What a contrast to the earliest Nissans. Or Datsuns as they were then They were reliable and came with all the extras but were terrible rust buckets. They used to say a Datsun didn't so much rust as dissolve.
@@arthuritchybollix5064 That's true! But they appealed to people who weren't interested in cool cars, but just wanted something that would start every morning and get them to work. Unlike many cars of the time (hello British Leyland).
I have one....Exactly the same model. I've had her for years and she has never let me down. She's now as of typing this, 27 years old and still going strong. It's such a pity Nissan don't make them like this anymore.
I don't care what anyone says but these are brilliant little cars, very good on petrol, sturdy on the road and reliable. Rust was the only let down but it had more pluses than minuses.
My neighbour used to have a 92 model Sunny 1.3 5-door hatch. The car never skipped a beat, completely faultless until the bitter end. It even outlived it's owner by about 3 years. It was eventually totalled by his grandson in 2013, who was able to roll it after hitting a curb in the city centre (while drunk).
1991 was the year I passed my driving test and I had a 1982 Nissan Cherry which was a lovely first car with good fuel consumption, and cheap insurance for a 21 year old.
Great car , never had problem with it since my father bought it long time ago 1991 . I't is 1.4 16v 75 hp with carburetor.4dr with 419000 km on the clock . regular change of oil and no bigger issues except with carburetor solenoid lately .
@neil7090 I'm irish, because it's so dark and rainy here all the time, we've actually evolved to the point where our brains actually work under such undesirable weather conditions.
As regards that particular generation Sunny; the three-door was (almost) box-shaped, whereas the five-door had a protruding rear windscreen - à la Peugeot 309.
The equivalent sentra range in the US in 1991 was highly regarded as opposed to this drab review, and the 140hp SER was a scorcher in those days. It was considered the poor man's BMW and even toyota and honda could not keep up with it.
This was known as the Pulsar here in Australia, it was built in Nissan's Australian factory in Melbourne from late 1991 to October 1992, when the factory closed, and the Pulsar was fully imported from Japan from 1993.
@@comfy_rwds Also we had the mid range Pulsar Q variant with those two engine choices, in 1993 after the factory closure and the switch to the imported range the Q variant was dropped, but demand saw it reinstated as a limited edition model in 1993, then back full time in 1994. We also had the keyless entry with immobiliser and alarm on the 2.0 variants, that got the axe with the switch to the imported model.
This generation Sentra (same platform) was an excellent car, with-in the US-standard variable intake valve timing and a timing chain and fun handling. A shame it wasn't well-received by the market, being, along with the Protege (323), outsold by Corolla and Civic at higher prices for no real reason.
I don't know why everyone says these are dull to drive. My 1.4i handles really well, has a sweet gearbox, is comfortable to drive and is fairly quick. I don't find mine boring to drive at all, very responsive and lively.

I drive the company's old sunny, i think its 95 to 98 model. 1.6 cc. I dont know about rust , they wouldnt mention something i guess Im 1.85 and i feel comfortable in it, kinda hard to get off though. The steering wheel has some issues, its kinda stiff and thats a major disadvantange in slow speeds.. But hey its an old car. Now what i wanted to say is that the gear box is a perfect match for the engine, ive never driven a car that works so smooth.. For an 20yo car its still fast, light, medium grip but accelerates like wind. I get that feel like im flying in it, i like it... They should make cars like this again..

At least this version of the car is better than the generation of Sunnys that it replaced in production and more interesting looking as well. Apart from that, I’m not too sure if there’s anything much Sunny about the car sadly in my opinion.
A rather dull car but bloody reliable. My uncle put 90k miles on one and the only thing he spent money on in 6 years of ownership was fuel. It was written off when a lorry driver didn't brake in time and hit it at a set of traffic lights.
The name "Sunny" was clearly meant to be ironic. It was one of the dullest and most uninspired cars ever made. Nissan Dreary or Nissan Cloudy would have been more apt. Aside from the GTi and GTR versions which were very quick, there wasn't any reason to want one. Amazing to think this came from the same company that gave us the monster Skyline GTR....
Mein Vater hatte sich damals den Sunny N14 mit dem GA14DS gekauft der lief super. Ich selber fahre heute noch meinen 1990er Primera eGT P10 mit dem SR20DE.
Only officially. In reality both imperial & metric are used & both are taught at school. In the early 1990's a middle aged & upwards generation would of only been comfortable with imperial units & Chris Goeffey would have been taught only in imperial. In 2018 younger people often use both interchangeably. Metric was encouraged by EU membership but I think it's significantly well ingrained now that Brexit will not see a return to imperial units.

The three-door Sunny was aimed at young or unmarried drivers, the four-door notchback saloon at business people, and the five-door at the family.
