I've really been enjoying your videos. I've actually noticed improvements in my own playing and am looking forward to actually investing in one of your courses. Thank you.
This is a great reminder even for more intermediate players on how to approach breaking down/learning a new song. I know I’m guilty of launching into the mandolinese solo and licks before really having the chords and vocal melody locked down on the fretboard!
love that comment, Gina! - can really be important to like you say, have the simple vocal melody locked down and mastered before hoping/aiming to do other things!
I feel like there is a name for having a bar of cut time or 2/4 in there for appalachian/bluegrass music. Like a "step back" or something. Seems like a fairly common little meter change in bluegrass. I think the Beatles put that little nugget in a few of their songs too. Seems to add to the turnaround feel. Great vid, keep it up!
“If it sounds good, it IS good”
The best lesson ever taught !
Thanks Chris
I appreciate that a lot! That’s a line from my dad - good one! And very welcome! 😀

Thanks, Stephen! Different vocab in different circles I would reckon!
I think you are referring to a Backstep. Clinch Mtn certainly has an instance of this. Maybe not I dunno.
think you're right there Shane - one beat in that case with CMB instead of two here
