I met Fred MacMurray when I was a teenager working as a soda jerk at the corner drug store in Greenville, CA. It was a summer day in the mid 1960s when he, his wife and two of their children came in for milkshakes or ice cream sodas. I was working and had learned to be professional, so I didn't ask for his autograph, but he did say he was camping up at Round Valley Lake. So, after work, I took my bike up the 3 miles of narrow, windy paved road, walking much of the way because it was so steep and my bicycle had but one gear. I found his campsite, got his autograph, chatted a moment, then headed back down the hill. I lost control on a sharp curve, going SO fast and crashed. Lots of road rash, torn clothing, broken glasses and late home from work - boy was I in trouble from Mom. But I had Fred MacMurray's autograph. In pencil. Years later, when rummaging through my childhood keepsakes, I discovered what happens to paper and pencil script with age. It yellows, fades and deteriorates and the only thing left is this memory I share with you. I'm 70 now and I still remember all the joy and the pain. Life is good.
Jim McClain Thank you so much for sharing your story. So many little things in there resonate with me as I am 66 years old. People our age are watching a very different world from the one we grew up in emerge. Soda jerks and riding bicycles 3 miles are foreign things today. I wouldn’t take a million dollars for the memories we have and the privilege of growing up as Baby Boomers. We knew the “great stars” of Hollywood, like Mr. MacMurray.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and home with us. U felt your dad was the real deal. And classy .as yourself ❤️👍t. I truly miss these kind of down home modest men !!! Your father is definitely that I'm sure your mother was that and that's why you seem so well and grounded . Much ❤️to you and God Bless you.
Omg I wasn't prepared for how emotional this video made me feel. What a beautiful home with beautiful memories. I miss my dad. I am forever grateful for him.
I really liked this piece. The fact that he didn’t remodel when they moved in was a lesson for me. Just saving the house as you find it and bringing in your own pieces is so much more genuine.
I love the decorating in 1930's-1960's from the country cottage to modern(late 50's-early 60's which is back today with identical furntiture). I love the houses in the movies; Leave Her to Heaven, Christmas in Connecticut and Mr Blandings Builds his Dream House.
They do live forever, and so will you. It's but a moment in time that we have those separations, then unite for the rest of Eternity. Think of it this way, they are now on the best vacation you could ever describe. Comfortable, happy, not having to worry about daily needs. Be happy for them, and you'll be there eventually.
Because she grew up in a fine place at such a fine time gone by. With good parents too. I wish for all children to grow up in loving homes like this. I could only wish you know? (Haha! Don't mind this foolish dork.) I'm just here for country home ideas and Boy! What have I found, indeed.
In the golden Hollywood era the children of movie stars who grew up on a ranch or rural area seem to have lead a more peaceful life into their adulthood as in the Fred MacMurray Joel McCrea families.
Your father was an American treasure. Had forgotten he married June Haver, actress. Sure that I read it when it cae out in Photoplay mag. I think they can be proud of rearing a wonderful daughter.
I grew up in a little town on the central coast of California and we had two TV channels. Late night TV programming was re-runs of My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, I Love Lucy, and Hazel. My mom worked late at a restaurant, so I would watch TV and wait for her to come home. Fred MacMurray was a big part of my childhood and I hope I learned all the lessons he tried to teach his boys. I never imagined what his private life was and I'm so glad to visit his ranch and hear his daughter's memories.
She has an incredibly relaxing voice, Perfectly at peace with who she is in her life. I hear in her voice a kind and loving person. That place is special, uncorrupted and as it was; one expects Fred to walk in at any time. I'm sure she hears the voices of her parents all the time. Family and history are everywhere, and I remember her father as a result of seeing where he lived. A wonderful and well-done interview.
Ms MacMurray is a fantastic story teller. I imagine myself sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, on a warm summer night listening to "Fred's daughter" so eloquently tell of days gone by on the MacMurray Ranch.😊
I have gone back time after time to listen and to watch. It makes me feel so comfortable listening to her tell about her parents and their wonderful home. Today all we see is these big million dollar homes with no personality in them but here you can see a family home and just picture them from the swing on the porch to them sitting around the fire place at night. She tells such a wonderful story of their life and the sound of her voice tells how loving her family was. You can almost hear the voices as you go through each room. Imagine everyone around the table talking and laughing. The table for 25 cents must bring back such memories for her. I can remember doing things with just me and my dad and it brings a tear to me. Her family was so lucky to have that wonderful home and such wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing 🥰
