I did watch a recap of the previous series before I watched episode three. It filled in a lot of blanks!
I hadn't watched the original show in years, but I remembered Chawls, being attacked in the final episode by Gyrich. He was dying but his space bird girlfriend, Llilandra took him away. I always took that as them being together his final days, over some miraculous cure, and that he did actually die. Of course, I was a cynical late teen back when it aired so that appealed to my macabre sensibilities.
Was gonna make this suggestion. There were a few recap vids on youtube that are worth the time to refresh in order to more appropriately make connections in what they continue with in xmen97
I'm not gonna spoil anything but I will say this much.....JAW DROPPING. That's how I'd describe this whole series.
I need to do the same. I obviously forgot some important details because several things came as a surprise when watching E1 lol.
'97 gave Cyclops the love he deserves! I hate it when people base their opinions of him solely off of the Fox movies -- they did Scott so dirty.

Main reason Cyclops is like this is because the showrunner mained Cyclops in Marvel vs Capcom, and wanted to show off why Cyclops was his "anchor". Mission accomplished =P

As a comics reader since the late 70's, this is the first time I've actually "gotten" why people like Cyclops. This version of the character is missing a lot of comics Cyke's problematic history, which always turned me off of him. Now I can appreciate the coolness.
@@yermatedave4930I’ve been reading X-Men since the 70’s as well and Cyclops has always been that dude. Lately I see problems with his characterization but that only happened in the last ten years. The new writers trying to make him edgy are kinda ruining him, Jean and Logan to be honest.🤷🏾♂️
Watching Storm glass the desert and the sentinels shit a collective robot brick was so satisfying.

That piano intro did NOT need to go that hard.
The writers who created this show knew exactly what they were doing. From the opening to Cyclops finally getting the respect that he was robbed of in the movies. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I did.
With that being said, Been shouting "Magneto was Right" from the mountain tops for decades now and hearing him refer to them as "his" X-men: Quality. Chef's Kiss.

Cyclops and Havoks powers works the same way. They need also absorb solar energy.
It's going to be crazy when she finds out what do babies actual name is cuz she was like I'm so sure they're going to name their baby Charles adventurous who was watched and just know the comics know
So Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, and Beast are all the same voice actors. And it's 97 becuase the original show ended in 1996. So they're honoring the show by essentially picking up where it left off, and wanted to keep virtually the same design.
Gambit's VA came back, but as Cable.
Most of the surviving cast are back, just some in new roles, like Catherine Disher as Cooper, not Jean
Mr. Sinister has also the same voice actor.
The original Jubilee came back too for one episode

This is the best Cyclops we've ever gotten in non-print media, but also the same can be said for just about every mutant in this series. They really did an excellent job with this entire team of characters.
Bishop is actually in the movie days of future past, his the guy with a gun
And Roberto da Costa also appears in the movie
Only by technicality can either version of Sunspot from the Fox movies be counted as a depiction of Roberto.

Roberto is a little "same story, different day" throwback to Jubilee and the originals first episode. Where they find her. So it's like we get the series back with a similar start.
Jubilee is a far better more audience stand in. i really didn't care for this version of him. can't say i know him all that well from the comics either. but most of the time he was on screen i really just didn't like him.

This show is such a trip and it took me a long time to figure out why. Usually when you watch or play things from your youth, you get smacked by how much lower quality or unsophisticated it was vs your memory.
With this show, the creators somehow reached into your mind and pulled out the idealized version of xmen you remember, rather than the remaking what it actually was.
Also, i somehow didnt appreciate it as a kid, but this was a full on soap opera, and i am here for it.
Don't forget, or in case you didn't know: The X-Men as a whole were modeled after the Civil Rights movement. Charles is meant to represent the peaceful ideology of Martin Luthor King Jr, while Magneto represents the more hardlined approach of Malcolm X. Over time the X-Men have come to represent many different civil rights issues.
Stan Lee said this wasn't initially true. He just got tired of coming up with origins for powers so mutants was an easy way to explain alot of characters away. It was later that the parallels were drawn.
This show has some Omega Level musical score and it legitimately gives me chills when I hear some of the music on the soundtrack 😢😊

Precisely. I was very "meh" about the idea of this series and then I watched it. Hot damn, they knocked it out of the park.
This is going to be so much fun. No spoilers, but the show is better than you can even predict. The nostalgia factor helps, too. All I will say, is watch for changes in the intro, and who does the "previously on X-Men".

