I really liked the look of that finished headboard, but I’d be a little worried about wood movement on it. In my climate, those jointed boards would move quite a bit - like an inch or more at that massive width. The frame pieces you added at a 90 degree angle to the jointed boards would definitely give out over time.

I'm short one bed frame in spare bedroom this looks perfect. I would like to put a trundle under twin frame. Do u think that is possible? I recommend your site to friends that build furniture.
It is pretty low for a trundle, so mods would need to be made.

I presume that Montessori toddler bed be roughly half of the twin bed plan?
So would you need the slats if your using a box spring. Still trying to decide which one of your beds I'm going to build.😄
No but with a box spring it would get really tall

I'd say at least a few hundred pounds. You can add legs underneath for more support as needed.

Is the wood pine?
the headboard is spruce (locally grown and milled) and the base is fir (whatever was available at the hardware store)
