now makes their flavors in a concentrate - little squirt bottle. Maybe you could use that directly instead of having to mix the colors beforehand. Bristol, Indiana USA.
+TheFuzzyPenguin - thanks for the tip! It’s hard to get Kool Aid here - I got some on Amazon and some from an American sweet shop :) x
Thanks
Fun video!!
Thank you! x
I love using ty dye
pretty yarn.
+Sherraine Thompkins thank you! x
Wow brilliant 👍🏻💕😃
So much fun! :)
Using a tea strainer would be a lot easier than a spoon for the dry powders, and a eye dropper for the liquid
Ros Lyle. West Australia
That’s such a good idea! Will definitely try that next time, thank you! xx
Thanks so cool
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it! x
i have to keep adjusting sound back and forth, your voice is soft but then the music blasts disproportionately loud into my earphones. However very nice presentation and end product. I like the way you squished it onto the plate. Wondering how you got the pastel, were they both the same wool yarn? I think you diluted it more or did you just apply less?
+BarbaraL Lowell - I will try to adjust the background music to 70% or so next time to see if that helps :) Thanks for letting me know!
I think I was more cautious with the dye when I used it in the pot so I probably used a bit less than when I applied it directly to the yarn I think xx
Where did you buy your plain white skeins from ? I'm having trouble finding them x
+Amy Loveridge - I got them on eBay - I think the seller was Yarn Undyed, who also have a website. I need to get more and I've been browsing World of Wool, which looks quite good too x
This is such a kool idea! See what I did there 😂?
Enjoyed Video than you x
Looks fun, want to try - where do you buy Kool Aid in the UK?
Hi Jacqueline - I got mine from Amazon I think, but I’ve seen it on eBay too and in those old fashioned sweet shops you sometimes see about. They also sell it at my local shopping centre (Bluewater) in the American sweet shop xx
Maybe 😱
What type of yarn were you using?
Hi - it was just an undyed 75% wool 25% nylon yarn I think. Very basic from eBay 😃

Thank you. I love this technique! I liked and subscribed.
Couldnt watch the video.....bothered my vision with all that movement.