Yes, I loved Cyclops when I watched the show in the 90s. The movies did my man dirty.
They're drawing from several comic stories from a couple different runs, to create an amalgam that is new, while also allowing them to fit in some Iconic Panels on the screen!

i wouldnt have known xmen existed if it wasnt for my best mates older sister watching the xmen cartoon on cable when i went round his house one day
Saturday morning cartoons were really big in the 90s and most families would have 1 tv hooked up to the cable in the living room so mom and dad probably made you "take turns" choosing shows. The ads were the same between them and many kids liked the ads better than the shows.
Hands down the best thing marvel has done in the past 10 years, that before it being the best X-MEN adaptation ever period
I’m glad this show finally puts respect on Cyclops & just the rest of the X-men that the movies didn’t really focus on. Ugh love this show & Gambit was always my fav X-men from the original show & other stuff
Cyclops has always been my favorite X-Man. I'm so happy he is finally getting the respect he deserves. This episode went a long way to undoing the damage the Fox movies did to him.
Oh yeah!! If you watched the original show then you’ll love this show. They do Cyclops and Gambit so well in this show if they were some of your faves. And a lot of the original voice actors did return so it just adds to the nostalgia of it all.
Bishop was in the movies - Days of Future Past. In the final assault, he tells Storm to charge him with a lightning attack. Its actually one of my favorite scenes lol.

The season is based off of X-Men comics, but it's sort of a remix of a lot of different runs. So there's no one to one adaptation of a particular story line, but if you read a lot of X-Men comics over the years you can see where a lot of it is going.
make yourself a favor and watch these on saturday mornings, it will feel so nostalgic
Cyclops was always the fan favorite. But then a comic book arc happened that butchered his character, and then people started liking Wolverine. They tried to retcon it a bit, and the cartoon made him popular again, but he never really got back to full fame.
- And yes, almost all voice actors are back. The creator of this show had this stipulation. Some sound a bit different just because they're older.
- The intros change! See if you can catch the differences.
- I'm pretty sure it's Xmen 97 bc it ended in 96 so it's like the season we would've gotten.
One thing is important for you to know for this series in case you've forgotten from the original. NOT A SPOILER. If you had watched the recap special to prepare you for this it would've told you:
- Xavier isn't dead. He got hurt, and an alien race took him to heal but the X-Men went with it so that people will leave him alone. It helps explain things like Morph turning into him. It's not as dark as it seems. As far as they know, Xavier is hurt, they don't know if he'll be able to heal or ever come back. But they don't think he's dead. Just the world does (I don't know if Magneto knows, I can't remember).
- Also Cyclop's power are force based, so it pushes, doesn't burn (although it causes friction and can heat up). they get it wrong most movies and why he can fire it at people and not like... disintegrate them.
The show dosen't slow down for anyone... so strap in, cuz u are in for a journey!!!

This show is a masterclass in how to do an ensemble. Every character had something useful to do. Frankly, they had more to do in a single 20-odd minute episode then the entirety of the live action franchise.
I got emotional as well. This show is the reason I ever started reading comics. And these voices are still the ones I hear in my head whenever I read an X-Men comic.
Solely because of the original cartoon The X-Men have been my favorite comicbook team.
From what I know it's a continuation of where the old series previously ended, and then they are continuing with a new series that goes by whatever happened in the final series previously.
Bobby DaCo0sta was part of teh New Mutants in the comics, the New Mutants were like the teenage version of the Xmen
He's also been a member (leader even) of the Avengers
I stopped reading comics when they split the xmen into several different comics to make more money
And Magneto was their leader back then. 😉
As much as I love daredevil, I really think this is the best show marvel has ever done. This first episode was a better portrayal of Scott than the original trilogy

Roberto da Costa is Sunspot he was in X-Men Days of Future Past played by Adan Canto from the TV series The Following staring Kevin Bacon, and the Kiefer Sutherland series Designated Survivor.
TBF about Roberto, they said they didn't care who he was, and that they were just going to use him as target practice.

