Peter Thomas is my favorite narrator. This documentary is one of the best he did in the Air Power series. Peter can heard on NOVA & Forensic Files. He was a voice of a generation.
One of my Commanding Officers Action Jackson when I was in the World Famous Bounty Hunters of VF-2 during my 20 year Naval career. Great pilot, great CO
This was awesome. And to think it is from the early 90s. Imagine the footage from recent years and the new stuff they have in the works beyond the f35 joint strike fighter. Drones might seem like all the rage but we still need our pilots going strong!
A bunch of the external F-14 footage is actually VF-202 Superheats. I've seen it spliced in a few other videos, I'm wondering what the original source was.
Personally I think the days of direct aircraft dogfighting is rapidly diminishing due to modern weapons and tactics. However I am glad that the “art” of dogfighting is still practiced by western Nations, there ARE Air Forces out there that don’t have the advanced weapons and aircraft, and so will use up close tactics to try and make our advanced weapons useless. Ultimately, and again, in my opinion, one day pilots will be on the ground using drone aircraft, and eventually they will become autonomous weapons in their own right, so until that day comes, I am glad to see the human element will be present, I don’t think that autonomous aircraft can really ever be able to replicate the human brain when it comes to making human decisions, sometimes humans have to make moral, split second decisions, like whether to attack a target or not, maybe because that kind of process can’t be handled by a computer pilots will always be needed (I hope). Excellent video, thanks for sharing, interesting and informative. 👍 🇬🇧
Dog fighting skills might keep you alive. When machines are equal, pilot skills matter. But you are correct, and if you're in a dog fight, you did something wrong!
You might have the superior weapon to engage bvr but the enemy might have good ECM to mess with your missile. Dogfight is inevitable. Things like hmd cueing will make it easier for you. But again, the enemy probably have it too already.
Me gusta mucho los aviones cazaf14y otro aviones caza primera mano que diseñe y las vestimenta militares y policías internacional que jilaysak me diseño y arma que soucksan hizo
i don't understand why they did cansel the F-23 Y it was a fucking nice design, i'm sure they cut easy use this fighter for something els, no one els can do, so why frow it away when they find a good design i will not understand.
It wouldn’t do anything. Otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed filming this. It would be different if they had specifics like computer data or sensitive personal data.. We are always adapting and the fact most of the aircraft in the video are still active proves that adaptability.
I miss flying the Viper. This brings back some memories from the good old days. Thanks for uploading it.

Well, this video was produced in 1991, showing planes that were first airborne in the 1970's, so almost 50 years ago.
Not too sure this information should be accessible to the public. Our enemies can use youtube too.

Calm down, it’s not like the people who made this video gave the bad guys the black boxes that run the ECM and weapons systems.
