I was always taught: "don't loan it, just give it to them", because many friendships end with people loaning sth and never getting it back or if they do get it back its been damaged in some way. Why create unnecessary tension and friction in a friendship if you can avoid it...
My first thought was, "What?" But this is actually a clever way of avoiding unnecessary consumption. Loan, or even give, something away rather than buying a silly gift. I have lots of things that would make nice gifts that I wouldn't mind never seeing again.
Letting a friend borrow a pretty dish for a dinner party. Makes sense. Letting your friend borrow a personal item to so they can decorate their mantle piece. That seems like a bit of a stretch.
Because I'm a little more diplomatic than most, I would suggest tweaking the idea a little bit. If you want to keep a little bit of your friends maybe "swapping" would be a better way to execute this. Or paint a board with or wall with chalkboard paint and have each friend write you a message. Take a picture of it and frame it. This way, you have a piece of your friends, you can reuse the chalkboard wall, and you don't have the ridiculous task of returning all that stuff. Have a great day!
This made me giggle. Instead of bringing a bottle of wine, just loan some plates so you feel involved! Heh. Way to overstate a small favour. If my friends don't have enough plates to go around, of course I'll be happy to help out with mine, that goes without saying. But I will still bring a bottle. The mantle idea was kind of cute, though.
The friends could have just as easily bought those items as gifts for you.Im not knocking the idea thought, I have a few friends with whom this could work. I would not trust the majority of people I know though.
I think it's always easier to criticize things that people create rather than create something better yourself. That being said, you guys really need to focus more on what you create and a little less on getting face time on the camera. People watch these types of videos in order to see what creative people are capable of creating, not necessarily the creative people themselves. Thanks for the videos guys.
The loaning idea is "cute" but it is not for me. I would rather have my sown stuff but do enjoy gifting as well. Gifting is one of my favorite things. But thanks.
it would make sense to borrow something expensive if you are using it only once like a auger to build a fence. But cheap shit like this is a waste of time having to meet the person whom you borrowed it from, and so many also, just buy the damn thing. Your friends really have time like that?
Freecycle swap...get tired of your old crap...trade for someone else's old crap! Its new to you and can help clean out stuff you really don't want anymore. Then you don't have to worry about chasing after the loaners...
Loaning!! What an awesome concept!!
just in loaning is out! presents are back in!

ooops! We can safely say that this idea didn't go down too well then.
how long is the loan for?
.... but when will you return those items?

: ) Calm down Orson, it's not that serious, lol. But yeah, this 'idea' is pretty out there.
girl what?? -___- where's the sentiment in that?
no, I'd rather buy and give and I don't like to lend and I hate to borrow
No, just no.
So, at what point do you decide to return the borrowed items?? Note to self: common sense over forced 'creativity', always.
The verb is 'lend' not loan.
Ummmmm no. Just no. I would cry if this was in my home. This was everything but good looking! Please someone stop her!

LADY! WTF
This video loaned me cancer.
Efff that!!?!
Makes no sense!
Hahah no
How can a home decor/style channel not know how to spell "renovation"? Oh dear.....
you decorated your mantle very nicely
but this idea is stupid

I don't like the Lonerscape idea. I would rather give someone a piece for the mantle rather than loan it to them.
ok, I did watch lots of these 'spaces' videos and they are all really bad.

I have to agree with Karen Pena - Yes, your mantle looks good, but the idea of "loaning" is so sorry/sad/stupid.
Really? What world do you live in? Not the one most people live in.
I do not like that idea.
Hahaha WTF?
this is horrible..
