Robert Robinson This show saved alot of us. My parents were afraid of cable. This, CASEY KASEM, ROCK 'N AMERICA & other video shows was it for videos. If you could stay awake.😫
@@tavaresraven238 we had cable and MTV back home. I went to my grandparents every summer for one month. I would have gone insane if I nothing to look forward to watching.
I remember watching Friday night videos at 1:35 on channel 4 in dc then the same show at 2:35 on channel 2 I had some great times with my friends watching it
I can remember this night cause I was stranded at work and couldn't make the trip home for a snow storm. I was forced to stay the night with one of my coworkers at our bosses home which was in a trailer park behind the motel restaurant where we worked as cooks. I was not having a good time as I recall cause it was maybe the first time I was away from my wife. We had been married 4 or maybe 5 years at the time, she was just so afraid I was out with another woman, gosh she was so wrong.
When watching this episode I did not realize how amazing Kool and the gang was I k ow they had a number of hits but sadly they never got the attention they deserved
Sadly, they seem to be known for Celebration and nothing else, and that's what most classic hits stations play if they include them. They are seen as "too urban" for most stations unfortunately, even though they were very popular in the early to mid '80s. The female equivalent is probably The Pointer Sisters, who were also very popular around the same time, and also get an occasional spin (about once every other day on most classic hits stations), but don't have much of a following. Check out another episode I've posted featuring The Commodores, a rival to K&TG in popularity and success. Sadly, soul/funk is seen as the new jazz/blues in this generation of rap/hip-hop, being seen as "Classical Pop" to the younger generation that's considered "highbrow" to them.
@@pannoni8449 I agree with the too Urban or pretty much too RNB. There were a lot of black groups that had one hit that crossed over and was considered one-hit wonders to white listeners and that was not the truth. If you were not a listener of RNB then of course you would think they had one hit and that was it. Debarge is a prime example of this. They made one video and that video is for a song called Rhythm of the Night. They had more hits than that but if you never listen to RNB, you would not know. Kool and the Gang had so many hits in the 70s and 80s and a couple in the 90s. The lead J.T Taylor did a duet with Regina Belle for the Tap starring the late Gregory Hines. I never saw the movie but I loved that song and it brings back so many memories.
I hated to see Sears go down like this! They should have never axed that catalog! It was an American tradition! This is why Sears filed for bankruptcy!
