A very good talk on how a Ball Mill works. I was in West Africa in 1947 and worked on a Gold Mine and we used Ball Mills, and they were very efficient.
Such high quality videos on so few views. Sad how the algorithm works. Anyway thanks for your time. I produce video documenting the stuff I do so I know how long it takes just to edit and put a simple video up. With your models and graphics I am betting time invested goes up drastically.

The sand is being crushed by the lava stones that come out from demolished stone walls that have now created a ball mill in the shore break.and the reef has a groove in it where the rocks live. The Government the Corps of Engineers the University of Hawaii have heard what I have to say, but they do not want me to be the messenger. In 2013 they passed a bill in the Legislature that bans taking rocks out of the ocean. We are destroying our sand by law it will continue. I hope that this video will be seen by some legislators or somone who understands science.

I want to make a small (5 gallon or smaller) ball mill for grinding sulfur, charcoal, etc into VERY fine powder. I considered using a 5 gallon bucket but I don't know if the grinding action occurs between the balls or between the balls and the wall of the mill. If the latter, than perhaps a plastic bucket won't work. Tips? Input? Anything helps.
Would have liked to see more technical terms explained on the parts (Trunnion / Trommel / Braking / Inching Drive and its use). Otherwise, great video for a high level overview.
How are materials added to the ball mill? is it by a pipe to the inlet or is it by hand? What if you want to add multiple materials to the ball mill, e.g. making a slurry from mutliple materials?

PLEASE look up centripetal and centrifugal force. With the F is a non inertial reference and does not exist off paper. the trip one is what is in reality. That being said, other then that great video.
Hi Paul, Yeah, people always get upset about this. I always find it difficult to go with centrifugal, but there is no point mentioning other terms if people don't understand them. We have done other videos discussing the difference between centrifugal and centripetal, but the problem is engrained so deeply in engineering that it is difficult to change. If we tried to clarify this problem when talking about centrifugal pumps, centrifugal separators, centrifugal governors etc. there would be little time left for the actual video content! Jon

Too slow of a speed for centrifugal force to take effect. It is momentum that holds the ball against the side until it drops off the top.
Then it hammers against the ore at the bottom.