Kate MacMurray is obviously a classy lady- but how could she not be, with a lady like June Haver and a gentleman like Fred MacMurray as parents? What a wonderful video! Thank you!
Reminds me of farmhouses in New England. Great to see original architecture and decor being Preserved and celebrated. No need to tear everything out and put in marble and glass and grey paint everywhere. Beautiful home.
Had the wonderful chance to stay and eat dinner here when the Gallo winery purchased the property.... one of the stipulations with the purchase was to leave things as is... as you can see they did ... I will never forget this visit.. nothing but a class family...The Mc Murray's.
When l was a little girl....l knew if l went to see a movie and Fred MacMurray was the star....it would be great. Just a natural born actor. Everyone's Father figure. Thank you for sharing a part of his life. 🌿🕊
You never had to worry about taking a child to one of his movies. He is someone to emulate instead of the current movie stars. He would have been a great neighbor.
My mother cleaned house for Fred Macmurray when I was growing up. She always talked about how beautiful the home and land were and how many knick-knacks she had to dust! She loved every minute of the time she spent there. And obviously after 40 odd years I have a fondness for the place because of her too. Thanks for the lovely video. What a great many memories you have!
I loved your father. What an AMAZING actor, and man. My most favorite of all was "Follow Me Boys". How he touched the lives of all those boys and turned them into good, wholesome, and humbled adults. Just as he was. That's what I always saw in him. Even in "My Three Sons" he was able to give answers to Uncle Charlie and the boys that sounded so real and natural. He was a humble man and it showed in his work. You have to be so proud to call him Daddy. RIP Fred MacMurry.
I love your farm. I hope you live there now. I loved my Irish Dad like you loved yours. My home in the mountains is full of antiques from Grandma and Mom and my own .Every little thing reminds me of them. On my 100 year old butcher block with the wooden rolling pin I have Grandma's plate from 1930s that she would defrost her steaks on Saturday night. She cracked it one night washing it then glued it back together. Now I am 76 and it has stayed glued all these years and I touch it as I walk by. I smile as I touch her meat grinder held to the side of the counter and I reach for her wooden recipe box with the rooster on the lid and open it to all her hand written recipes many the her Yugoslavian ones. I run my hand over the wooden box that holds her silverware that she saved for buying 4 pieces at a time for $3.95 until she had it all. My home is a loving memory to grandparents and parents and children and grandchildren with a toy room dating back to the 1930s. Memory rooms like yours 😉
If I could like this video as many times as I watched it, it would have received a thousand likes just from me. This house along with Kate's velvety soothing voice makes me so nostalgic...not because I had a similar life or house but because it is everything I ever wanted my life to be. I have always believed a home plays a crucial role in shaping one's character. This video is a perfect testimony of this belief. Someday I wish to visit this house and I hope I get a chance to feel every emotion Kate expressed about the 'sound of the wind' and 'smell of the coffee'.
This is a home, not just a house. It's easy to see that Mr. & Mrs. MacMurray had their priorities in the right place. They made a home for themselves and their children. It will never fade away, it will never be forgotten by his children and now we've been allowed to see a moment frozen in time . You can't buy a home, you make a home and they did. So beautiful!
I’ve watched this a couple of times over the years... and enjoy it every time! Love the color in this house, makes it inviting, comfortable, and cozy.....so much more like a farmhouse, vs the all white “farmhouse” decor now
I grew up watching your dad on television and in Disney movies. He was great! He could do funny, straight, anger, and all of the emotions. I loved watching My Three Sons. I wish, every time I turn on the television to junk, that they made shows again like in the 50s and 60s. I still hunt for the channels that run the old shows. They just don't make them like that anymore. Maybe they should to get back to honor, family, and decency. Thanks for sharing the house. I could picture him in every bit of it, smoking his pipe and just enjoying life.
Heaven on earth ......... A beautiful peaceful life surrounded by nature . Reminds me of when my Mom and Dad were alive , our home was so cozy and lived in .When my mom made you a cup of coffee , in those days Folger's was her coffee it tasted like gourmet . Being the youngest of nine kids I miss our home life back then .
What an absolute treasure!! It's wonderful that the family still owns the property, but that big beautiful old house needs to be filled with babies and laughter. The next generation should be raising their family there. Truly a lovely homey place to live.
