Leaving out the obvious fact that he wasn't around for most of my life, I can't believe I've got to 62 and not heard this stuff! I found it by accident - it's the best accident I've ever had!
I took me 57 damn years, this sounds so much like Leonard Cohen one minute then Bruce Springsteen and then goddamned if it isn't just the pure genre shattering genius of Justin Vernon.
Check out all his albums and check out volcano choir too. That's his other band. Unbelievable. He has become my favorite artist and im a working musician. Not saying this lightly. He's the man
This version of Calgary absolutely destroys me, wringing out my heart like a dishrag full of water.... I just cried at work. Such a range of emotions.....good God.
This is one hell of performance! I love how he's always changing his way of playing those limited number of songs. It's been 8 years and I still could listen to every song forever, and that's because they're still in evolution. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I love this guy's songwriting. It's just this super deconstructed imagery. It sounds exactly like a memory. Not too much detail. Just a vibe or presence. Half spoken words. All of it. Absolutely brilliant .
this is the kind of music that stops everything around and brings you tears of...beauty. What a pearl, what a soul, what a musician. I'm happy we live on the same world.
hehe Schadenfreude is when someone is getting hurt and you're laughing about that :D (Schaden = damage, freude = joy) I'm sorry but we germans neither have a word for this sadly happy feeling (although I'm longing for one)
One of three songs that give me the feeling like I'm listening to it for the first time all over again every time I hear it. The original is great but this...this haunts me
That harmonica is God-like. To be honest, I actually kind of prefer this version to the original. This is road trip music through and through. Half-hoping that he records this at some point. I also really have to point out how much I love that he sings the last line into his harmonica to make it sound like it's distorting and fading. God I love this man.
When I grow I wanna Bon Iver so much!! Just when I found the acoustic version of Calgary & deemed it the best version I find this harmonica blessed performance. Long Live Justin Vernon! Long live Bon Iver !!
Justin Vernon.... you are one of the most wonderful, beautiful, musical souls on this planet. Your music takes many of us to different places. Forever grateful for you.
Going through a break up right now, with what was and is the best girl I've ever met. Days are weird and numb. Some better, some worse. This song has been on my head through the last days on loop. Can't say it's helping very much but at least gives me company through the hard times. Thank you Bon Iver ❤️
Absolutely in love with this version. He created a completely new song, which is equally as good as the original. I wish I had half as much vision as this man has.
40 years forward, I'll be sitting with my grandchildren and telling them how this amazing classic track is timeless and I still enjoy it till this day, and watch the reactions on their faces when they discover this track and start listening to it with their friends and starting to be into "classic music" Hahahaha.
As much as I love the album version (as well as some other live versions), this one blows all the others out of the water. I was absolutely floored the first time I heard/saw this. Given that it's Justin Vernon, I shouldn't be surprised by the quality of anything he touches, but DAMN. This is what perfect music and musicianship sounds like.
This was already an incredibly beautiful and emotional song but that harmonica just melts my heart. Combined with an acoustic guitar and his voice just brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for everything you give us, Justin.
Justin, You take me back to the first place I fell in love in. Your voice takes me back to being 18, in college, in Seattle. Hearing you sing brings back the images of the ocean, the laughter I had with friends, and rhe beauty of the Pacific Northwest. You take me back.
What I most like about justin is those little details (like the transition between his voice and the harmonica 5:37), which definitely achieve perfection and is present in every song this guy produce
This is probably the only time I have heard that old DeYarmond Edison sound fused with the Bon Iver we are used to. I thought this version worked incredibly
i like his lyrics, you cant really understand what its about without very carefully listening to it over and over, and then still it doesnt tell you what its really about, it relates to you specifically.
Here's to everyone who listenes to Bon Iver on the regular! Love you all!
Isaia Molina I see you.
Back at you!!
LOVED him for years and an will for eternity.

Andrew Taylor damn right :)

same heard it one week then by total chance were playing 10 miles away unreal
Never too late ❤️

Genius, just plain genius. So much skill, so much emotion, so much life. Justin Vernon is truly a revolutionary, one of a kind.
The first word that came to mind for me was "genius". I scrolled down and You beat me to it. Haha!
This version of Calgary absolutely destroys me, wringing out my heart like a dishrag full of water.... I just cried at work. Such a range of emotions.....good God.
Imagine the full Bon Iver album stripped like this!!!
This is one hell of performance! I love how he's always changing his way of playing those limited number of songs. It's been 8 years and I still could listen to every song forever, and that's because they're still in evolution.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I keep coming back to Bon Iver even if I'm feeling sad or happy: It's truly music at its best

Ingrida B. Gotta agree. There is genius in this mans art.
This guy makes me feel sadly happy.
Well said. Bravo.
Schaden freude I think? Some German phrase I don't remember
hehe Schadenfreude is when someone is getting hurt and you're laughing about that :D (Schaden = damage, freude = joy) I'm sorry but we germans neither have a word for this sadly happy feeling (although I'm longing for one)

