- Dream Warriors - Canadian hip hop (rap) group that exploded globally in the late 80's, early 90's and created a form of rap for many other successful groups to follow.
Ivan Berry is the manager of Dream Warriors Видеоклипы
Was used as a theme song to the Canadian game show Definition..... which is why they call it Definition.... made Quincy Jones lots of money..... then it was brought back by Mike Myers as the Austin Powers theme.... a tribute for his Canadian heritage.....
Still sounds great after all these years!
I remember in 1990 living in Jane and Finch living at 5 needle Fairway looking over the balcony and watching them shoot the definition rap video with all the cameras there by the basketball
The Dream Warriors never sold out to America, for the idiot saying so. They stayed true to their roots until the last album. During their last recording sessions they screwed by the label and the Canadian Gov. They all live in Toronto still and they all love where they came from. Godfathers of Canadian rap with others.
Amen. I was in high school at the time in North York, I remember this well.
What a great sound. Still love it almost 30 years on. Thanks for this. 👍
Who the hell cares
Lol, why does this not come as a surprise! Canadian tools blaming other countries when most of everything happens here! Including the fix! I'm sure thiers lots to fix
Godfathers ? hell no.... great hell yea
This is my definition of Hip Hop...love it !
Maaaaaaaaannn i miss the Old School Jane and finch 90s classics definition 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was the "Different World" era, everything really colourful.
WE LOVED IT IN FRANCE
I miss the '90s so much.
Ahh I brought this album in 1990 in the virgin megastore on the quays in Dublin..(sadly its no longer there) This style of hip hop is amazing not aggressive can be fun and still convey a thought or viewpoint...!!!Awesome..
YEAH, BABY! The '90s were beautiful :)
I don't listen to much hip hop, but I heard this song on CBC radio 3 and I LOVE it. Makes me want to dance.
This reminds me of my first year in Canada, living around Jane and Eglinton. Big up the T Dot crew
"Bags of mostly water" - Star Trek quote makes the song
There's another song of theirs where they quote from that '80s cartoon Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light
Interesting 🧐 facts I didn’t know
🖖😎
Soul Bossa Nova sample....Quincy Jones is legendary
I have this on vinyl and remember the video from BET Rap City. Great post!!!!!!!!
Nice one brother!! Brings back memories...These guys need to come back!
"My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style", the album's most successful single, sampled Quincy Jones' "Soul Bossa Nova" - which was also known to Canadian audiences as the longtime theme music of the television game show Definition. The song was a hit in both Canada and Europe, winning a Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year in 1992.[1] "Wash Your Face in My Sink" and "Ludi" were also notable singles.... To summarize!
And later on day in day out and sound clash were big also
THIS IS NOT A SAMPLE FROM 'SOUL BOSSA NOVA'. This song's background is using the theme song for the 1974 Canadian TV Show 'DEFINTION', which was a REMAKE of the song 'Soul Bossa Nova' by Quincy Jones. Makes you wonder if the Dream Warriors even knew that the Quincy Jones 'original' even existed LOL To further my point, they attribute this song to the TV show 'Definition' by cleverly using the word 'definition' in the title and chorus of this song. This hit came out shortly after the TV show finished in 1989.
Loved hip hop in the 1990s when they used a lot of jazz hooks and samples. Also Us3, The Bucketheads and Brand New Heavies. Great stuff.
'91! I actually remember this...brings back some memories....
Biggest beat out there at the time, and it holds up really, really well today.
I was obsessed with hip hop about this time-I was 13 in 91. I’m not sure where I first heard this but I w really bought the CD at Christiana mall in DE (I’m from South Jersey). I rocked it a lot that summer-it had a decent amount of joints on it. Naughty, Dela, KMD, LONS, ED og, Gang Starr, Cypress, EPMD, NWA, we’re all popping so unfortunately DW were overlooked.
This track is important to me
not sure whether this song has more to do with the Canadian TV show Definition or the song Soul Bossanova. I still love this song since it first came out.
Still bangs in 2023!!!
And in 2024. And a factoid: the Dream Warriors used to keep their Gold album for this track at my auntie's house.
Bless 'em. This track still kicks.
this whole album was my jam back in the day lots of sci - fi references. Even had a cut about a d12 die for the D&D fans !!!
Yeah, that's right, Dungeons & Dragons. "Going down the only road I've ever known". But the Twelve-Sided Die is not the main die used in D&D. It's used as the only die in a game called TEPHRA.
Bags of mostly water... Only twigged that line now!!!
This reminds me of THE GREAT CHANGE!
From the stiff stick-men of the late 80's to the 'Next Generation' of loose trucks
and style style style....
Alphonso Rawls sooo ahead of his time..
Props for staying and not following the Sellout train of you're BFF's...
I always had a hard time with the style, but did appreciate the positiveness. This takes me way way back for sure.

