Just finished this build and OMG! I’m soooo happy with how this turned out. I recently purchased a King bed after having a Queen for most of my life and was in need of a bed frame. After having the traditional box spring and low to the ground metal frame, I realized I wanted something with more storage so began the hunt. I searched for a solid 2 weeks for something that was pretty, didn’t cost $500+, and also one that would be sturdy enough for my fiancé, my plus size self, our 2 dogs, and our brand new mattress. When I came across this built I thought it was perfect as I am a DIY lover myself. The plans were extremely easy to follow and the measurements were spot on. If you’re looking for a simple project this is the one. Total cost as of Dec. 2021 $120 for the wood $20 for the pocket hole jig (as this was my first time using one) $15 for the stain and accessories, and roughly $10 for the screws/nails making the total for me $155 🤩
Also plus, I learned how to use a miter saw for this one so all around 10/10

Great instructions. I built this this weekend. I adjusted the measurments/cuts a little bit making it 1 inch bigger (overall), 1/2 inch on each side and end. Slats are still hidden but a little bit of the wood shows and looks nice when made up. Thanks for the plans! Next up, nightstands and a basic headboard! Also from Ana!

First of all, I'm a huge fan and thank you for your amazing DIY plans/ideas. I purchased a King and a Full bed-in-a-box mattress and needed 2 new bed frames. With your help, I built both in a day and spent approx. $250 on materials at HD. I chose the Varathane Worn Navy finish (similar to "Cape Cod Blue") and the results were fantastic. There were 2 modifications that I made to your design plans:
    1. I used heavy-duty bed frame brackets instead of pocket holes to connect the 2 side frames to the headboard and footboard. This allowed me to transport BOTH the King and Full bedframes to the upstairs bedrooms by MYSELF. It was a game changer!
    2. I increased the height of the 4 corner legs to 18"H. This allowed for amazing new storage space and safe space for our cats. Note that I added skirting on 3 sides to hide the storage/cats.

My recommendation to any of you building is to use wood glue or construction adhesive on every slat before nailing. This is to prevent future squeaking. Would also add to the corner pieces as well.

Love your videos. If I may make a small suggestion? For those of us who are really unfamiliar with the terms and techniques of the different kinds of joints you were making, it would help so much if you would pause for just a few seconds between each step and show us a close up of what you just did. Like when you cut the joints into the 4X4's to slip the 2X6's into (is that even what you did)? It would help so much if you would just show a clear close up of each step you create to totally bring us into... ''Okay, I see what you just did, now along with the cut list you provide, I think I can do this''. I don't think it would mess up the flow of your videos and would add a Whole New Level of Professionalism to your already Awesome videos. Either way - Thank you for making these Really Cool videos and for sharing them with us.

That bed seems bomber. Only question I have is, for the center support, thoughts on putting a short 2x4 support directly beneath connected to the one screwed into the side? Right more it looks like the screws get stressed with the center weight rather than lumber straight down (with screws just for stabilizing).

Thanks for the great plan. I do have one question. On the written instructions, you mention to reduce the side and top/bottom 2x6s by 7". I am assuming this is accounting for the two 4x4s. However, since the 2x6s are inset by 3/4", would it be 5" that we would need to reduce the mattress width and length by? I just want to be sure I'm understanding. Thanks.

My 3-yr old keeps coming to our bedroom a few times a week recently telling us how comfortable "our bed" is, so it sounds like she's ready for her first twin sized bed. Was perusing IKEA and Wayfair, then I said to myself that I bet Ana has a real simple, solid wood bed I could take on before Christmas next week :) Mine was solid wood and simple when I was a boy and it last easily till I got to college, so my daughter should have the same. Thanks again!
Also, did you sand the cuts before assembly and fill in nail holes before staining?

Ana White...delivering again! I am sitting here watching video after video...and every other bed has either poor esthetics, or poor construction methods...The missing link for me was using the 1x2 to trim the frame thereby giving you the right spot to hold the slats. When I see someone screwing on a pieice of 2x2 to hold the slats, I just don't like that at all...but THIS build, seems to have it all, esthetics AND strength!

O.K. Ana ! You And your Hubby needs to step it up a Notch ! How about Making a Ole School Bakers Cabinet ! Back in " The Day" I don't know if everybody had em But here In the Appalachian Mountains My Grand ma and all her Kin and Buddies had what was called and Bakers Cabinet ! They were about the size of a China Cabinet ,,, Maybe about 6' 6" tall ,,, probable 4' wide and probably 2' deep on the bottom cabinet and transistioned to 12 at the top ! But heres the Kicker instead of Cabinet Doors on the bottom opening left or right ,,the Door Hinged from the Bottom and Layed out to about a 45degree with a metal "V" trough to hold Flour,,,the Other side for sugar or Corn meal ,,, some were Skinny troughs so the Cabinet may of had 3 choices ,,, Some had a long drawer across the front for Pie Pans and cooking utensils. The side transition from the bottom cabinet to the top was usually scrolled or ornate or some were ornate wrought iron ! Now the The top had smaller Cabinet doors and one shelf inside . The doors however were either copper or tin and filled with little small air hole in some sort of pattern as was some of the sides in order for fresh pie's ,,,bread etc. to cool without flys or roving hands getting to them !! But the top of the Bottom Cabinet is where you prepared your Cake mixes or pies , or cooking items ! usually the edge of that Piece was also scrolled and fancy ! As good as you and your hubby is at designing ! You start making those and you'd stay sold Out !

I know that pocket holes are easy but I would not trust a few 2" screws to hold up the rigeurs of most beds. They need a bed bolt connection and hopefully tenons. There is no better way. Time to sidestep the pockethole jig for some better methods.
