The real advantage of paper money is boosting someone to imp and then getting the tech to boost everyone else to imp

But we always need meat to get to imp....
Not gold and not only 500gold.
and vietnamese never do a fast imp castle drop to get to imp earlier.
This tech need too much meat also.
This strategy seems useless in most of situations.

      @PotatoMcWhiskey 5 лет назад +9

@@Linearsteps Put it this way, this tech lets your team buy 500 gold worth of food in castle age each while still having the gold to go Imp. That could easily net you 300-600 food in an average game.

Unlike Rattan archer (Northern) which actually existed, these Imperial Skirmisher were.... not? They were just the highly specialized in guerrilla warfare (Northern) vs Chinese army, and yes, they were bunches of Rattan archers actually. I think combining 2 units into one seems to be better choice. By the way there's an interesting history about our military.
    ...
Originally we were highly specialized in closed combat and armor. We mastered forgery while the Chinese still only knew WTF was iron - believe me or simply not, arguing here is pointless. THEN, after being conquered by massive manpower and the ChuKoNu, you see the Vietnamese as the one in game.
13th~14th centuries, there was the massive adoption of gunpower weapons. That's how we fucked up the Mongols and later, the Champa/Tsiompa (our today Central part). The Ming knew guns and canons even existed only because they took our captured engineers. Khmer empires and Laos trembled before our firepower (and we even "met" the Siamese right on their soil at some point). Smoothbore gun/canon firing APFSDS steel rods to 800m, stone balls to 400m, grenade, flamethrower... you name it, we had them all.
And Western powers? They were WEAKLING to us till ~18th century. Again, believe me or simply not, you only know what YOUR history want you to know, and I know our history, no argument needed.
Their ambassadors felt like pissing in their pants when they saw Trịnh-Nguyễn or Nguyễn Ánh - Tây Sơn battles with their own eyes. Their navy knew not to fuck with our giant warships which got 66 24-pound "main" canons (of course there were more smaller ones too), at least 3-deck high carrying battle elephants inside. And their army knew messing with someone knew a mixed style of both Muay and Wushu and Wrestling wasn't that smart of an idea. Plus, we were *savages* with the tradition of eating your organs (in most cases, liver) RAW (when you were still ALIVE) if you lost.
Later on, everything felt backward, there was a great regression from losing Cambodia+Laos land and the stubbornly stupidity of our emperors... That's when the French decided to "do something". Later on, again, you see the Vietnamese as the one in game, still the same as before 13th century with the addition of obsolete smoothbore canons/guns firing stone balls which do little harm comparing to mordern rifled canons/guns...
    ...
I'm still mad because our unique unit isn't CANON ELEPHANT or GRENADIER CALVARY and yes, they were used massively.

Did you know that if we look at Elephants' historical use in warfare, the skirmisher should probably be just about the most effective unit against them? I mean, if spearmen are anti cavalry, shouldn't people who throw spears for a living also be pretty good at cavalry? :P Unfortunately, making the skirmisher good against archers, spearmen, and cavalry would be a bit OP, so understandably the developers didn't do this.

Rattan is a labour-intensive form of reed armour, when hardened and lacquered it can reputedly resist steel weapons. A favourite of the South East Asian armies due to it's prevalence and ease of wear in the hot and humid climate, it remained in use until the early 20th century, where some Southern Chinese militias still incorporated rattan shield and sword troops.

Although they miss Parthian Tactics and Husbandry, thanks their HP they are very pop efficient units (like you make CA with Persians even you miss Bracer).
In the Castle Age the Cav Archers have no draw back, in fact they have more HP there than everyone else's.
Now the revealed locations kinda make sense and for the blood lines you have to build stable, that helps transition into elephants later.

    • @Chenla
      @Chenla 5 лет назад +2

They are mobile and population efficient, they may not be resource wise efficient, but pop yes
Like they are your biggest HP archers you have, so with the same numbers against something else they win.
Of course except some raiding early, they doesen't make much difference before late game, but people may oversee this option and I making them know it is there.

