- Han Kang of South Korea has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize for Literature. The Swedish Academy noted her "intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life."
Han, 53, has been publishing to critical acclaim in her native country since 1995. She achieved greater international recognition for "The Vegetarian." Originally published in 2007, it was first published in English in 2015 and went on to win the International Man Booker Prize a year later.
Her novels often feature female protagonists feeling isolated or at odds with South Korea's rigid social norms.
Han is the first Asian woman to win the world's most prestigious literary prize.

Second Nobel Prize for South Korea!
And the first Nobel Literature Prize for Asian women!
Congrats, Han Kang!🎉🥳🥳💪💪
Great Honor for S.Korea and I’m proud of her as a S.Korean 🇰🇷👏🏻👏🏻
It's so well deserved 🙏🏾
Congrats! Her accomplishment would start a new chapter in global literature, inspiring people worldwide to discover gemstones beyond language and geographical barriers🎉
In my life I’ve never imagined reading a Nobel prize winning book in Korean without translations. That’s the most touching point for me as Korean.
Congrats hankang🎉
행복하고 자랑스럽고 영광스러운 아침입니다 정말 축하드립니다 😊
진심으로 축하합니다
Han Kang is such a great choice.
Her winning the highest international prize in Literature is so well deserved.
🎉🎉🎉PROUDFUL RESPECT HAN KANG🫶🫶🫶🫶🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🥰
Congrats. It's literally amazing ❤
Her Korean name, Hankang, is the phonetic representation of the Korean pronunciation of Han River, the largest river in South Korea. How poetic is the connection between her name and South Korea's greatest river, especially as a Nobel Prize winner in Literature?
She became a beautiful light in Korean literature and gave Korea a Nobel Prize in 24 years.☺☺
Korean literature and artform and Kdrama is simply out of this world in a good way. Discovering korean novel is like the first time i discovered Manga. Korean Dramas are most adapted from korean literature, love it.
Is this the first literature nobel for Korea?? Congrats! Want to read her soon.
She also became first female author who won Novel prize in literature in Asia.
Love Kang Han! Human Acts is a masterpiece. So happy she won!
Congratulations to author Han Kang🎉🎉🎉
As a Korean, I'm proud of her.
Her book the vegetarian is great! Congrats! Latin America has tons of good literature, let's change the candidates even more, please!
The whole world is waiting for the Nobel Prize in Literature
Congratulations, Han Kang!
축하합니다!! 한강 작가님!!

She is an amazing author
Congrats to 한강 for the prize. So proud of you!
*fast South Korea🇰🇷 recognise Palestine country in UN. like China, Russia, Philippines recognised 2 country (Israel & Palestine). 🙏*
Congratulations to Han Kang 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful news.
I must read her soon!!
한강작가님, 축하드립니다.참으로 훌륭한 일을 하셨습니다.
Congrats, Han Kang!! Wonderful news!
We are so proud of Han Kang & Suh Youngeun , two great authors !♡♡
Go Korea !
Congratulations ❤
가슴아픈 우리의 역사를 시적 서정성으로 담아내는 위대한 소설가
Congratulations
Super proud!
Han Kang is a good choice.
한강님이 한국어의 날인 한글날 다음날에 노벨문학상을 받았습니다. 너무 기쁩니다.
Han Kang. Her last name is Han and her first name is Kang. Han means Republic of Korea and Kang means flowing river. The clear river water that flows in Republic of Korea.
Fighting!
Super Important
❤❤❤❤
일본은 노벨상이 20개인데.
백년은 앞섰구나.
Y Lobo Antunez para cuándo?
Wow
❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
자랑이다!!!
멋짐~축!!!
You do sports ?
How about the giving the Nobel to the best author? Gender, nationality should play absolutely no role in the selection. Congratulations to Ms Han Kang, yammering on about gender and nationality diminishes her accomplishments.
Never heard of her.
한강 만세 😊
*South Korea🇰🇷 have islands dispute with Japan.*
make maritime agreement & keep peace!
there is no dispute.. the island belongs to s. korea just like Honshu belongs to Japan
I don't think literature can be experienced in translation. Nobel prize should expand to include multiple opinions.
I agree because the nuances of the works are often lost in translation.
@@Sam-nb8ev The beauty of language is also lost in translation. Poetry in Hindi, Urdu, Ghazals are beautiful but you need to know the language. The depth of words and cultural aspect of it.
❤😊👍
I strongly disagree, the prize could have gone to a much better place...
Its sad and fortunate at the same time that novel prize doesn't consider your taste.😂
@@kkh-h2v If you really think she is the most competent for the award, then I can congratulate...
She's already the winner of Booker and Medicis prizes in recent years. Nobody gets such an honour for nothing.
I should also be given a Nobel Prize for my FREE ENERGY design. All calculations are fully consistent with the laws of physics
No friction forces?
The design is based on Pascal's hydraulic machine. There is friction, but there is enough force to overcome it.
I'm in LOVE with JESUS!
"All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:3! ❤❤❤
"For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6!
Give HIM the Glory, He gives you the prize! AMEN!
How does an authoritarian surveillance regime affect *people's brains?*
- Taiwan🇹🇼, 20 million people, has 4 Nobel Prizes: 3 Physics and 1 Chemistry.
- China🇨🇳, 1.4 billion people, 60 times the population of Taiwan, has only 3 prizes: one Peace, one Literature, and one Medical.
- 6 prizes for people with Chinese origins *not living in China.*
West Taiwan has 2 prizes in literature
It obviously doesn't depend on literary criteria. It's gender balance and geography.
It seems the country who had not won nobel prize in literature is the most potential to get one.
Just because South Korea has gained influence in the last decades.
Even she said she was surprised. Nobel prize has lost its relevance. Even since Dylan.
Very well could have been Hong Kong
Nobel Prize
has become WOKE!!!
I understand your worry, but in this particular consideration I think u are mistaken. U should read Human Acts
"For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6!
JESUS IS RETURNING SOON!
BE SURE YOU'VE READ HIS BOOK!
SOULS LIVE FOREVER!
ST JOHN 3:16! ❤
FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS AND SPEND ETERNITY WITH HIM IN PARADISE!❤❤❤
THE ALTERNATIVE IS UNTHINKABLE.
>confronts historical traumas
So it is a political prize as usual. OK
Worthless prize, but at least it reminds people that literature exists, bring it to the surface for a moment. The most important function of literature is probably to preserve the moods, thinking and values of the era.
Why did she accept it?? Make her forfeit it so people can get on with their jobs..
자랑스러운 대한민국~~👍👍👍👍
