Not gonna lie, to me, this story is the best one the studio has produced. I like the change of formula, with AD-9 being the focus point, while still containing similar topics to the Yakuza series.
The Japanese love child of LA noir and Yakuza, with phoenix wright as the families creepy uncle and deadly premonition as the estranged grandad that lives in the woods in a shack
I like how Greg Chun, English voice of Yagami for this game, later played Kaname Date for AI: The Somnium Files......another game where a detective investigated a serial killer who stole people's eyes
The 'non-cinematic cutscenes have been greatly improved from Yakuza 6 here. the lip movements are nicer, not to mention the intricacies with the hands. All we need now is slightly more varied facial expressions
Speaking of which, just had an interesting idea. Imagine a crossover with Phoenix Wright & the Judgment/Yakuza universe. Wright would somehow dimension hop into Kamuocho (not that he's a stranger to that sort of thing) and end up teaming up with the Genda Law office and Yagami PI by extension. Wright would be teaming up with the PI agency for investigations while taking on cases as Genda's temporary recruit, also possibly mentoring Shiono a bit. Cool thing is, Wright already has a physical portrayal. Problem is that actor had already retired.

so all of this drama over a Prototype Alzheimer's Drug? Pretty interesting... given the crazy and heartbreaking shit the disease can do to the inflicted and their families and friends. Imagine, having a person u cared about mentally die but still physically alive. He may look like your loved one, but he wont remember the memories u had together. FUCKING DEVASTATING I TELL U
It is also a very demanding cure to make but the requirements to test it would of course require a lot of human testing which is something not many will take up if the testing have a high risk of death.
And then it turns out that it was all for nothing in this case. The cure is literally toxic to humans, and human lives were being tossed away just because the creator didn't want to admit he had failed.
Is it just me or I prefer Saori's English VA than the Japanese VA? I love the low-husky-cool tone that the English VA gives off compared to Japanese VA. It just suits her personality and appearance perfectly.
I dunno you, but I like Saori better than Mafuyu. She might be all closed and serious, but in the end she seems fair and understanding. Really cute. Just... Don't mess with her desserts, yeah...?
yeah Mafuyu was basically just a damsel in distress / helpless, even though she's supposed to be this tough prosecutor, while Saori actively put herself in danger to help Yagami

Besides what's so bad about Watching the whole video? Yeah I'm not gonna experience the game by myself playing it, but still I can watch the story through here and like it and even understand ir better as I can go foward to Skip some point of the story that is not that important (like the divorce case) or go back to see again plot points that I missed or forgot. At the end I wanna watch the story of a Game here and decide more easily which points to see, and yeah it is 19 hours but heck I don't have to be sitting 19 hours a whole day watching it, it's more of day after day like a series of TV and that.

The English dub is excellent but to me it feels like the story and the characters lose a bit of their impact compared to the original Japanese voice acting. Still great job of putting it all together.

It'd make for a pretty interesting side story/gaiden if someone hired Yagami to investigate Kiryu's disappearance between the end of Yakuza 6 and end up being the reson the Watase got him to be his 'bodyguard' in Yakuza 7. Honestly, I feel like Yagami would shit himself looking into the Dragon of Dojima.
Personally, I think the story in this one is superior to Lost Judgement's, though I will give the story in Lost Judgement bonus points for FINALLY giving a Yakuza boy a happy ending. Even if it is DLC.
The taunting about his last defense case is REALLY excessive. "You're the reason that girl died" is the sort of placing blame statement that should only be coming from the grieving family in the immediate aftermath. 3 years later random people wouldn't be constantly shoving it in his face, especially since lawyers jobs are TO WIN. If he has a personal attack of conscience and quits lawyering that's fine, but business should have EXPLODED for genda law when it got out that the acquitted was guilty because that makes him a damn good lawyer regardless. It would not disgrace him like everyone keeps insisting.
