It's interesting how the seemingly gay couple starts to talk about how China would not develop like the West because China... Well, China... And the interviewer immediately steps in and brings up Confucianism, to avoid some kind of more problematic political statements. I can't imagine how stressful it must be to live in an authoritarian country...
@@magdolnavida2717 you can love China and be able to understand it’s bad areas too. It’s definitely more stressful to not have freedom of speech and never be able to truly speak your mind if it goes against the government

I am positively surprised by the answers of the men (and young men) in this video! I found them all pretty open minded and respectful towards women in their speech! That’s refreshing to hear the points of view of « common » people in the streets, it makes you realize people are much more intelligent and wise than what the discourses on internet suggest (like hateful comments including misogyny or racism or else that we can find on every social media...) Thank you Eileen for your great work!! The subjects you pick are always so interesting! 🙏👍👍👍
Some Chinese people think westerners are more "open" 开放 about marriage and relationships... It's actually not true. The vast majority are not so different from China. 开放关系 或者开放结婚 are a very small minority.

I think in terms of sexual depravity Americans are probably more open, but in the real relationship aspect people in America are even less forgiving of cheating than they sound to be
@@PlutoTheGod The big difference is that in Chinese society, I imagine that cheating would be extremely looked down upon by society, even if it's increasing. Whereas in America, the reaction to being cheated on is more like "Oh well, shit happens".

Physical or emotional, very painful to accept. If no children, leave her. If there is a child, make her get some money from her lover to fund the children living expense and tell her to continue the illicit relationship. This will hurt her.
A lot of times in this vídeo, some people say some words that are a bit different from the Pinyin, and also they often don't say the proper tones. I wonder if in Chinese we have to be so strict with pronunciation
In China. Mandarin is the official language that makes Chinese from different origins being able to communicate and understand government policies. People most people speak dialect with others from the same region. So most people have accent when speaking Mandarin. For Mandarin learners, I think that it’s better to be strict with properly pronunciation, that makes it easy for Chinese to understand you even though they do have accent.
Is there anyway you could upload the subtitles to your video that are not hardcoded into the video. I use a software called "Migaku" to capture sections of videos on youtube for later review in Anki, but I can only capture the clip if the subtitle options are enabled. One respondent used the word spiritual, but what's obvious is these people have no spiritual framework for thinking about this question. Buddhism for example would consider cheating as wrong or unskillful because it leads to suffering. Chinese seem to believe material wealth is enough for happiness in this life. In that sense, these people come across as naive in that sense. You can have cars and bridges and go to the best schools and still be unhappy. China apparently failing in maintaining a society where people can be happy.

The guy promoting the 'open relationships' is truly sad to listen to. He thinks that being faithful and exclusive to your husband or wife is 'moral and ethical bondage'. What's he in bondage to? His own filthy lusts! He calls them 'human needs'. If fidelity to your husband or wife is 'bondage', then I gladly chose it. The Day of Judgement will reveal whose bondage was best.
