it was not marathon but a stage of a triathlon "league". The exahausted brother was about to win the "league". His brother had no chance of winning anything "but" the single event itself. Hence the heroic aid to his brother.
The brother in problem was actually set to run home on cruise control and win, but instead he made a fatal choice to speed up to get a better time. That caused his problem. Actually after the event his helping brother call him f***** idiot for not just run it home safe 😀

Not only did he win the gold but it came down to his last lift for him to get the gold and he exceeded a weight in competition he has never done or came close to completing before
great video, but you forgot to mention that the powerlifter cried since he dedicated his win to his wife who passed away.

5:31 The powerlifter Matthias Steiner (Germany) didn't just cry because he managed to lift that weight but because he became Olympic Champion 2008 and he dedicated his gold medal to his wife (on the photo) who had just passed away.
Also in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Powerlifting is a different sport.