This is undeniably the definitive version of Calgary. MAN
One of three songs that give me the feeling like I'm listening to it for the first time all over again every time I hear it. The original is great but this...this haunts me
This version of Calgary is the best accident of the year. And that harmonica is just gold. Thanks!
That harmonica is God-like. To be honest, I actually kind of prefer this version to the original. This is road trip music through and through. Half-hoping that he records this at some point. I also really have to point out how much I love that he sings the last line into his harmonica to make it sound like it's distorting and fading. God I love this man.
I actually feel like this is the definitive version of this song
YES! The voice-thru-harmonica ending was the most genius/splendid thing I've seen/heard in a minute
The most influential artist of the decade
You should listen to the Ghost of Tom Joad album of Bruce Springsteen, full of that kind of harmonica music.
Yamsmos very lovely words man God bless
its incredible how many octaves he has in this song, so beautifully arranged!
jezussss...this guys singing just ripped my soul out...just simply 5 min of pure magic music....well done!
When I grow I wanna Bon Iver so much!! Just when I found the acoustic version of Calgary & deemed it the best version I find this harmonica blessed performance. Long Live Justin Vernon! Long live Bon Iver !!
Words fail to describe how amazing this is. Thank you

my heart is so full. thank you, bon iver.
Listening to this before bed has become a bit of a ritual for me.
Wow!! the current Dylan/Bruce/Leonard---but better, truly!! I am in my 70's and have seen/heard them all.He is the real thing, and also Midwestern!!
bless you
Paul Kubic you should look up Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty. Check 'em out
I love you Paul, thank you for all you have said my guy 🤤❤️

Hahahaha.
My daughter’s favorite. So thankful they played it for her in Atlanta 2022!
One of the most genuin, genious and gorgeous preformances ever!
Perfect. His best version by far.

(understatement of the year, thank you)
This version is so pleasant to my ears and fits my mood on point to the core right now. Real and crispy
brought me to tears!!!!!! true GENIUS
SOBBING THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL
As much as I love the album version (as well as some other live versions), this one blows all the others out of the water. I was absolutely floored the first time I heard/saw this. This makes me so happy to see Justin peform like this. Was sorely missed at Eaux Claires this year!
I can't stop listening. Hauntingly beautiful.
Wow. What a performance. Just wow.
What I most like about justin is those little details (like the transition between his voice and the harmonica 5:37), which definitely achieve perfection and is present in every song this guy produce

Best version ever!
This is probably the only time I have heard that old DeYarmond Edison sound fused with the Bon Iver we are used to. I thought this version worked incredibly
No doubt one of the most amazing performance ever!!!!
Full of magic

Incredible .
Great performance. And great soundwork, Xandy Whitesel! I'm glad you're listed in the credits. Nice work.
Mon Dieu , que c'est beau !!! J'adore Justin Vernon , bon iver....
please don't stop posting these live videos!
This is just beautiful.
Peace for mind....so talented and Gifted
Wow, Great Rendition! Particularly That "Swolen Orange and Light Let Through" is Fucking Brilliant !
"there's a fire going out"
That "swollen orange..." line is my favorite right along with the "Just have to keep a dialogue". So powerful!
Thankful for this
beautiful
i like his lyrics, you cant really understand what its about without very carefully listening to it over and over, and then still it doesnt tell you what its really about, it relates to you specifically.
I think that some of the lyrics give it away. Sounds to me like it's about a past lover
I was only for to die beside
This is incredible! I prefer it to the original because of the vulnerability and rawness, and the harmonica is a nice touch as well. WOW!
this is my religion.
Tyler James Blair and I said we are not gonna yet sorry for the long trip
Amen
Love all the live uploads from this! Keep them coming!
Pure bliss
Swollen orange light let through, your one piece swimmer stuck to you aaaaahhhhhhhh
He sang that part right when I read your comment. It was serendipitous.
@@mammontustado9680 i love when that kind of thing happens. Glad to contribute to a serendipitous moment.
This guy's frikkin incredible
The only thing keeping me alive right now. God life is hard
hope you are still around
Incredible rework
Me encanta este músico es muy completo tiene un talento increíble
Just amazing
Now, if Justin would finally just come to Calgary, that would be perfect.
afetbinttuzani They've been to Calgary. I saw them play Calgary in Calgary for the first time. It was magical.
What!?!?! When? :'-(
afetbinttuzani like 2011or 2012?
I wish this was on Spotify 😢
Geniusz. Mistrz. Kocham!
perfect song!
Can somebody please tab this out!!
That harmonica though. ..
melhor vídeo do mundo
4:42 so much soul
Very similar to 'Song for a Lover of Long ago' I wonder if he had this in mind when re-creating this song.
nice I like ur voice
4:40 gave me goosebumps.
Reminds me of Bruce Springsteen - I'm on fire, such an excellent version!
The intro is the same as The Ghost of Tom Joad by Springsteen!
I heard the same thing. Every portion of the song that has the harmonica reminds me of The Ghost of Tom Joad.
That version of Tom Joad is amazing.
The best six minutes of my life
love
im so fucking inlove with tht version much more than the original anyone knows where to buy/download it?
So much better than the original, wish there was a studio version of this
=heaven
this is what falling in love sounds like
This song made me start playing harmonica
This version of Calgary sounds a lot like Chris Rea - Looking For the Summer. It took me away to my childhood.
wow...
Almost forgot to listen to this today
Arni Lochner lol wow
