Just wanted to say a big thank you. It’s a year now that I’ve been smoking a pipe, and you’ve been my biggest source of helpful information.
You are welcome my friend
Mr Muttenchop,
Thank You for all you do and have done for the community!
🔥🔥🔥🔥 just cracked open a tin from 2018. In the past, I really didn't understand or enjoy this, so I jarred it airtight and decided to let it age. Glad I came back to it.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Escudo is one of my favorite Navy blends. I love the peppery hit you hit you get from it and how the sweetness comes in to mellow it all out. When you can get your hands on it. I buy a few tins to keep on standby. Like Muttnchop said the price has definitely gotten ridiculous. But it's definitely worth a shot at least once
Great review as always. Difficult to get in England, but Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls available and I believe same or very similar. Very enjoyable smoke! 😊😊😊😊
I have a tin on its way right now. As soon as it comes in, I'll leave a review. I have recently become a fan of perique, so Im excited. Thank you sir.
🙂🙂🙂🙂 I’m a vaper smoker and I keep a tin of this blend on hand in my rotation always. Now I love the pop’s of sour I get along with the pepper of the perique and then the sweetness of the Virginia comes in it’s just a fantastic flavor profile it’s definitely a blend that rewards the slow smoker!
👍👍👍👍 Delicious blend. This is one of my favorites. Perfect moisture; deep, delightful flavors,; no tongue bite; lovely room note. Cheers!
👍👍👍👍. Good ol’ Escudo! I would definitely give it a 5 if the price wasn’t so high. There are plenty of other vapers just as good but they are much cheaper. That being said, I always have a jar of Escudo on my shelf. The tin note is always sweet, you really get the fruity notes right off the bat. It’s always a little moist in my opinion so i always rub it out and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before I load it up. I always get the sweet, spices, and bready flavors while smoking it. Many people complain that it has a lot of nicotine , but I’ve never gotten a buzz from it. The room note is very mild. I would highly recommend Escudo for new pipe smokers, but if price is an issue then go with something like elizabethan from Peterson. As always great review Muttnchop!
Thank you for all of your videos. It was because of you. I got back into pipe smoking and now my wife smokes with me in our new pipe room. We just started our RUclips channel, thank you and Merry Christmas.
👍👍👍👍 When I think of Escudo, I think of premium tobacco. Fresh, pure unadulterated tobacco at its finest. When you first crack open the tin and see and smell those dark pressed coins, you know you’re getting a quality product. It is pricey, but in a rotation of other blends, the cost is worth it. Simply a great smoke.
Just as a post script, I wanted to thank you for your contribution to the pipe smoking community. There are certainly many voices out there making videos on the subject, but yours has a authenticity that is unmatched. I’m sure I speak for many others when I say, you are a person I would thoroughly enjoy having a pipe with sometime.
⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
Had to use the anchors given the connotation in the name and my naval service. So this will likely become a 5 once I try it with some extensive age on it. Yes it is pricey unfortunately, but you can see why. It smokes beautifully. If packed properly, it will give you a continuous steady smoke with no relights. It will start to build some excess juices, so will need to run a pipe cleaner through in between at times. Other than that it’s great. Again regarding the pricing, just use sparingly as a treat like Muttnchop says!
Thanks!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
To be Escudo is the quintessential VaPer blend. I never have to dry it out, and it’s never too dry. It’s ready as is and I think it genuinely could be a great beginning tobacco. I will agree that it is a little expensive for a single tin of tobacco, but always worth keeping a tin or two.
@rileyh212, In my opinion, Rattarys Old Gowrie is quite a much better,or Hal of The Wyn, thanks to the minor addition of Kentucky fired leaf
Mutton,
I wanted to write on your most recent video that I just enjoyed my first hour and fifteen minute pipe bowl. There is a tobacconist near me that carries pipe blends and cigars but not pipes. Anyway, I used all the tips I learned here at the YTPC. Packing looser and smoking slower/cooler is the secret! I mixed some wet black Cavendish with a drier English blend. Delicious. I'm going to get a smaller pipe for nights that I have less time. Thanks for this awesome channel!
Cheers,
Jordan in NJ
Found a tin tucked in the back of my cellar and man was this stuff good. Had a very tangy but fruit forward note for the most of the smoke. With pepper coming in every so often.
