    What I heard is that either 20 watt Valve Amp or 50 watt Solid State would perfectly fill the bill.
    I used to play a Marshall MG30CFX 30 watts 1x10" and it was enough for band practice. I upgraded to a Orange Crush Pro 60 watts, this one has the advantage of external speaker connections.
    I may upgrade to a Valve Amp, I was unsure if going for a 20 watt tube amp, but this video shows it's quite good power.
    Once I had to play a small/medium size gig with this 30 watts Marshall amp, and unfortunately, the rest of the band could not hear me, I could barely hear myself, I believe it was because it was quite a big room and sound esparce too much. I think the best solution would be Micing through PA for better sound distribution with not too much loudness on stage, and maybe more speakers on stage for better monitoring.

    I think a lot of the amps sounded weak is because the Peavey Windsor is a 16ohm cab. Amps like the Joyo Zombie need an 8ohm cab to be at 20 watts. If you played it with a 16 ohm cab, you'll only hear half its power (10 watts).

    Speaker efficiency and impedance is as important as wattage

    The dialing of the amps is key here. At 50w, you weren’t past noon. The 20w was doing great

    Please play the 5 watt amp thru the 412 cab. I bet it will be a lot louder. In fact, you should have played everything thru the same cab for a true test. Playing a 5 watt amp thru a tiny speaker next to a 20 watt amp thru a 412 is a flawed test.

    I find it very hard to believe that the Marshall MG50 with the 12" can sound so anemic. Actually ALL amps sounded anemic in this video, it's as though no amp can really stand its ground. I'm perplexed.

    • @pedrogarciarobleto
      @pedrogarciarobleto 2 года назад +6

      I believe this is because the amps were not miced, instead, it was a room microphone recording?

    • @JosePineda-jn8jk
      @JosePineda-jn8jk Год назад

      Yeah that microphone was compressing everything so the loudest amp sounded relatively quiet. Really need a DB meter and just redo without the drummer and then find out how loud the drummer is on the meter as well and compare 🤷🏽‍♂️

      I have an Ibanez TBX 150R Tone Blaster X (2x12” combo solid state amp) it’s barely loud enough for blast beat metal over the acoustic drums in a basement setting. I have it as loud as it will go till the speakers break up. I pushed it through a 4x12 cab (possible) and only about 10% volume gain there. (Not to mention stressing the amp a bit) I’d always recommend a 4x12 cab and 100w tube or* solid state equivalent (so long and it’s intended to power a 4x12) and your golden. Can’t go wrong. 🤘🏻

I've had it as loud as it will go till the speakers break up. I tried it through a 4x12 cab and there was only about 10% volume gain there. For BLAST BEAT METAL I’d have to recommend a 4x12 cab paired with 100w tube or solid state equivalent for band practice. 🤘🏻It's also worth mentioning the significant difference between solid state and tube wattage as well as the brand of gear or particular piece of gear you are using.

    • @carbongenetics3991

      I would recommend combo amps for the beginner guitarist who ever intends to do band practice. Guitar distortion pedals and effects pedals are usually intended for use with an IR (impulse response) of a guitar amplifier/cab (or plugin) to sound good and would require the use of a guitar amplifier to power the volume anyhow. That's why combo amps are a bang-for-the-buck deal including some power with some quality distortion. Combo amps are also convenient in size, weight, ease of use and reliability and all at somewhat of a reasonable price tag. Always go for as many watts as you find available in what your looking for, you’ll thank me later.

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 2 года назад

      @@carbongenetics3991 I doubt everyone will "thank you later". Getting a 100 watt amp is overkill for most people. Any venue that requires that much power will have an adequate pa system. For most people, 20 watts of valve power is more than you will ever need. If you must, then go for 50, but you'll never need to turn it up over 3. The only reason you'll need 100 watts is if you have to show off.

      @@castleanthrax1833 Let me edit this old message for you. Cause a few points may have been missed. 1- Never said "everyone" or "most people" : I stated "blast beat metal" and "solid state combo amp". 2- Never mentioned a "venue" : I stated "basement setting" (+ any adequate PA system has even more wattage than a guitar amp so that doesn't really help answer the main topic question) 3- What I meant by "you'll thank me later": I stated "Always go for as many watts AS YOU FIND AVAILABLE IN WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR" . That could mean any amount of watts. You'll thank me later as in you won't have to upgrade weak gear later on when you realize it sucks, and waste money that could have gone towards something better in the first place.

      @@carbongenetics3991 Let me edit my comment for you. I didn't mean "everyone", I meant "anyone". Except maybe the store that gets more money for the 100 watt amp when all you need is 20. Or the chiropractor who fixes your back from hauling round a huge, unnecessarily large amplifier. Very few people require more than 20 watts. You sound like you're peddling 100 watt amps.
