I have this same locomotive but it was sold by itself in the Athearn Ready to Roll lIne. Grand Trunk Western's bicentennial loco was one of the nicest liveries.
Absolutely okay in fact i enjoyed the entire presentation of this video. I 100% agree ATHEARN needs to make more of these sets.You have my vote & support on that. These sold out like hotcakes!. Example KATO N scale sells the GEVO sets repeated & ATHEARN on their HO & N doesn't Strange. 🤔 Like your 4 by 6 layout also have BACHMANN trackage as well your set up is another idea i am glad you are sharing. I thank you & looking at your next video...Happy modeling trains. 😃
Thanks for watching, Im glad you liked the set. I think its an Awesome set and they should do more. Been dragging my feet on turning my train table into a layout. Time always against me. lol If you like vintage sets, I just did a video on a 1968 Tyco. ruclips.net/video/wtbAPa0Dcwo/видео.html I also collect train sets, so will have more to come.
Love the videos from another buckeye! I just picked up a old Athearn Iron Horse set off FB marketplace( Union Pacific GP38-2). Box is in great shape, but a couple pieces of track needed replaced, and most of the couplers were broken both on loco, and one or two on the freight cars. Kit was bought for a young kid yrs ago, so assuming it was tossed around a bit. I bought a old Walthers HO set yrs ago, but didn't keep for long. Been looking for one of the older blue boxes for a while for a good price, and glad I finally snagged one. Been into N scale for a few yrs, so here I go getting into HO scale. Damn it's addicting! :}
Someone below commented on the GT '76 livery. You should check out the Milwaukee Roads SD40 Spirit of 76 paint scheme. It was so popular Microscale had a decal set for making a homemade version. Any factory model of it sells out. Edit: Checked EvilBay and Athearn still sells it $260.00. You can get the decal set for $9.

It's a very good train set. I wish Athearn still offered a train set.

I saw it on eBay, so tempted.
Milwaukee roads was a SD40-2 and not a SD40.... Milwaukee owned no SD40 models.
I modeled the locomotive many times in the early 1990s ....if i remember correctly it was a GP38 and not a GP38-2
Great video! I gotta say though the SOO Line railway is pronounced as "Sue Line" not "So Line." Sorry man, had to get that out.
