- This nice clock we have had for years now. At the time of recording this, I was not sure if this was from 1979 like the plate says, or after 1990 when we moved into the Long Island house. My mom has confirmed. It IS indeed from 1979. Awesome that it's that vintage!
It is set to the Whittington chime. What I like about this clock is that the pendulum is nice and simple. Many today seem to be WAY too fancy, but then again, it's not like we have been shopping for grandfather clocks in recent years, so the simple ones could still be out there.
I always really liked these Grandfather clocks, just something amazing and surreal about them, almost spiritual. Beautiful piece, something to be admired as practically part of the family.
Same!
Very nice clock. I have a 70s emperor clock that my grandmother gave me. Nothing better than having one of these.
Oh definitely. These things are quite nice to have!
I bought this same clock at an Estate sale in 2017. The "Gift Plate" on it states "Happy Father's day, 1980". From the time I got it moved and set
up in our home it has run perfect. I don't know anything about the service history, but someone loved this clock and I plan to love it a while longer.
Oh yeah these things are great. A little TLC and they go for years.
Hello Sir I am planning on buy one exactly the same, do you remember how much did you pay for it ?
Westminster in D major
Whittington and Winchester in E minor
Hour strike in G major
Yeah on whittington, st micheals and westminster chimes the :15 and last part of :45 chimes are just the hammers going in a row (unless its westminster on a triple chime clock, then its just 4 hammers but if its a westminster only clock, they go in a row)
Yeah I kinda like the simplicity of that!
I have 2 Ethan Allen Clocks, 1 70's (from my Wife's family) and 1 80's (from my Family) I am guessing. They need to go
That clock is spectacular!
Thanks a lot!
Dang that clock sounds so good wish I could have heard the Westminster chimes maybe someday soon great video 😁👍
Thanks a lot for watching!
@@Sharkie626 of course I’m actually getting a ridgeway with the same movement so Your video got me super excited 👍👍
Beautiful clock and awesome video. Even though I grew up in a house with a grandfather clock, I never knew how they looked or worked on the inside.
You can imagine my excitement when I saw that for the first time as a kid!
Beautiful time piece! Very nice sounding chimes! Can't go wrong with the metal rods. I also like the simple pendulum.
I got my Grandpa's 1976 Seth Thomas grandfather clock in 2011, after he passed, and very proud to have it. My chains, and weights are identical to your Mom's, but my pendulum weight is a bit more ornate. It just has Westminster chimes though, and also has removable cloth covered side panel inserts.
I've oiled the bushings on the movement once, and probably need to do that again soon.
Yeah the rods will last for years, and they have been already! The Westminster chine is actually how I learned that the notes were different on this clock, because I said "Wait, that chime doesn't sound like that." But I guess in some way, it worked out!
I have that same exact grandfather clock!!!, so cool to see another one just like it, the only thing that is a little different compared to mine is that the chimes are a bit higher on this one, mine are a little lower, we have had it for so many years.
Oh nice! Yeah these chimes do sound "different", but I really like it that way.
The chimes on that clock are beautiful!
Thanks! I really like how they sound on this one.
Once a person acclimates to having chiming clocks in their house they actually help the person fall asleep because it becomes a signal that they are in their own home.
That does make sense. It's nice to be used to something like this!
Beautiful clock! I love it!
Thanks! It's great how long they last too.
Sharkie626 i’ve got a chiming hermle wall clock, that i’ve had for nearly 8 years
@@Rhythmman14 Oh I love those little wall clock boxes with an actual pendulum. I wouldn't mind having something like that some day!
Sharkie626 the thing i like about it is that under the dial you can see the hammers playing the chimes
Bro sounds like Ray Romano
I get many of those!
Pretty cool clock. You should hear the chime of my 1960's mantle clock.
Oh man those are awesome! I'd love to have one some day.
@@Sharkie626 I made a video of it, if you want me to show you.
@@HomerBart7 Sure!