👍👍👍👍 would be 5 if price was not so high
😊😊😊😊😊 I this is my first vaper blend, I’m really grateful you broke that term down. I really enjoyed this tobacco blend, but I only have English blends and aromatic to compare it to. I’m trying to break away from aromatics just a bit. Kinda like when you first start drinking black coffee, it isn’t necessarily all that great. In regards to tobacco, I’ve been using cream and sugar and not really tasting the coffee for what it is. I’ve smoked quite a few aromatics and then decided to go straight to heavy English blends. It was like going from extra cream and extra sugar to burnt gas station coffee. So this was a nice treat for me.
This is, bar none, my all-time favorite summertime tobacco. I've got half a dozen or so tins cellaring, and limit myself to smoking one tin per year, usually just on sunny Sunday afternoons on my back porch. I've tried quite a few VaPers, and while some come close, none have matched it. In my opinion, Escudo is the gold standard for VaPers. Thanks for the review!
Also these types of VaPers escudo. Luxury navy flake etc.. are very subtle and must be sipped. Smoke slowly with as little heat as possible. You don’t just blast the lighter to it and puff hard . The secret is in the slow sipping
🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 throughout the years, Escudo has been & still is one of my top three favorites.
What are your other two. What do you think about Orlik Golden Sliced?
@@ironleatherwood The other two are Peterson University Flake & Dunhill London Mixture (no longer in production).
Haven’t tried Orlik Golden Sliced but do like Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky (no longer in production). How does Golden Sliced compare to Escudo?
❄❄❄ This was fine, but didn’t make an enormous impact on me. I expected more since it was also so highly recommended by the Carolina Pipe Cottage. The room note is very nice, but the flavor is otherwise fairly flat. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t delight me the way other similar blends do. For example, I prefer Orlik Golden Sliced.
1/2 I just cracked the tin, and wow...
Loved the video. Looking forward to trying it. I am a novice pipe smoker and enjoy your teaching videos.
Gid bless.
😊😊😊😊 First blend club that I smoked along with your video. Always enjoy these videos. Keep ‘em up.
My favorite!!! Thanks for the BC Review.
😮😅😊 it’s a good smoke but at its price point unless it’s on sale…I will try others
This stuff is great..thanks for the recommendation.
🧙♂🧙♂🧙♂🧙♂I love it...I just fold it and stuff it and smoke it in a large pipe. Very nice.
Looking forward to trying this! The price has prevented me from trying it in the past but I think it’s time. Cheers!
Great video! Escudo Navy Deluxe is my favorite!
I’m going to have to try that. Do you have a video on room notes of varieties of tobacco? For instance the smell of burley vs Virginia vs oriental etc. There’s many blends I love the smell of while I’m smoking them, however I often wonder if non smokers around me are getting the same smelling enjoyment as I am.
Love this channel. I was pricing out some of this tobacco, and then saw you had a video on it!
I believe it has much more V. Driving the bus indeed. Great job
I enjoy Escudo very much. I've been smoking it for a year.
😮😮😮😮 I love this blend for my Vaper days
😋😋😋😋😋 Love Escudo. While I'll rub out the coins from time to time I usually take two, stack them, then roll them up in a cylinder and shove em into my pipe. Regardless it is a quality blend. Thanks for all of your reviews and blend club videos :)
Love it but indeed the price is somewhat expensive. But noneteless smoking less and enjoy it 👍
Muttnchop, have you had Mac Baren’s Royal Twist Deluxe? If not gotta order some up!
I can only smoke this blend when I first wake up for some reason, otherwise I'll start sweating like I ate a chili pepper 🌶 ♨️🥵
The flavor for me was like smoking a good cigar while snorting black pepper up my nose.
😊😊😊😊😊. If I could give 8 I would. This is maybe my all time favorite, with the possible exception of Maltese Falcon. But if I could afford it, I could be a happy guy with nothing but this to enjoy.
Watching your videos while smoking is the best❤
🙂🙂🙂I gave it a three, it was kind of flat to me. Not a lot of taste for me. I can smoke it, but not my favorite. I can taste some creaminess. 🙂🙂🙂 Mrs. Whitetail, same experience.
Im confused about all the different tobaccos out there I liked old toby/ tombigbee except it was a little wet but after drying out burned great. Do you have any recommendations that is close to that? Thankyou sir
BriarBlues loves it.
I've never understood the term"vapor". If it's Virginia and perique tobacco blend, wouldn't it be "Viper"?
The abbreviation for the state of Virginia is Va. i think that’s where the Va. part comes from, but that being said I think “Viper” is a better fit because Perique does have a degree of bite to it.