First saw this on Video Music Box
Played on CBC this morning!
Takes me back.
Awesome
I'm really digging this extra jazzy joint- baby Paul!!
wow, this brings back good memories.
Very informative. Thank you. By the way, around 2:53, one character replies "Mine is Capital Q." Wonder of they were paying any tribute to Quincy Jones.
Cheers.

Legend.
Much Music "Rap City" was one of the only rap media outlets around on tv in Canada in the early days. The DW represented the true essence of hiphop. Real shit. If you enjoy this please check out the Rascals...
All-time champions! 💪🏻
Awesome toon!!
Dr Evil approves
The background used in this song by the Dream Warriors is from the Canadian TV Show theme 'Definition', which was the remake of Quincy Jones 'Soul Bossa Nova'. This is NOT a sample from Quincy Jones' original version.
That's right, I remember that Canadian game-show DEFINITION, and that the host was the Man from Glad, er, no, just kidding!
Xclan style
big track!
im a hip hop head to tha fullest.there were hip hop artist that rapped outside of the box in the early 90s and i know em all L.o.n.s dela, jungle bros,U,M,Cs,k.m.d,3rd bass etc.never heard of these guys.
Haven't heard this one in decades, but I fondly recall it from the latter days of WLIR FM radio here in LI NY, who played it perhaps
a bit too incessantly back then. I also remember it from the last few years of my LI club days, I started giving up on that
when they mainly, gave up on good music and started playing like "Jump Around" and nonsense like that all night long. But this song
I liked a lot. I also dug De La Soul quite a bit.
Classic Koolness!
Peace!!

(What the funk is this?!)
(My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style)
Here we go, are you ready for one other
Dream Warriors' noise is new discover-all
Once again with a new blend so telephone a friend
(yo, Lou got this new song, It's stupid, ha ha haa)
Compact disc to the prime is optimist
Fans and friends I'm universally cosmic
Concrete jungles abound
You stand by the speakers
you're smothered and covered up in the sound
You stand strong as you pump your fist
I'm talkin' all that jazz
Now what's my definition
Chorus:
My definition
my definition
my definition is this
my definition
my definition
my definition is this
my definition
my definition is this
my definition
When I kick rhymes there's something said to do damage
Hits so strong even superman needs a hand
So bob your head, dread, as I kick the funk flow
This rhyme is subliminal yet you don't think so
I walk with a gold cane, a gold brain and no gold chain
Behind the truth lies there lies a parafix
In the mix is where Dream Warriors go
Define if you will but I know so
There is no definition
Chorus
Rhyme though I know it to flow it just like a poet
Your definition of me is definitely wrong
Why must I try to liem and build an alibi
When all you ask is just for me to be me
Replace a replacable replacement with this
Relax relax relaxtion boombastic
My name is King Lu
(Mine is Capital Q)
Bags of mostly water search to find: my definition
Chorus
I sought beauty through the dust of strife
I sought meaning to my music addicition
Arise awaken we have need to reverse
A plague has befallen us no time to rehearse
This rhyme speaks it speak and has spoken
This rhyme will not change thing
It needs to be changed in a hearse
You find caskets in my rhyme baskets of rhyme
Your definition can define
So what's my definition?
Chorus
(yo, where'd everybody go?)
roll the 12 sided dice
love it
fine!
Lol, this video! What a trip
I hadn't noticed before, but I'm pretty sure it's Maestro Fresh Wes that turns and points at 3:15
probably, they were all hanging together back them.
@unclepunkle Impossible to dislike anything this good! :)
yeah baby!!
This song is my childhood.
Another one I liked.
Technically, the name of the song is Soul Bossa Nova - you're right that it's by Quincy Jones. It was used as the theme music for a Canadian game show called "Definition" - hence the name of the song. The show was filmed in Toronto, where both the Dream Warriors and Mike Myers come from (obviously). So both Myers and Dream Warriors gave a little nod to that game show in their respective performances, as you can clearly see in this video (with the game show sequences).
It depends on what you mean by technically... This song's background is using the theme song for the 1974 Canadian TV Show 'DEFINTION', which was a REMAKE of the song 'Soul Bossa Nova' by Quincy Jones. Makes you wonder if the Dream Warriors even knew that the Quincy Jones 'original' even existed LOL
#CLASSIC 👊✌💯💯💯💯
3:14... All Cameo's for the cameo appearance

Still Boombastic in 2018 bro.
2018
YOU! 🤣
Most dont know that sample is from the TV Show "Definition"
@johnlebl
yes it is him
@CoastToKootenay no i meant it was used in it.......
i want this tape
So bummed about the low sound quality. I have bought 3 used cds of the album, and they all sound like a dubbed cassette. The other hip hop groups from that time and label, Freestyle Fellowship and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, sound great on original cds.
🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
How does this only have one rating(before my own 5/5)?!
Who is more fool the fool or the fool who follows the fool
emcee equals DuB this was track two on the cassette if I recall correct proverb plus obi-wan said something similar 😀
i loved this song. then i heard the main sample on austin powers. sorry just shouting into the void over here
