- The key to preventing colon cancer is detection. Today, patients have more options than ever before, specifically in the form of a traditional colonoscopy and at-home stool test known as Cologuard. Dr. Alex Crean, a leading colorectal surgeon in Jacksonville, Florida, discusses the difference between a colonoscopy and Cologuard and what may be best for most patients.

I was never offered this by the doc. I have no bleeding, and I had an endoscopy already
Cologuard missed my stage 3 rectal cancer, it was found 18 months later by a real colonoscopy. Doctors said i had this cancer for years and cologuard missed it. Went through 8 cycles of folfox chemo, 5 weeks of 3500mg a day of capcitibine, 5 weeks of daily radiation and finally a surgery to remove my rectum. I will have a colostomy bag the rest of my life, If you think a colonoscopy is inconvenient try a colostomy bag. Had my cancer been found 18 months earlier it likely would have been surgery only and no colostomy bag.
@@FloridaNewbieExplores read his comment carefully, he had RECTAL cancer
If Cologuard is such an easy test but not as accurate as a colonoscopy, why not perform the test every year insteady of 3 years?
Very helpful thumbs up
It will be interesting at what threshold for testing preventatively will be diagnostic, and then hold the crown of the gold standard.
