    The machined rings are something SH does to help with cooling the top end, the rings hold a little bit of oil to help cool the pison, they started to do this around the same time they started to adopt cross-hatching the entire inside of the sleeve. (Like OS has done for years)
    Ive seen some sleeves also have machined "scuffing" or intense cross hatch in a small section just above the transfer ports. I assume this is also an attempt at cooling. I see it on some later LRPx/SH sleeves. Mostly their race engines
    I have an LRP 30x piston/sleeve that i got sent from Todd at horizon hobby, its a modified CNC piston with cut skirt and a WHOLE bunch of sleeve work like cross hatch, port scuffing, and those machined rings its a beauty engine. Lowest idle ive ever heard. Runs super cool i had to cut the head

      The LRP 30 is probably the best LRP ever (except for the competitiion ZZ made by OS), wouldlike to see yours with the modded parts!

    Here is literature from RCtech Taiwan talking about the machined rings. Its patented by SH, thats why you wont see them in other engines. If i link the site the comment gets deleted immediately.
    In addition to the piston oil grooves, there are two oil grooves on the inside of the cylinder, which not only provide complete lubrication of the contact surface between the piston and the cylinder, but also enhance air sealing and heat dissipation

    Hey man love your videos! Very informative! I've been looking to get back into the hobby after 12 years, what engines would you recommend for a 1/8th single-speed truggy for bashing? Thanks!

    • @TastyBRC
      @TastyBRC  Год назад +1

      Thank you 🙏
      If you want a pullstart engine the argus 28 5 ports is good, the picco rebel xl is great!
      Budget Race engine: picco p3TT, P3TX, argus k3 (easy tune, very consistent) OS XZ-B v2, great engine! Probably the next engine rhat I will buy.
      If you want to spend more money.. you will have many options, I can make a very long list 😁

      @@TastyBRC Thanks man! In your opinion, are modern day 'race tier' .21 and .23 engines as good as or better than 'casual' .28 and .32 from the likes of LRP, Dynamite, Force, etc in terms of outright power? From what I can see, the basher orientated engines on sale today are the exact same engines that were on sale when I left the hobby in 2011 which doesn't seem good 😬I was hoping nitro would've progressed a lot in 12 years!
      If quality and longevity are good, I'm happy to spend up to around €330 🧐

    • @TastyBRC
      @TastyBRC  Год назад +1

      @@solitaryclusterofneurons598 Force and SH based engines (LRP, dynamite) are the exact same as they used to be 15 years ago. Race engines have evolved, and are getting better and better in terms of quality and longevity IMO but those modern engines are more linear than their predecessors, wich, from a racers point of vue, is a good thing..
      A.21 race engine (picco, OS, Reds, Argus, FX) is 10 times better than a .28 or 32 (lrp, hobao, force, sh) that you can currently buy, in terms of quality, longevity and 'tunability' and very close in performance, from low to mid, better at top end power!!
      In the 330 mark I would go for a Spower S6TT dark edition (picco based), argus K3 evo2 (if you are looking for something super easy) and as you said 330 Euros, you may be located in Europe 🤔 check Behr- Mobile .eu for 350 you can get the Spower B7TT (OS B2104 based) wich is one of my favorite engines, best deal for that price and tons of power to pull your truggy

      @@TastyBRC Hey man, just want to say thank you for your detailed advice!
      Seeing as I'm only just dipping my toes back into the hobby at the moment, I decided to buy a used 1/8 buggy just because it included a Picco Rebel XL that apparently still needs another 0.5L of break-in mileage. Now to swap the Picco for an ancient Reedy 121VR I had lying around and sell the buggy :D hopefully this means I've basically acquired a free engine!
      I'll give my old truggy I'm restoring a few runs and if I fall in love with the hobby again, I'll either make a 'P324' out of the Rebel XL along with ceramic bearing upgrades and backplate, or buy either an S-Power B7TT, Nova T6R, or a Reds 723!
      Once again thank you, your videos are really informative!
