So cute! My budgie had two babies. Unfortunately one of them, the oldest one, fell from their nest and the other birds killed him. My other baby is still thriving at 16 days old!
This video helped me so much! Thank you thank you! My hen wouldn't feed her newly hatched chick no matter what, she only fed the older chick for over 24 hours. Then I played this video for her over and over, and now she's feeding the chick no problem. The tiny chick might have given up and shut up but this video wouldn't. :P You literally saved my chick!
Budgies always feed their smallest baby first, unlike many other bird species who only tend to feed to oldest bird and leave the youngest one(s) to fend for themselves (and usually die from starvation). Budgies on the other hand care for all their youngsters. Some babies hatch 10 days later after the first born - the mother lays an egg every two days, up to 6 or sometimes even more, which results and a huge age and size gap between the babies. But for some reason she will always feed the youngest one first and only then feeds the rest of them.

Years ago, I had a female parakeet named Nancy, that laid an egg, and it hatched, and we named the baby Misty. A month later, Nancy died, and the dad, Bob, a male parakeet, was still alive. Then when I moved to New York, Misty was all grown up, but it escaped and flew away from my porch. I got really sad that I miss them so much. Please like in memory of my long lost birds.
My 2 parakeets escaped too then I got 2 more then another 2 then I had a flock but one died so now 3 I had to leave but I couldn’t take them so I gave em to my cousin but he gave em to his friend then I got another one and I still have him

Hey mama bird, I think some of the babies are a little too big/old to be sat on. ;) I remember when I was breeding my birds she had 10 eggs. She kept trying to sit on all of them even they where almost fully grown, it looked like a clown car situation almost lol. Lawdy Lawdy, whew it was work. All babies survived to adult, which was surprising because having that many things usually could happen, but they were all blessed. :-) I sold most of them but till this day I still have the original parents. They are officially great great grandparents now lol. Both parents are 14 years old and going strong whoo hooo! You have a great pair of parents right there :-)

How do you know if the mother is getting enough food and water? One of our parakeets laid eggs and I hear chirping like this. The mom isn't leaving her nest box. I had seen another bird, I assume the male, feeding her. But I haven't seen him do that a lot. I'm wondering how she is getting food and water. She seems too dedicated... maybe she is eating and drinking when I'm not watching... I know she laid eggs, but I haven't seen babies. The sound sure sounds like baby chirps, but it could be her...idk.
Thank you for your question. The female will make chirping noises as a call to her mate. She basically wants her mate to feed her. She will do this often, she might even stick out her head though the nest box and make those same noises just like babies to when they are able to walk around the nest box. When a female is laying she will spend a lot of time in her nest box (normal) and would only come out a few times if any during the day. Just keep a close eye on them but do not intervene unless necessary.
I noticed that the chicks that have hatched will kick the eggs that haven’t hatched out from under momma bird in an effort to to get as much warmth and attention as possible
an idea to help your budgies with that beak is that they are not giving the proper lighting so maybe just check on how much or how little light they are giving. Not trying to be a smart ass but it will help.