Such a peaceful and soft spoken lady. I loved Fred as a child. This has piqued my interest in learning more about him, his family and this lovely home.
This is just a delightful video. The MacMurray Estate wines are delightful, especially the deep red Cabernets. I lived in Sonoma County from 2008-2013 and have great memories. 🍇🍷🍷🍷🍷🍇
What a gorgeous, welcoming home and property! I love everything about it, but the kitchen is my favorite room. Her voice is so soothing. I love her laugh and the wonderful stories she told. Such lovely memories. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
What a wonderful video. I would love an old house like that, with the old appliances, with the country feel. She talks so very lovingly about her parents. Didn’t see many shows that her mom was in, but I LOVE movies of Fred MacMurray’s era. He was all class. He had more class in his pinkie than most current H’wood “celebrities” have in their entire bodies.
Every word she spoke I could have spoken myself about a little cottage my family rented for the entire Summers on Green Lake WI. She described so my senses that developed memories. The smell of coffee, the sounds of the heater and the creaky stairs, the feeling of the heat and breezes. Everyone should have a place in their heart that the senses take them back to.
so beautiful and your hair is as well. I hope you keep this in your family. Your Dad touched many heart. He did mine. My Three Sons as well as many others were too. Thanks for sharing.
I remember going to the property when I was a child. Mr. MacMurray let our 4H club bring our horses and have a trial ride on his ranch. Such a generous man.
What a wonderful house and what wonderful memories. I loved Fred MacMurry. Loved his movies when I was a kid and never missed My Three Sons! Thank you for this glimpse into his private life.
I love this house. It is beautiful to see a house that is not made over. The kitchen and rooms are charming. Love her quote on “you don’t get rid of your friends, especially when they are doing what you ask of them”. I feel the same! ❤️❤️
God I wonder how these people do it. Remembering their beautiful memories with people who have passed away without sheding any tears. I cried when I tell story about my mother, even she's just 5 hours away and I'm still in college 😂 That's the perk of growing up in close knitted, loving family I supposse.
Lovely house..Fred McMurry was a brilliant actor and in one of my all time favourite films..double indemnity..a classic, among classics..film noir with Barbara Stanwyck.
studio7 One of my favorite movies was the Egg and I, with Fred and Claudette Corbett. City slickers bought a run down farm. It was so funny! Ma and Pa Kettle were the their neighbors and of course, Pa took advantage of him!
For awhile, Fred was highest paid actor in Hollywood and the 4th richest person in America. By all accounts I've read, he was a great man. His first wife died of cancer. He was with June for 37 years, untill he passed. I gew up watching him in Diney flicks and on My 3 Sons.
I love this video and I'm so glad that she kept the ranch. It's obviously so much more than the sum of its' parts, with those beautiful memories. Well Done.
I loved this! Fred MacMurray was a favourite actor of mine as a kid, still now I watch his films with great affection. This was a personal insight of a great actor, great man and...clearly a great family man 👏👏👏👏👏😊😊😊🇺🇸 My sincere thanks for sharing 😊😊😊😊
What a treasure. I wish my hard working parents could have lived in such a sweet situation for raising us. For those of us growing up in this era it certainly represents a piece of those better times. Thank you for sharing.
Simple, yet still so majestic. How beautiful to know that a house is not a home , but only when there is Love and the memories of times sharing Love. America loved Mr MacMurray. Thank you for sharing your memories of the Love you had for your Father- America’s Dad !
There's a warmth about her that says a lot about the MacMurray family and her upbringing. This is not just a house. This is a beautiful home that has been filled with loving people..
How beautiful. It's just as it should be. I hope it remains in your family for generations to come. It reminds me of Will Rogers' beautiful Pacific Palisades home and land - which was donated to the California state parks and is used as a State Historical Park.
What an endearing recollection of her family life. I’m amazed the house has remained the same ... a welcome sigh of relief. The memories have and will remain intact - so refreshing and special. Thank you for sharing.
At 70 years old, I watched many of Fred. MacMurray's movies through out the years of my life. And, thanks to TCM, I am able to keep watching then. What a peaceful and beautiful place for such a man. I'm glad he and his family had this place to live in and enjoy. JZ
What a blessing to live in a home you grew up in & that is so unchanged. Too many homes are regarded as investments to be altered & improved then cast aside for profit. Lucky house & lucky family to have found each other.
It is a BEAUTIFUL ESTATE....that Mr. Mac Murray used such care, thought to keeping it original.....Sometimes people destroy so much love and history of it's past.

