Amazing video, I've had a drink in that pub while waiting for a gig and I had no idea of the rich history! Now I'll always be able to tell people this cool fact whenever I visit! Also just a small little grammatical note: meat is hung, men are hanged.
@@jamesrogers5277 A good point! My guess would be either could fit. Hanged used in a sentence refers to the execution, or killing of a person. It could be argued that Cromwell's corpse was put on trial, found guilty and ordered to be hanged as a Judicial punishment. But, seeing as he was clearly already dead, no life was taken and therefore perhaps 'hung from a gallows' might fit. Food for thought! 🙂
Used to call in for a pint at that pub in the early 80's before we started night-shift. Back then, it was called The Railway and had nothing to do with Spence Broughton, apart from the fact it's on Broughton Lane! 🤷🏻
@@Plentisaki I considered a few names as my moniker including Hand of Doom, The Writ & Lord of this World but I decided on A National Acrobat. I'm not sure if it's my favourite track on the album as I love Spiral Architect as well. In fact the whole SBS album is brilliant as I'm sure you'd agree. Never understood why Technical Ecstasy & Never Say Die got all the hate that they did but hey-ho. Best regards
@@ANationalAcrobat-qj2dl A good choice in my opinion! 👍 I think Volume 4 is my favourite album, followed by Master of Reality. I was lucky enough to see Sabbath in 1978 on the Never Say Die tour. The support band was a little known band named.......Van Halen! What a gig! Regards my friend!
IT'S STILL A FEDERAL OFFENSE.... THE U.S. MAIL IS THE ONLY PUBLICALLY FUNDED GOV. BUSINESS. BECAUSE MAIL IS SO IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY IN THE BEGINNING OF AMERICA. TONS OF COOL INFO IN THAT VIDEO.......
It is easy to forget (why who knows?) that ‘obilette’ is a little-known and revolting sex toy, and that it’s the ‘oubliette’ (invented by Jean de Grenouille in 1343) that is the mini dungeon found in castles of that time.
Absolutely brilliant look at the forgotten history of my local area.
Fantastic viewing! So informative! These need to be shown in schools!
Imagine how many lives would be saved if drug dealers endured this type of justice.
or Pootin
I’ll tell you who else has been hanging for 36 years… your mum!
None

No repeat offenders back in those day's.
Condoning murder? Nice
and a lot of innocent people wrongly convicted and tortured to death
Factually incorrect as usual
Fantastic interesting video as always. Keep it up dude
Thankyou my friend. Appreciated!
Amazing video yet again
Thankyou for watching 👍
Excellent story, well told 👍 Putting on my pedantic hat for a moment, in execution terms, humans are 'hanged', meat is 'hung'. Cheers mate! 😊
Question: When Oliver Cromwell ‘s corpse was dug up after the Restoration, and was strung up at Tyburn in January 1661, was it hanged or hung?

Despite being spelt with a 'g' it is pronounced 'jibbet'
I agree, and I approve of your Black Sabbath name reference 🙂
@@Plentisaki Thank you! I've been a big fan of Black Sabbath since the 1970s!

Ronald Ryan, the last man hung in Australia, (1967) was hung for something he did not do.
Check out the obilette

Hey up mate interesting video always wondered about this when driving past over the years did have a pint there finally
It's pronounced jibbet not gib bet!!
Lost sympathy for Spence when he left his family, to go wasting money watching poor birds dying awfully.
Great video though!
It is pronounced wrong bbut good try