the comics are mined for characters & story ideas, but the adaptations are loose at best & more mixed up/picked apart (& well done)

I got choked up by the opening of the first episode. This was my all time favorite show growing up and I’ve said for years I wish they’d bring it back. Never thought it would happen but I’m eternally grateful for it.
I too has happy Cyclops finally got his due in this iteration. Thing about Cyclops is he not only has to stop bad guys but also think of how it looks on mutants with their actions. While Xavier does have the ideas and hope being on the frontline Scott is upfront of what is really going on and that is the difference between him than Xavier.
Finally! My favorite reactor reacts to my favorite animation series. This series is better than expected. You are in for an amazing journey.
I remember thinking Halle Berry was too young to play Storm because this Storm had a deeper voice lol

The writers for this show understood the assignment. So good, got chills when I heard Storm saying her corny but still awesome lines.

This whole 90s kids show got the adult glow up and tbh this is one of my favourite bits of media in a long time, its so well made and made to cater to a variety of viewers from hardcore comic book fans to newbies.

Wolverine, Gambit, and Nightcrawler have always been my favorite X-men characters. Wolverine is my favorite comic book character.
This series exceeded all my expectations and gave us the best Marvel entry and comic book show, quite possibly ever.

Growing up with the original, I was so hyped when they first teased this. Somehow it is better than I could imagine.
The first episode is great in the way that even though this is a direct continuation of the 90s Animated Series (hence 97), including the Charles of it all, but they give you enough to catch you up and let this show stand on it's own.
The art style is a modern tribute to the original style, they got original voices (where possible), and kept the original theme with extra instruments.
I could go on forever, so happy to see you reacting to X-Men 97, see you in the next one.

I just watched this mind blowing netflix series, Nightmares and daydreams, this is sci-fi series, but not like any other sci fi out there, i think u should watch this next time

I just love that, almost universally TO A PERSON, everyone seems to agree that...this is the best thing Marvel has EVER put to screen, and through the lows, but especially the highest of highs, that's saying A LOT. :) ANd I couldn't agree more. It's near perfect.

cyclops was actually my second favorite character, my first was storm because I had a big old baby gay crush on her and because she was so awesome, but Cyclops was always near and dear to my heart. I felt like he was a good leader and always got the short end of the stick because he wasn't the 'bad boy' of the group, especially in the movies. I'm so glad the show gives him the proper respect he's deserved but never got outside of comics

28:54 No spoilers, but letting you know as a franchise fan who read the ~10 monthly X-Men comic titles in the '90s that X-Men 97 DOES play to nostalgia by incorporating characters/events from several '90s storylines. I think it was a good move since many people who watched the original animated series back then are likely to have read and remember those comics too, but the story progression is nowhere near identical so it was still new to me. As someone who watched X-Men on TV but couldn't remember where the plot left off decades ago, I feel like X-Men 97 does a fantastic job getting old fans back in gear with old characters while not requiring any previous knowledge from new fans. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season!

Most of the original voices are back either for their original character or for a new one!
I don't know anything about the new series, but Magneto led the "Astonishing X-Men" during the Age of Apocalypse event and in one of the episodes of the show he was the leader of X-Men in one of the post apocalyptic futures they had to prevent with time travel. Everytime this happens he's an effective leader, but shit gets dark
Idk how far ahead of the video you are in the series but you’re going to love it. Heart break excitement revelations it’s got basically everything with the end scene showing future mutants to reappear in the show.

I have to admit that when i heard they were bringing back the original X-Men cartoon I had a mix of joy and fear. With Disney's track record as of late I felt that this could go bad very very easily. Luckily those fears were set to rest. This show is amazing and a great love letter to the original. Please keep watching cause it gets even better.

One of the central themes of the X-Men, which was present back in the original series, is the idea that there's a limited amount of power in the world. If the mutants have more power, that takes it away from 'normal humans'; this concept has pitted humans against humans for thousands of years, all because some people can't share.
This is one of those shows I was upset I waited so long to watch. GREAT show and can't wait to see some reactions later down the road.