@@Chenla Maybe it's just my personal playstyle, but I apart from their speed, I never found cav archers any specific use that other units couldn't accomplish just as well. Except for killing villagers quickly, but most of my opponents usually defend their economy by the time I get there with cavalry archers, and I do the same. If I want some eco damage done, I go for scouts or archers (sometimes a skirmisher-pike combo) and go for it in Feudal.

I believe their reveal enemy starting location bonus is considered as an indirect economy bonus that helps at laming. With Vietnamese you don't have the risk wasting time searching for the enemy if you want a quick boar steal - you can right away go for the lame. Maybe that is the intended eco bonus: having a better chance of getting 2 more boars than your opponent.

Vietnamese basically don't have Stables and Barracks and their Siege Workshops are average at best so...
      Cheaper Archery Ranges?
Even if you give them a 50% discount that is, like, 50 wood in Feudal and 50 more in Castle
Then you're getting a whole lotta value out of it in Imperial...the time where wood is in thousands
      Seems quite bad, innit?

@@The-jy3yq Since Definitive Edition they have economic upgrades cost no wood... Giving them a final bonus of about 1500 I think in terms of wood saved based upon only missing the second Gold Mining upgrade which really you don't get anyway (better to get both stone mining & only the first gold mining).

I'm a bit sad you didn't mention the vietnamese bombard tower and how it can change the gaming dynamics for this civ. personally, this one tech changes my entire mindset on vietnamese and just seems like such an interesting boost and almost a spice-up. it enables bbt pushing, and with archers and elephants, entire line of infantry, and they're always nice to have.

    Nowadays the Vietnamese got:
+eco upgrades cost no wood=1350 wood
    + Husbandry available
+ Papermoney food cost reduced from 800 to 500
Like wow I never played them, but they are really good now aren't they?

Edit: After finish watching the whole video, I think when you give the Vietnamese A- on the archer line, you're forgeting the Carvary Archer with Bloodline and extra Hp (of course they do not get the Imperial upgrade for extra armor and extra damage to pikeman but the extra Hp make up for it anyway). I think they deserve an A because not only foot archer, carvary archer of them is really stand out and have a place for them.

I thought Indian Elephant Archers beat rattan archers every time with equal resources though that might be because of AI micro and the fact there's more rattan to bump into each other. Actually I did the tests before the latest buffs to vietnamese so maybe that has something to do with it too.
Showing the tech tree and fighting at the same time was cool.
One interesting thing you could expand on is the cavalier/paladin video. When is it worth it to get the upgrade for other units like xbows? Galleys? etc... vs weaker versions of those units? What about for blacksmith tests?

As a Vietnamese, i must say the kind of architecture in this game for Vietnam is an insult for our culture. Don't know did the dev just ignorant or they didn't fucking care at all. Our ancient architectures are similar to China, Japan, Korea ' architectures, not some Indosphere architecture alike in this game.

If you're updating some civ overviews and happen to be in the neighborhood of the Persians, can you do some testing on their team bonus? I know knights are already pretty good against archers and it doesn't necessarily change that match up, but does it have an effect in, say, a mangudai vs paladin situation? Does it help take down plumed archers with higher hp? Idk, just something I was wondering about...

I’ve noticed you’ve made several videos comparing units that are similar to each other (i.e gbetto vs throwing axeman, samurai vs champion) and they fair in different situations. I was wondering if you’d be interested in doing a more in-depth comparison between other units that have a similar roles compared to other units. The ones that come to mind are the Jaguar Warriors vis-à-vis the Teutonic Knights vis-à-vis the Champion vis-à-vis the Samurai (maybe the Huskarl too). Another one could be the Paladin vis-à-vis Boyar and Cataphract. Just food for thought. Great video as always! Keep up the good work!

I'd love a video on the best counters for unique units. For example what best beats organ guns, war wagons, Conquistadors. Even best counter for cav archers-are skirms or halbs better? And cataphracts are anti-infantry, are halbs still the best counter? A video or two for all those moments when players are confused whats the best counter. Love the videos keep it up!
