Congratulations to me! After much binge-watching I am caught up on your videos. One of the things I admire (besides Amy's infectious giggle) is how funny you both are and how you refrain from cuss words.
Well done! You both did brilliantly. We made the journey in the opposite direction and met you at the notorious Woolhampton Lock. You gave us some brilliant advice, which was greatly needed, as we had only been boating for a few weeks - thank you.😊😊 I knew at the time you were familiar but couldn't think of where from, then, all became clear when you popped up on RUclips. Keep up the good work, folks!
They are not life jackets they are bouyancy aids. A life jacket is much larger and is designed to support somebody without them having to swim, if they become unconscious this is a particular advantage. A bouyancy aid will not support you without you swimming, whence the word ‘aid’, it helps you to stay afloat by swimming.
@@GrahamM561 Not that it really matters but I don't really agree with you there, Graham. A boyancy aid is intended to assist your floating when you're swimming or treading water. A lifejacket supports you even if you're unconscious, as you mention, and they're both wearing inflatable life jackets which do that. You can't really swim in them which means they're life jackets.
So glad you enjoyed the first taste of the tidal Thames. You were both just as nervous and excited as we were. 😂👍loved the Vlog so exciting to watch x❤
@@BoatTime Well, that's almost verbatim the famous quote of Neil Armstrong stepping for the first time onto the surface of the moon: "It's a small step for Humankind but a Giant Leap for me!". And then he did a cartwheel and three backward somersaults! (recollections may vary). Looking forward to more of your adventures.
Woooooooo! Amazing! ❤❤ The thought of tidal rivers still terrifies us but hopefully we'll follow your boat steps one day 😁 And Stu heard Wes sing boop boop boop bobbing along!! 😃 i rewound to hear it 😂 yaaaaaay
Eee thank you!! ☺️ you’ll smash it! It’s not as scary as it feels the first time, but it is deffo nerve wracking! Hehe we love love your little jingle!! Always sing it when we are about to watch your vlogs! ❤️
I'm kind of intrigued 🤔with your enthusiasm for London, because I was born and bred there, but couldn't wait to get out into the sticks. Whatever floats your boat, ay. 😉😏
Brilliant video guys! Made us chuckle with your experience with large wakes! As we battle waves on the Lough Erne. Top tip turn into the wake before it hits you at a bit of an angle ro reduce the impact from the broadside. Great to see you wearing life jackets as well!
Thanks guys! 😊 You are pro's at big waves and rough waters now! I feel like we'd be so nervous on Lough Erne! Would still love to do it though! 🌞to be honest, since this vlog was filmed we've also done more rough water so watching this back we are thinking "what were we scared of" but it was our first time so we will let us off haha! 😂
Amy and Wes brilliant cruising. You are in control, where are you taking us around London. I can see you both cruising across the Mersey next year, don't worry you hire a captain to go with you. 💚
Brilliant, loved every minute! Can't wait to see you go through the centre of London with the Clippers dashing back and forth! We loved our trip to St Kats (even if we had an expensive engine failure when we got there!), it's a wonderful experience.
When you’re going through wake try not to let it hit you broadside, turn a little so your bow goes over them instead of the side on. Well done , you did amazing, I just remember how freaked out you were the first year and now you’re just old hat at it. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰🙋🏼♀️
Hi Amy Wes, Well done on your first Tidal stretch of the Thames. I wondered if you would enter the tidal stretch as the tide was about to Ebb, as that would have helped your speed, rather than having to push against a Flood tide. Wes did a magnificent job turning into the Grand Union using the flow of the River to help turn him. Great to see Rufus and Doops. An excellent video. Thank you. Spoolbox.
With my little 14 footer day boat I quickly learned, after barely moving for ten minutes with the throttle at maximum, to not attempt to fight against the tide. If I ever did get into that situation, my response was to moor up inside a dock entrance or some kind of sheltered area of dead water and kill the engine and simply wait it out in the cabin .... Eat my lunch, put my feet up and chill out.
Normally you continue in the direction you are going until you can look into the leg of the Y to check if traffic is coming out, then you can turn safely into the Y. This avoids collisions because you can see where you are going.
Thank you! 😊 He doesn't have one as they don't really make them small enough but we always have his carrier easily accessible to chuck him in if we needed! Not ideal, but the best we can do 😊
So funny, I'm moored just outside Oxford and some of the boats pass me with a bigger wash than that tourist boat, yes I have to put everything away or its all over the boat. Well done both
I used to top up thst tank every day, but it was running straight out the overflow. Dont do it, find out rhe xorrect level by leaving it for a day or ao Use a universal ready mix coolant .
Certainly wouldn't advise swimming in the Thames. I went to school at Teddington and school basically backed onto the river. School pal was swimming and got pulled under and died by some debris coming down the river.
You need to use the crotch strap on your life jackets they are useless without them and if you think that those were big waves then don't go sailing off the South &West Coast of Ireland where the waves can be 3 to 5 metres or more and strong winds
Congratulations to me! After much binge-watching I am caught up on your videos. One of the things I admire (besides Amy's infectious giggle) is how funny you both are and how you refrain from cuss words.
Wow, congrats haha! That's impressive! 😊💪🏻 thank you so much for going back and watching them all!
i loved the edit of the music cutting out with the sneezes. it gave me a little chuckle. another great ep!
Haha glad someone noticed that, I was quite chuffed with that idea 😂🫢