@@MuttnchopPiper plus it will put a good bit of distance from the pipe community and the vaping community. Start the trend muttnchop!
😀😀 - it burns hot. I’m a savinelli fan, and have tried in a 320, 673 and a 311, as well as some cobs, including a country gentleman and pride, all burned hot. Not sure if it is the Perique or what, but always end up with bite. Orlik, capstan gold and opening night perform well in any pipe for me, regardless of pipe. Might be the Perique, technique or maybe too moist. My tin was from 2022 (opened at the same time-in a mason jar). Appreciate any recommendations to improve my experience!
I recommend you open the tin and let it air out a day. Also try to slow down your puffs. If it still burns then perhaps it’s your body chemistry disagreeing with the blend.
Come back to Lakewood Ohio!
🌝🌝🌝🌛
The first time I
smoked escudo, I was a rookie piper who had a sprint to the finish cadence and never considered the nic hit of different tobaccos.
Ouch! 😵💫
I learned a lot from that bowl and since have slowed down and have enjoyed much more.
How does it compare to Orlic golden slice?
greeting from China! Love your videos! can i ask, does ecodo is similar or to the Peterson deluxe navy?😅
Rolls navy petrson deluxe vergnia from Brazil escudo Virginia tobacco from North Carolina the best Brazil vergnia very nice ❤
I live near Poche Perique Tobacco farm and its awesome.. want a tour?
Do they provide tours to the public or do you know someone that works there that would be willing to do a tour? - Mike
Its where the Poche Plantation house is area and they just do a basic tour when you call them.@@MuttnchopPiper
When do you announce the 2024 blend club list?
There is a video out already
👍👍👍👍
🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿 Same as others would be a 5 if the price was a little cheaper. I go for a much heavier PER in my VAPER’s if I was to say something negative about Escudo
😮😮😮😮 I am unable to join the chorus of ‘best’ or ‘king of the heap’ but this is an excellent VA/PER - it is strong, steady, and could become the ‘reference’ for comparison. Which is how I see Escudo - it is better than, it is stronger or weaker than - something else. In general, this blend is strong and full in taste. The perique is definitely present but secondary (as is usually the case) to the deep, rich Virginia.
In my view, this is not as good as Windjammer, or Fairbourne from Emerson_Southern_Forged (ESF). It is at the same level as Haddo's Delight and Chenet’s Cake. It stronger or fuller than these but whether that is a good thing or not depends on the individual. Escudo is better than Orlik Golden Sliced, and slightly better than Peretti's No. 8 Sliced, and slightly better than Stokkebye's Twilight. Escudo is way better than, say, The Beast, Three Nuns, or Stratford.
Escudo needs a day or so of open-tin drying out and an easy cadence. Escudo is clear in who it is and, as mentioned, a good reference for a VaPer. It retains a close to 3.5 out of 4 rating on Tobacco Reviews with a huge number of reviews. While I will go to it now and then, and think it deserves 4 of 5 stars on Muttnchop’s rating scale, it is not a go-to for me.
🤑🤑🤑 Escudo is a solid, but boring smoke for me. Most of the people I know who love it are ex-cigarette smokers. I prefer something more along the lines of Bayou Morning for more of a perique kick.
That's what that smell and taste is. I couldn't figure it out until you said Apricot. Thanks.
🦌 it tastes exactly what a freshly cut hay field smells like . Just not my thing
💨💨💨💨
My only problem with these reviews is that my wallet is only so big and as a new piper I'm playing catch up!
Absolutely. This is the problem with all reviews. If you want to reach out, I am more than happy to send you my list (about 130 so far) with my own rating scale. Of course, these would not be your ratings because you have different taste buds. But I find reviews tend to be too positive and they don’t compare this to that.
@@tomsmith5901 I'll accept your list, but only on the condition it comes with samples of each reviewed blend so I can compare my tastes to your reviews! XD
Dried fruit
💨💨 Escudo doesn't do it for me, I find it to be flat, boring smoke. For the money, there are far better choices than this overhyped blend.
What would you recommend for a VaPer? Interested in trying something different.
At the moment I’m enjoying Chenet’s Cake.
I personally think this blend is way over rated for the price!
You burn your shirt sir..
Please do a short video on nicotine levels and what to watch for as far as high and low potency tobacco types and blends. So us nicotine lightweights know what to look for when buying a blend. Example: i like to have a pipe for flavor, relaxing and the act of having a smoke, not to get bombed by high levels of nicotine. I hate that feeling. i like low weak blends.
