Martin Scorsese directs and Ellen Burstyn delivers an Academy Award-winning performance, in the feature that inspired the long-running sitcom "Alice".At 32, Alice Hyatt (Burstyn) watches her dreams slipping away. Instead of a career as a singer, she has an abusive husband, an ill-mannered 12-year-old son and a life in small-town Oklahoma. But when her husband dies in a traffic accident, Alice heads west to pursue her dreams, working as a lounge singer along the way.
    Directed By Martin Scorsese
Starring Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson, Diane Ladd

Same. MY memory of this is way off from what it's about and I had no idea the show 'Alice' was based off this. But there's Mel. I must have confused this with another movie as in my distant kid memory I thought 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' had to do with a young girl and drugs.
Looking up things, that must have been 'Go Ask Alice'.

Then again, a RUclips comment section is hardly the place to have such discussions. So yes, you’ll have to expand on what you mean by cinema, and what it is that you want from it

Ken M And to settle the matter, they brought in Celia Weston as Jolene to deliver weak punchlines. Instead of punching up the comedy lines, they purposely punched it down, so there’d be no competition on the set. Celia ended up developing a loving character on “Alice” plus having a wonderful career to boot.

Diane Ladd [as Flo the waitress] stole the show in this film. A real breath of fresh air. Ellen Burstyn and her son are supposed to be the protagonists and they even have a few cute scenes together but I ultimately found them to be unlikable. The kid was bad enough but Burstyn was even worse than him at times.

    • @MVR326