Wow, what an adventure! You even pasted a piece of Scary Music under the bit where the wake of that first tourist boat hit you, fantastic!
😂😂 for dramatic affect!
Glad you enjoyed haha ☺️

Brilliant episode, so exciting. Ride the tide out and use less fuel. Happy days. :)
We were surprised how little we needed the engine, great news! Thank you Dave ☺️
We are just getting ready to leave teddington and found your vlog very useful “ thank-you” take care NB Bluebelle
Congratulations! You both did an awesome job. I don’t know what you were worrying about - you had no problem at all.
Thank you so much! First time for boaty things are usually super scary but looking back its always fine haha!
Great turn into Brentford guys. Always nerve racking on tidal waters. 👍👍👌👌
Thank you!! 😊👍🏻 We feel a lot more confident now after doing it a couple of times!
Well done you two, next time you won’t be as nervous. X

Hi Amy and Wes. Well done for your first trip on the tidal Thames. Those trip boats certainly produced some waves. Take care. Nick
Thanks so much! 😊 looking back, those waves were nothing compared to what's to come on the tidal bit through London haha! 🤭
You have made it to London! How frigging AWESOME.❤❤❤❤❤

I think you guys are brilliant, you give me the courage to venture out of the marina…❤
You can do it! There’s a lot of water out there to explore ☺️💪🏻
Wes the life jackets you have have a Jock strap on them , WEAR IT because if you fall in the jacket will ride up and will be useless.

Thanks! 😃 We definitely feel more confident 💪🏻
For me its home been on the tideway from the age of 14 coxing sculling rowing and powered boats stay safe enjoy ❤
Great to see chain on your anchor, not always done on some narrowboats.
We were advised well by the boat yard we got our anchor from! 👍🏻
Normally you continue in the direction you are going until you can look into the leg of the Y to check if traffic is coming out, then you can turn safely into the Y. This avoids collisions because you can see where you are going.

@@BoatTime What no bunny life jackets!! We may have found a niche in the market. Take care xx
if that scares you a bit with the wake try 32 foot swells on a 800 ton ship
Terrifyingly good fun.
Thank you! 😊
WELL DONE, YOU! (Yes, I yelled that at you.)
Haha, THANK YOU!! 😊
Basically, it means you will have have an outgoing tide up yer chuff. I aviation we call it a tail wind.
O does look scary but lots to seeamazing . They don't slow down either do they big scary boats xxxx
So funny, I'm moored just outside Oxford and some of the boats pass me with a bigger wash than that tourist boat, yes I have to put everything away or its all over the boat.
Well done both
Thank you! 😊
To turn in to a lock you bow needs to be poibting in to the fliw of the river if waves are going to push you, try facing the wave.
Hi Guys
We love watching your vlogs but that anchor lol looks about suitable for a 13ft GRP.
Its definitely suitable for our boat don’t worry, it’s a fold out anchor. If you watch episode 108, we show it in full there.

So that boat overtook you then pulled in and moored?
Yeah haha! It was a trip boat so it was pulling over to drop the passengers off!
@@BoatTime bloody idiot could have pulled in behind you 🤦♂️😁
The trip boat was really shifting, is there not a speed limit on the river?
Certain sections have faster limits so they can really open up the taps! 😳
❤
That was quite rude of that trip boat, passing on the left and then immediately cutting you off to reach a dock on the right.
Looking back I think you’re right 🤔 we were so focused on the waves we didn’t even notice haha!
Wtg enjoy
you guys are so funny sound like big chickens but you got this
Looking back I might have to agree 😂 it was our first time to easy on us haha!
Thank you ☺️
The tide will carry you in rhe direction you are going, in my experience.
Better to go with tide then against
You have to go at the booked times by the environment agency 😊
💖💖💖🇦🇺
I love your take on canal life. You shouldn't keep your anchor and chain in the gas locker. BSS examinators don't like it.
Thank you! 😊 We know 😳 lets just hope they dont watch the vlog haha
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Your making such a big deal about a little wave.
You need a rear view mirror😂
😂 we’d need a big one for sure!
You need to use the crotch strap on your life jackets they are useless without them and if you think that those were big waves then don't go sailing off the South &West Coast of Ireland where the waves can be 3 to 5 metres or more and strong winds
These two are like children, they are winding me up, it is time to move onto something more adult.
No worries! Thanks for watching! Bye 🙂👋🏻
I really hope that you and Wess never fall off the boat, but if you do, I'll take Rufus!
Haha fair enough! 🤭😂
For around an hour either side of high tide or low tide there’s a thing called slack water
Interestingly we found out that at Teddington it’s so far away from the sea it basically doesn’t have any slack water! ☺️
Woohoo!
@@BoatTime somebody stole it 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
And particularly if there is lots of fresh water coming down river.
Big!!!!! Are you serious?