There are houses, and there are homes. This is a home.
This was fabulous, thank you for sharing a wonderful story that brightened my day. Cherishing someone who actually cared about his family.
Brought back memories I used to see him shopping at Safeway in Guerneville
You don't have a house...it's a home. Your appreciation and gratitude is beautiful !

Jim, you're a wonderful, sweet man! Thanks for sharing your memories! Blessings, and stay safe. 🌝
terrific. I'm in NYC...aside from musicians at concerts, I've never pestered celebrities for autographs or photos.
What a beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing!! (I have a feeling that's not your only good story, either!)
That's a great story Jim. Lucky you!

She should totally be an audiobook narrator, she has a soothing, velvety, characteristic voice
What a beautiful place. I’m glad they never “upgraded” it. It’s perfect the way it is.
WE need more stories like this in this day and time.
What a classy lady. A true credit to her Mom and Dad.
Very well put. Her parents would be proud of her.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and home with us. U felt your dad was the real deal. And classy .as yourself ❤️👍t. I truly miss these kind of down home modest men !!! Such a lovely tribute to her parents and a lovely home full of memories.
What a lovely lady. They were so right not to change the decor. It's a beautiful home. It's really sad that the people we love can't live forever.
I feel the same
Maybe we will live forever in heaven
They do live forever, and so will you. It's but a moment in time that we have those separations, then unite for the rest of Eternity. Think of it this way, they are now on the best vacation you could ever describe. Comfortable, happy, not having to worry about daily needs. Be happy for them, and you'll be there eventually.
dragons live forever.
KT - They do in Heaven!!!!
Her voice is so calming 😇

Here's one time I can say "Thanks for sharing" from the bottom of my heart. Fred MacMurray: Icon of the silver screen is an understatement.
This is one video you hate to see end. Charming in every sense.
Your father was an American treasure. Had forgotten he married June Haver, actress. Sure that I read it when it cae out in Photoplay mag. I think they can be proud of rearing a wonderful daughter.
Thank you, Kate MacMurray for a very personal tour of your treasured family home.
I grew up in a little town on the central coast of California and we had two TV channels. Late night TV programming was re-runs of My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, I Love Lucy, and Hazel. My mom worked late at a restaurant, so I would watch TV and wait for her to come home.