Rack and snail which means each hour the rack drops in to the movement when it strikes the hour. The closer to 12 is the louder the rack drop is. BTW The fly fans are what we see spinning while the clock chime sounds.
Ah that's some pretty cool info. Thanks for that!
@@Sharkie626 Your welcome and I think the chain system is simple. I would use something like this instead of cables. However some Cable driven clocks are also great.
I think it would be super cool if there were musicians who manually play songs on grandfather clock chime rods. I wonder how people would react to it
I think some would enjoy it!
You should check out the Seth Thomas Antique in Downtown Northampton, Massachusetts sometime soon and film a video of it.
Possibly Not sure when I will be in MA again though.
I always thought the chime on that clock sounded a bit different, this indeed has conformed it. Not bad different, just different. I don't think you showed me there are rods that it hits, with the side panels off, unless I completely blanked that part out, but I would have remembered seeing the "governors" spin up, and I don't.
But it's all so _mechanical_ in nature, like can't you just have Siri tell you the time? I mean like, sometimes I don't even want to know the time because then I realize I've been playing video games for the last 63 hours without leaving my Millennial bedroom! But like as long as Uber can bring me my Mickey D-- oh did I tell you about his friends Donald and Pluto in FL hun?
Seriously though, it's great to actually see something mechanical happening. Actual hammer hitting chimes, when and where do you see that now? And now that it's confirmed, that clock and I are the same age.
I know I mentioned to you that my dad built a clock that has chimes and a pendulum. The mechanism was an off-the-shelf variety as I understand it, he built the case. Mounts on the wall. He hasn't run it for many years. There's actually a mirror on the back, and over the years the adhesive let go and it tilted forward and has been left that way. That clock has the absolute coolest sounding chime I've even heard, nothing ornate, just a "bing-bong" sound. And you can really hear the mechanism in that one, each click of the pendulum and everything else. My dad also installed a separate pull-chain in case you wanted to ring the chime, I guess he did that just because he could, you know.
Bing bong *whistle* goodbye sir!
I might have shown you the clock way back in 2014. Seems like that was something I would do for the first time you came by.
Nah most Millennials probably just game until they pass out! I already game so little these days as you already know, but I really don’t consider it a bad thing!
I actually love those wall clocks with pendulums. Maybe some day I could buy something like that. I guess that 2009 Seiko clock on my wall is the more modern electronic version of that.
"Oh well I gotta tell you hun, I got one where Mickey comes out and laughs every hour." "Yeah, he's laughing at you for wasting your money on this clock!"
If I’m correct I think that it’s has a urgos movement I have a grandfather clock to
That sounds interesting. It is a fantastic clock for sure!
Ya I own a grandfather clock as well it use to have a urgos movement but then it broke some how it hat Westminster saint Michael an wichester
That has a Urgos triple chime movement
Ah it has a name? That's cool! It works well!
Ah I was expecting you to make a video about this when seeing your generator video!
Ahh, now I see this after replying to your other comment. Haha
Sharkie626
Yeah! Bur you did not do Westminister tune:(
@@beedslolkuntus2070 It's used all the time, so I figured it was well-known enough.
Sharkie626
I agree, But it is the most beautiful tone :)
Nice clock.
Thanks! It's great to have.
@@Sharkie626 I know you like vintage items, you should check my radio out from the 70's.
Wow. This one actually resembles the grandfather clock I mentioned last night. Biggest difference is the illustration and diagrams, which the one we've kept doesn't have. But the pendulum is almost identical. I think there might be two extra chimes. Or might have been at one point. I'll have to check when it isn't covered in a towel and being used as a bed by the cats.
And yes, definitely different notes, though admittedly it's been years since the last time I heard it in use. The tune heard in this video sounds like one I've heard in a cathedral on a rare occasion. Maybe a few old clock towers as well.
It’s definitely more unique in terms of common chime sounds! It does give more melody I feel to the Whittington chime.
