The announcement came during a joint press conference in Niamey, the capital, where the American and Nigerien militaries laid bare the details of the forced departure. Nigerien Colonel Major Mamane Sani Kiaou triumphantly announced, "This June 7 flight by the US Air Force's C-130 Globemaster III from Niamey base 101 marks the start of a series of several wide-body rotations for the repatriation of personnel and equipment in accordance with the Niger agreement."
