  • A lot of the audience for the Warcraft film where a bit confused on the Fel-magic, as well as some of the Fel infused orcs. This scene provides a lot of context to that, and it features Grommash Hellscream himself! Such an underrated film

      In the lore, Blackhand was a puppet warchief. Gul'dan had him appointed becasue it was easier to control the Horde through him then directly - the chieftains would not listen to an emaciated, gnarled wealking. Another deviation from the lore in this film, as Gul'dan here is clearly in command officially.

      I think the real problem with making a Warcraft movie is that as the game was meant to be fast-paced, a lot of events were happening and you can't crush this into an hour and a half. The most disappointing part is the lack of a proper intro for non-fans of Blizzard work. Just like, 2 minutes like they did for LOTR
      Tell us about Draenor and Azeroth so we know who orcs really are and why humans never saw them before, tell us about the titans and the burning legion so we feel what danger lies under the ''gift of death magic'' and you already start off with a better context.

      The orc animations in Warcraft cinematics has always been surprisingly well made, especially the mouths. The smiles, like you pointed out, their habit of baring teeth when angry, hell, just their talking animation is a delight to see. Because it really shows how much they thought about this. Like, how the fuck to you string a coherent sentence that others can understand with those tusks. Why, large mouth movements. Their mouths always open more than humans and elves as they have to compensate, which leads to a very expressive facial language that fits to the orcs habit of being very expressive and showing their emotions clearly.
      The sound as well. I love how their speech is a bit thicker. Like, their voices aren't just deeper but their speech just sounds slightly muffled because they are after all speaking much more through their teeth compared to other races. Their F and Th sounds are also much more pronounced while their S sounds mixes with a bit of F sound due to them probably having to put their tongue further forward to match their protruding jawline.
      I absolutely adore just how much attention to detail Blizzard can have in their animations. To bad this got deleted.

When I watched it a second time with my father and his friend (both of whose knowledge starts and ends at "it's a video game or something"), it became clear that the plot was missing a lot of exposition and even minor details that would have filled them in enough to at least enjoy the film.
    Their general consensus was "I didn't care about the characters and I didn't know what was going on".
    It wasn't horrible enough visually for them to completely space out.
    To me the movie makes sense, even though it was a bit lame. To them I imagine it was like watching a smash cut of humans fighting big green guys.
    You don't feel robbed of your time, but you do feel like paying for a ticket, snacks, etc. wasn't warranted at the end of the experience.

This scene, for example, would have had a great payoff when Blackhand tells Gul'dan to keep fighting during the mak'gora with Durotan. It shows Blackhand is all about honor and not conquest. Without this scene, Blackhand's semi-half turn, and subsequent monster form made no sense.

It should absolutely be told truer to the source material, as all of the first/second war stuff and into WC3 (which would need to be slightly retconned/expanded upon) is really good storytelling and would all naturally fit very perfect as a series of films or TV seasons. Multiple seasons would definitely be the way to go. Allows for establishing multiple characters and groups of those characters, and tracking several plots along through the course of the season. A season 1 which introduces everything on both sides, without even crossing through the portal, would be a good start. Show the Alliance and Medivh doing their things, Gul'dan and the Horde doing theirs, with perhaps some establishment of the other forces in the world (dragons, elementals, trolls, etc). Second season starts and it's the first war. Third season begins the second war, which had a LOT going on, and continuing into the fourth season with the demise of Draenor. After this, a time break before WCIII, where we would get a season of Thrall rallying the orcs and leaving the Eastern Kingdoms, a season of Alliance/Scourge and Orc/Night Elf, the battle at Mount Hyjal, and of course Arthas' journey. There's 7 or 8 seasons' worth of stuff right there.

    *1) I saw a cinematic from World of Warcraft in which Grommash refuses to drink the demon-blood. What gives?*
    Answer: You watched the cinematic for the Warlords of Draenor expansion. In this cinematic, the hooded orc seen by Grommash is Garrosh Hellscream, his son. He went back into time to convince his father to refuse the demon blood. It is canon, but it is an alternate timeline Garrosh. In the original Warcraft series (which takes place before World of Warcraft), the main-timeline Grommash Hellscream does drink the demon blood, but eventually sacrifices himself by killing Mannoroth, redeeming himself. In the Warlords of Draenor cinematic, Grommash is already made away of Mannaroth and Gul'dan's intentions, so that's why he questions Mannaroth and ends up just killing him then and there.
    *2) Is this movie canon?*
    Answer: No, it is simply based off the beginning of the Warcraft series, more specifically Warcraft 1: Orcs and Humans. It has several key plot differences, both due to director's choice in keeping the story somewhat unique, as well as to apparently make it easier to put into a single movie format. Opinions on these changes vary according to who you ask, but the film is its own continuity. There are novel(s?) that take place in the movie continuity, but the majority that you see in the bookstore coincide with the Warcraft main-continuity, and so features and alignes with the Warcraft 1-3 and WoW story.
    *3) I thought Orgrim Doomhammer was a Blackrock Orc?*
    Answer: In the canon-universe he is, but he is Frostwolf in the film. It's just one of those changes I had mentioned.
    *4) Why was this scene deleted?*
    Answer: I dunno, I can't think of a very good reason for it to be. It's not long at all and provides a lot of context to the pivotal differences between those who accepted the demon-blood and those who didn't... beats me.
    *5) Will there be a Warcraft 2 movie?*
    Answer: Very unlikely. Despite the film being fairly well-received by fans, the critiques weren't very kind to it. Here is a link to the director Duncan Jones defending the film. It didn't sell fantastically in the US or UK, but did very well in China. Despite this, Duncan Jones himself it is very unlikely to happen. ruclips.net/video/4HD9MPXLTvU/видео.html

    I will say it until my last breath. As much as I enjoyed this movie, it was the wrong story to introduce Warcraft. I feel that the story that would best serve that purpose would be Varian's. Imagine a Conan style story. King, now gladiator. Fights his way to freedom. Reclaims the throne. Introduces us to Orcs, night elves, blood elves, arcane magic and dragons. In addition, his adventures take him from Stormwind, all throughout Kalimdor and back. It would have been absolutely epic. Ah well.

      @thahoule7924 7 месяцев назад

      nah. varian would be far, FAR too late in the lore.

    • @SignalWarden
      @SignalWarden 7 месяцев назад

      @@thahoule7924That doesn't matter though. There is no point to drop into the lore where you aren't going back in time anyway. Even if you start at the first war, you're jumping backward to the Draenor war, Fall of Argus and War of the Ancients to explain stuff.
      New viewers don't need to know all of the details of the world, just the details of this particular story. Varian's story is uniquely compelling to new people, relevant to the world, filled with iconic characters for long time players and revolves around a small central cast to keep things focused. Add in Varian as a natural audience surrogate and it's ideally suited as a mass market entry point.

      actually probabbly the editing was done by the director and blizzard have 0 say on it. Since you cant make a movie 3-4hs long and they need to fallow the standards.

      @Wowreference 4 года назад +6

      Yeah, that's the problem with a lot of video game-based movies. They add too much information and don't give the audience much reason to care about what's going on because the plot skips introductions and only covers part of the story. It was good for what it was, but it was a film that would only appeal to those familiar with the lore.
