This is really helpful. I recently wrote my IELTS test where I scored 7.5 band in my listening. I can recall struggling with this section, I lost concentration and missed almost the whole questions on the map. Also, I never realised the questions are in order, which meant I should've followed the questions instead of the letters. I'll be retaking the test in October because I need to score at least 8.5 in my listening and 8.0 in reading.
Hey Asiya, today i received the results. I am VERY thankful for your videos!!!! speaking 7 writing 6 listening 7.5 reading 7.5 overall 7 my detailed experience: 1. I am satisfied with the overall band, even though it could've been better. the night before the test, i couldn't sleep because i was so stressed out. i started overthinking 'what if' 2. i think i got the lowest score in the writing part because i didn't plan it well, i started correcting things in the last minute because i misjudged some steps in the graph. speaking of which, the graph was about extracting oil for the production of perfume. i had been practicing all kinds of maps, graphs, pie charts etc., except the graph about some process lol, so my advice for everyone is to practice writing everything. also, i remember having one spelling mistake, but it was too late to correct it. 3. when it comes to the speaking part, i can't express enough how anxious i was, i literally started shaking and fidgeting whole my hands were on the table, hence the whole table trembled. i was speaking so fast, but thankfully with a clear accent so i guess the examiner didn't have difficulties trying to understand me. i corrected myself about 4 times, and i cringe when i remember this, but the word 'BASICALLY' was constantly in my mind so almost every sentence started with it. when it comes to grammar, i made one mistake, i literally mixed past perfect and present perfect, and immediately realized i messed up, and didn't correct myself, but judging by the examiner's expression i believe she knew that i realized i made a mistake. i honestly thought i'd get band 6 or lower for speaking. 4. QUESTIONS: i was honestly amazed how easy the questions were, that's why i was kinda disappointed that even tho they weren;t hard, i was still nervous. the examiner asked me about the apartment i live in, about the view from my window, about the jobs people in my home country do, about whether people in the past had to work more physical jobs, about whether there will be more job positions in the future, about the effect technology has on society and why, and the cue card was to describe which job i would not like to do. 5. reading wasn;t as hard as i thought it would be, but ofc, i messed up the headlines. the first reading passage was about some birds. the second was about theater and philosophy. the third reading passage was about modern technology, mobile phones, communication. 6. listening was even easier. it's important not to lose track, and if you do, just keep going. IN CONCLUSION: the particular ielts exam I've taken was in my opinion easier than the mock tests i had taken. however, my advice is for you to prepare for the worst, and expect the best. practice everything you can find online! and yeah, no one can mess up with you as your own mind. during the speaking part, take a deep breath, rather pause for a second than say 'uh', or fill it with sth else, and just be yourself. i believe this test doesn't;t just judge the language, but the analytic ability as well. you have to be able to think. i believe the examiner saw that i could think logically and deduce things, that's probably one of the reasons i got the score 7, however, the main thing is JUST KEEP TALKING. even if you jump from the topic, you have time to come back. if you think you;ll be too nervous, just remember that i started shaking so bad the whole table moved from its initial position lol, i was very awkward and i still got the good band, so will you.
Hi Katarina, thank you for sharing your experience! That's great that you've passed your exam and that is what matters. Congratulation. Good luck with whatever you took this exam for!
Thank you very much Asiya. I barely practiced and prepared for the test but thanks to your channel and tips I was able to score an overall band 7. (future test takers this doesn't mean you don't have to prepare well, it happened maybe because i'm already familiar with the english language since I was a child).
