What a lovely performance! Also, it brings back gentle memories about 55 years ago, when I was learning these in the Conservatory. As they say, those were the days!
Very nicely done Mr. Diekstra. I especially liked your using a scale to run up to the opening chord in the G-Major... sounded very 17th century French and I know Bach would have approved :) These compositions are often titled The 8 Little Preludes and Fugues rather than The 8 Short Preludes and Fugues, but I am pleased that they've been titled here as 8 Short Preludes and Fugues because that's what they are. There's nothing "little" about them IMO though they are short in length and development compared to other Bach organ prelude and fugue compositions. The provenance of BWV 553-560 has always been "questionable", but they have many of the hallmarks of Bach and many musicologists have said they are Bach. To me they are Bach. And though they are deceptively simple, they do have some passages that require "attention" that I've not found in Bach's other major organ works. Thank you for posting your performances of BWV 553 ~ 560 as I believe yours are the best I"ve heard out of the limited performances currently available.
Hello Tim: Yes, it's said that a student of Bach, "likely Krebs," penned these compositions. But "likely" is not a certainty of course, and until actual proof can be shown, for me I will continue to attribute them to the Master. And if as you say, that if they did come from Krebs they might have been defined by the Master, then I think the Master would have been very pleased with his student because these are excellent short preludes and fugues in the tradition of the Master - so either way, mission accomplished, and it's a win-win situation :)
Wonderful playing. No longer attributed to Bach though but speculated to be by one of his students. You can tell in the fugues especially that it’s not Bach’s deft counterpoint. Still a lovely collection of preludes and fugues, though, and gorgeously played.
I always wonder how people can memorise organ music. I can manage to cope with 3 manuals and pedals if the music is in front of me but to play a piece of Bach which I know so well without music is impossible. Strangely I can improvise but then a different set of rules seem to be at play. Coming into learning to play at a later age in life may have something to do with it. Have to say Rudi is a wonderful organist , it is a source of great pleasure to leave him playing in the background when I am working.
I'm learning organ at the moment and I don't find it that challenging to remember. A lot is muscle memory. Especially the pedaling. But 8 PIECES!!! That's a lot to remember lol
Very good performances but I didn’t like the over use of the Trumpet throughout when a Mixture would have been sufficient. Also some of the pieces were hurried which made them unclear.
As with the Inventions I can play these repeatedly without tiring of them. We didn’t see your socks! I notice female players these days seem to play toe to toe without heel, am I correct?

Very much so; I agree. If Krebs' hand did put these to paper, they were an exercise as defined by the Master.

Did you know Bach personally then?
Yes! Being a descendent of Methuselah, I have been gifted a long mortal life. 🙂
Very impressive!

Brilliant!

Can someone please share the sheet music.
On what microphone it was recorded? Maybe some Zoom recorder?
I think he's using the camera's micorphone
