I recently adjusted my Roth IRA to 50% in SCHD, 25% in SCHX, and 25% in SCHG. For my Roth 401k, I went with 70% in Vanguard's S&P 500 Index, 20% in the Vanguard Growth Index, and 10% in the Vanguard International Index. My goal is to grow my $350k to over $1 million within the next three years.

It might be worth considering a financial advisor to avoid constant adjustments. Your selections are strong, especially for a $350k portfolio.

I agree-having an advisor manage my investments has been invaluable since my work schedule doesn't allow time for in-depth analysis. Thankfully, my portfolio has grown fivefold in just four years, reaching nearly $1 million today.

@@missedfortune Can you please explain how this would work? My mother is 84 and wouldn't qualify for a policy of her own probably, due to age, but it sounds like you may be saying she could somehow use our IUL policy? Would love it if you would explain how to do this in our situation. Thank you in advance.

I like Doug but what he says isn't always accurate. You're not going to open a new IUL and net 8 to 10 percent a year. He talks like that will actually happen which it never does. The returns are different each year. And the costs of the policy are higher in the first few years. You won't break even on the money you contribute to the policy for 5 to 7 years. Then you start making a profit. It's a long term proposition. You just don't get a new IUL, start funding it, and make an 8 percent positive return on your money right out of the gate. You can get an 8% return in the index, but not a net return on investment like that. I wish he wouldn't say that. Eventually the IUL works great, becomes cheap to own, and will produce much better income than being in the market.

@@victor4advice what you posted above was not at all what was said...there are several examples here that discuss 5 year rollout windows and such. Never was it said that the policy would return 8% in the first year... As you're aware, it's a lot of information to cram into one video here. Hence we have 1500+ videos on our channel, several books, and a comprehensive sales process that ensure all of those conversations are had before someone purchases their IUL.

Since Roth IRAs are tax-free, you get to keep more of the hard-earned money you've invested. I’m considering investing over $300k, but I’m unsure how to proceed.

Storing fixed-income assets in tax-deferred retirement accounts instead of taxable accounts offers additional benefits. If you're unsure how to navigate the market, consider seeking advice from a financial counselor.

I completely agree. I’m 60 and newly retired, with about $730K in non-retirement funds, no debt, and only a small amount in retirement accounts compared to my overall portfolio over the past three years. Honestly, the importance of a good financial advisor can be overlooked but never denied-you just need to do your research to find a reputable one.

Yes, all 401k's has never been taxed. Therefore, you do need to pay the taxes on the transition, then the income produced by the IUL will all be tax free. It's an amazing product if you work with someone who knows what they're doing.

You could use a self-directed, Roth Ira, or 401(k) and invest in anything tax-free. You’re just glossing over the Roth, even though it’s the most powerful tax reinvestment vehicle. You can find shame on you.

Was the commission costs of this IUL ever mentioned or is that part of the "fine print"? These commissioned based tax advisors are a dime a dozen. All believe they have some God-given right to the funds you have spent years accumulating in order to live comfortably in retirement. These days it is easier to do your own research and make decisions based on your specific conditions and goals. Especially disregard the idiotic tax advisor advertisement posts on these vids.