You spoke my Sentiments so well. Exactly as I Imagined.
Ms MacMurray is a fantastic story teller. I imagine myself sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, on a warm summer night listening to "Fred's daughter" so eloquently tell of days gone by on the MacMurray Ranch.😊
This was very special. Not many family homes remain in families, a safe place to return and share through the generations.
Mr. MacMurray was a simple man, obviously. That house exemplifies him perfectly. BTW, what an excellent place to grow up. ❤️
What a BEAUTIFUL Home and 'Vineyard'!!!! How WONDERFUL to have grown up here!!!!
Exactly what I needed today. House bound due COVID-19. So peaceful and timeless. Peace and love.

What a lovely way to tell the family story against a stunning backdrop. Well done.
What an amazing estate.
How fortunate to be able to grow up there.
Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your father.
I admired him.
Two major movie stars managed to make a homey feel good house into a home for their children. Hats off to Fred MacMurray and June Haver!

Enchanting story from a home with so much character and breathtaking vistas
His supporting role in “Cane mutiny court Marshal “ staring Humphrey Bogard was outstanding

I feel all the beautiful memories in this home..... really lovely
As a fan I still miss Fred McMurray, I can only imagine how much his daughter does!
If I had this home I would not change a single thing about it.

Funny you say that because Fred McMurray was from Wisconsin.
Greg Appelgren I teach in Green Lake Wi!
Kate, I'm so glad you kept your childhood home. It's so cozy and warm.
so beautiful and your hair is as well. I hope you keep this in your family. Your Dad touched many heart. He did mine. My Three Sons as well as many others were too. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful family and Beautiful home!!!

He always seemed like a "neat" guy, now we know, he was.
What a profound way to honor and remember her wonderful father.
Another great role of his was in the Caine Mutiny.
I beautiful home. He was blessed to be working at a time when one could buy land and a second home in CA. Good for you. Thanks for sharing.
For awhile, Fred was highest paid actor in Hollywood and the 4th richest person in America. By all accounts I've read, he was a great man. His first wife died of cancer. He was with June for 37 years, untill he passed. I gew up watching him in Diney flicks and on My 3 Sons.
Thank you for the beautiful story of living there with your dad. I really respect him as a wonderful actor, father, and human being.
Enjoyable. Thanks for this ! It's nice to see what was important to Fred MacMurray … Home & Family
You have a very beautiful home. Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful home and ranch, thank you for sharing it. I loved your father's movies.
What a beautiful home and tribute.
I love this video and I'm so glad that she kept the ranch. It's obviously so much more than the sum of its' parts, with those beautiful memories.
Well Done.
Thank you! Beautiful... I felt as though I were there with you, and enjoyed every single moment! Fred MacMurray was always my favorite dad. :)
What a beautiful story.
I teared up watching this. How blessed to have such a beautiful home attached to beautiful memories. I don't think I would every leave.
She's not only well spoken, but she has the most soothing voice ever. I could listen to her talk all day, well, maybe not all day, but most of it. 😄😃
JZ
Those sound like such sweet memories. The place is beautiful.
What a blessing to live in a home you grew up in & that is so unchanged. Too many homes are regarded as investments to be altered & improved then cast aside for profit. Lucky house & lucky family to have found each other.
Wow! What a great story. THAT is how memories should be told.
I loved watching Fred McMurray on the TV programs and movies! Wonderful actor and such a beautiful home!❤👍
Loved Fred MacMurray, what a great guy and what a beautiful ranch. Thank you for your memories !
What lovely memories. Thank you for sharing! So peaceful with the views, and the narrative. Just perfect for these troubled times right now.
I can remember him still after all these years watching MY THREE SON'S. LOVE IT!
I feel the exact same way about hearing the train.
How endearing, a wonderful time to grow up and shape character. True USA. I love Fred McMurray.
It is a BEAUTIFUL ESTATE....that Mr. Mac Murray used such care, thought to keeping it original.....Sometimes people destroy so much love and history of it's past.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful memories, takes me back to my childhood watching My Three Sons.
I loved Fred Mac Murrray, wholesome, down to earth and talented. No surprise his home was so lovely.
Beautiful story. I could listen to her family stories for hours.
